Rumors have begun circulating that the leadership of the Massachusetts College Republicans are set to officially endorse John McCain this week.
It is not apparent at this time whether the group will be speaking for the entire leadership of the organization, the organization itself, or whether the endorsement merely reflects the individual preference of these members.
I will provide a link with the details as soon as an official announcement is made. Take this for what it’s worth for the time present.
Update: Looks like it’s just the members that signed on to the Straight Talk Express. Nothing too surprising here:
Massachusetts College Republican Leaders Endorses McCain for President
Boston, MA – Today state leaders from across Massachusetts including the Chairman of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans endorsed Arizona Senator John McCain as their candidate for the next President of the United States.
#quot;Conservative College Republicans in Massachusetts appreciate Senator McCain’s authenticity and straight talk and urge him to run for President,#quot; said Michael Miltenberger, Chairman of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans. #quot;We look forward to building a strong youth organization for him in Massachusetts and helping in neighboring states and across the country.#quot;
They released the following statement that represents their respective opinions and not necessarily the opinion of the organizations in which they belong.

Wow, that’d be interesting…and not good for Mitt!

Hmm. I’m a Massachussetts college Republican and I don’t know anything about this. Of course that might be because I don’t go to any of the meetings…

If this is true, it would be quite the coup for McCain. First, McCain gets Gov. Huntsman’s (Utah) endorsement and has locked up a great deal of support in Michigan. Looks like McCain is really striking at the heart of Romney’s “home” turf.

Yes but McCain is not going to win Mass (and McCain will place thrid behind Rudy there), or Utah.

Paul8148,
Re: Massachusetts, I find McCain coming in third place there to be a dubious assertion that isn’t borne out by the polls. It’s well known that McCain’s electoral strength is in New England and Giuliani’s is in the New York region. In the most recent polls, McCain beats Hillary in Mass, whereas both Romney and Giuliani both lose to her there.

[...] Is it me or are Massachusetts Republicans and conservatives not so fond of their governor? First, Mass Resistance hates him. Then, he loses his own College Republicans to McCain. Then he loses his own Senate Minority Leader. Now he loses his social conservatives: In order to preserve traditional values and actually win back ground in the ongoing fight for our culture, we need a leader who can articulate and fight for our values with compassion, optimism, and consistency. We know consistent leadership when we see it. For this Leading Massachusetts Social Conservatives Endorse Brownback. [...]
