Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says if he runs for president he won’t be a Republican who will “scare the living daylights” out of independents and moderate Democrats.
“I think I would appeal to true conservatives for whom conservatism doesn’t mean they’re angry at everybody,” Huckabee said in an interview with The Associated Press. “My brand of conservatism is not an angry, hostile brand. It’s one that says `conservative’ means we want to conserve the best of our culture, society, principles and values and pass them on.”
“I would be the kind of Republican who doesn’t scare the living daylights out of people who are in the center or slightly to the left,” he said.
Interesting campaign theme to run in the Republican primaries…

That comment annoys me on several levels.
First of all, if you want anger and hostility, check out the Daily Kos or Firelodgegate. Either Huckabee doesn’t know his own party, or he does and he’s knowingly pandering to the media and its stereotype of it, which was (as I understand it) one of the biggest gripes against McCain.
Furthermore, if all Huckabee can promise is that he “won’t scare the living daylights” out of Democrats and Independants, well, I’ll pass, thank you very much. I want a nominee who can actually APPEAL to Dems/ Independants which is why Rudy is my first choice and McCain is my second.

Not a very inspiring statement. Was Reagan angry? No. Is National Review angry? No. Are Alito, Roberts and company angry? No. The only person I can think of who he is referring to is Michael Savage. So, basically, this was a pointless statement. Huckabee needs to get his act together.

Perhaps you underestimate him? People who break the mold usually are. Bringing people is not achievable only by social liberals as you come close to intimating. Using personal values and appeal to bring people together was quite successfully achieved by Ronald Reagan and may be what Huckabee will do?

What a disaster. Huckabee’s not angry. He’s happy. Just like Brownback. They’re both happy conservatives. Unlike all the rest of conservatives. Yippee. Does he not realize how fantastically offensive and ridiculous his words are. Huckabee is quickly becoming a guy who, if he found himself in the general election, I could possibly see myself pulling the lever for Hillary.

Oh no, how ever can we live with no slander ads from 527’s?

“Huckabee Says He Won’t “Scare the living daylights” Out of Independents & Dems”
Quite Frankly, if he is the hard right conservative candidate which many evangelicals are hoping for, he will scare the living daylights out of independents & Dems.
