At this point in time, what for? Romney is at under 10% in the polls, while Rudy is over 40%. I think this is more wishful thinking on the part of Romney peeps.
I assume that if you were in the third grade you would not recall this, but just incase: Reagan was thought to be best to stay away from debates as much as possible. Did that affect his legend as one of the best presidents we ever had? I don’t think so..
I’d love to see Romney in any debate frankly. Romney is a guy who can think quick on his feet, innovate, and communicate extremely well.
I can understand why Rudy would not engage anything given his numbers at the moment. However, if he continually disengages, he runs the risks of having his Republican opponents define him. If he can’t stand up to this against the his own party, how will he perform against the Democrat nominee?
Yes, Rudy would be a fool to debate Romney at this point. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose.
That being said, I would dearly love to see a real honest-to-goodness debate series between the two men. These are the two men that I like the best in the 2008 GOP race. They are the “competent leadership” candidates. To see them going head-to-head would allow the voters to see them side by side and determine which is the best.
The bottom line is Rudy would be ill-served by a debate series with Romney, but the voters would be well-served.
Romney is getting desperate! His numbers have fallen as of late, the sad thing about that is, they fell basically after he announced. Stick a fork in Romney! I have decided to throw my support behind Rudy. The reason is, I could not handle Clinton or Obama in the White House. If Rudy was on a ticket say a Giuliani/Brownback ticket, I would hop aboard.

KT,
You are right. Guiliani has everything to loose and nothing to gain debating a guy like Romney.

Another truly nutty idea from Hugh Hewitt.
You da boy, Hugh.

Absolutely, Jason - - thats why the frontrunner gets to dictate debate schedules.
hey…were you a Reagan fan?
February 28th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Yes, I remember telling all my friends in 3rd grade that Reagan was the guy to vote.
I had a short stint as a junior and senior where I was a democrat and voted for Feinstein in a primary when I was old enough to vote.

“The race for the GOP nomination has narrowed very quickly”
Hugh apparently thinks that McCain is out of it now, despite the fact that McCain is still polling much higher than Romney.

Giuliani’s not gonna win this thing if he can only speak to audiences of first responders.

KT,
Regan was also pro-life and didn’t marry his second cousin.

JASON,
Stick to the issue. We were talking about debates, not positions. Oh, and Regan is spelled Reagan.
February 28th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
Sorry about that- I will get it right for now on.
I didn’t know marrying your second cousin was a position. Although it will be the subject of much debate.

Which is more important?

GIULIANI/BROWNBACK???????

I can’t decide which is more unlikely…”sticking a fork in Romney”, or a “Giuliani/Brownback ticket”…hhmmmmmm…

I can decide! Romney at about 5 % nationally and flip flopping every other minute. murphy have you been drinking that MASS water.
