When I was a Hill Staffer, members of congress referred to Cofer Black as an embarassment.
In one hearing one, a (very conservative) Republican said to another, “I am more afraid of this guy’s incompetence than I am of the terrorists.”
Cofer Black was a disaster in government. Now he’s on a sinking ship.

Cofer Black’s Blackwater USA private security group has been an unmitigated disaster in Iraq and has been responsible for several massacres of Iraqis. I don’t think his endorsement reflects well on Romney at all.

Companies like Blackwater have flourished because of the numerous restrictions that are military is under, some of the imposed by the Prez, some by the courts and Congress, and some by political considerations. Folks who oppose Blackwater are people who want to treat our enemies like they’re choirboys and our soldiers like they’re thugs.

LJ,
While I like what Cofer did while he was DDO at CIA, I think you are absolutely right about his Black Water ties. The media rarely reports on the full extent of the private armies that are employed in Iraq and if they did, the American people would be outraged. While it looks good on the surface for Romney, I think you are absolutely right.

LJ, this guy serves 28 years in the CIA and you’re blaming him for Blackwater’s snafus because he’s been employed there less than 18 months? I just think you’re scared that McCain’s national security credentials aren’t indispensable and can be overcome with the right staff choices. Any way you look at it, recruiting the former head of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center is a plus.
