Campaign Manager Michael DuHaime announced several Georgia endorsements on a conference call this morning. Among them current Georgia Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (who will serve as State Chairman).
From the official release:
The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee today announced that Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives Glenn Richardson will serve as the campaign’s Georgia Chairman. The campaign also unveiled endorsements from a host of Georgia elected and former Republican party officials in the first round of announcements for the Mayor’s Georgia leadership team.
“Rudy has demonstrated the kind of strong leadership we need in the White House and has a record of proven results that Georgians respect. I look forward to promoting the Mayor’s positive vision for the country across the state,” Richardson said.
“I’m honored to have someone of Speaker Richardson’s stature leading our efforts in Georgia and proud of the team we’re assembling,” Mayor Giuliani said.
In 1996, Glenn Richardson became the first Republican from Paulding County elected to the Georgia House of Representatives since Reconstruction. After serving as House Floor Leader and House Majority Leader, Richardson became Speaker of the State House in 2005. Richardson is the first Republican to serve as Georgia House Speaker in over 130 years.
Richardson was named legislator of the year in 2003 by the Republican Party of Georgia and has received numerous awards for his involvement in civic organizations, including the 2003 American Cancer Society Capitol Dome Award. In 2006, Speaker Richardson became chairman of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) and the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC).

Not a bad looking bunch.
I spent two years living in Georgia, and I think it’s an uphill climb for Rudy, not just because of Thompson, who has a very impressive list of supporters in GA already, but more because of Newt.

This is a good looking bunch for Rudy. Looks like he and Romney both have strong teams in Georgia now (Mitt’s team includes Burkhalter as mentioned in the post below, as well as Congressmen Linder, Gingrey, and Price; Gov. Perdue’s Chief of Staff Eric Tanenblatt; former GA GOP party lawyer Oscar Persons; Chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners Sam Olens; and the wife of the departed US Senator Paul Coverdell, Nancy, who worked on Saxby Chambliss’ election campaign).

June 30, 1988
Two new national polls released yesterday showed Michael S. Dukakis’s lead over Vice President Bush narrowing to only a few percentage points.
A Gallup Poll of 1,210 registered voters, conducted June 24-26, have Mr. Dukakis leading, 46 percent to 41 percent. That was closer than the results of a Gallup Poll two weeks earlier, in which the Massachusetts Democrat enjoyed a lead of 52 percent to 38 percent.
An ABC News/Money Magazine Poll, conducted by telephone from June 22 through 26, found that among all adults, registered or not, Mr. Dukakis leads, 45 percent to 42 percent. In late May, Mr. Dukakis led by 52 percent to 41 percent among all adults in an ABC News/Washington Post Poll using the same methodology.

It is great that Rudy is getting some major endorements! Now only if he could share with the rest of us what he has shared with those leaders! Rudy, please tell us about how you plan to combat terrorists, and so on! Wink!
Maybe this polls for Florida has been posted already, but I do not see it yet (it’s fun getting everything on a mobile device - not!). If it has, my apologies…

Henry,
You’re entitled to your skepticism, but the Giuliani camp certainly has reason for optimism in Georgia.
Here are the results of the Strategic Vision poll from last month in the Peach State. In parentheses are the previous findings from the poll they conducted on February 24th.
Giuliani 23% (28%)
McCain 17% (21%)
F. Thompson 12% (N/A)
Gingrich 10% (14%)
Romney 5% (8%)

Some good news for Giuliani in Rhode Island. Republican National Committeeman Robert Manning has left the Romney camp to join Rudy’s Rhode Island leadership team, and will be responsible for building support throughout the state and establishing a strong grassroots organization.
Robert Manning is the Republican National Committeeman for Rhode Island, and a member of several corporate and not-for-profit boards. Manning is President of Gray’s Point Investments LLC, a private equity and real estate investment firm. Previously Manning was with Citibank/Citigroup for 26 years, retiring in 2001 as Managing Director and Head of Corporate Finance for Citigroup Japan.

Glenn Richardson has been positioning himself as a conservative in a tax and spending fight he had with the Gov. here in Georgia. Now he goes and endorses a RINO like Rudy. I guess Richardson isn’t the conservative he claims to be. No self-respecting conservative could ever support a liberal like Rudy.
