Field Report: Sam Brownback Opens Iowa Campaign Headquarters

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sen. Sam Brownback celebrated the grand opening of his Iowa campaign headquarters in West Des Moines on Friday, and Race 4 2008 was there.

I am always amazed by the youth and enthusiasm of the Brownbackers I have come across on the campaign trail. The median age of the hordes of kids there to support Sen. Brownback could be no greater than 20. And once again, my ears are still ringing from the fiery chants of, “We back Brownback! We back Brownback!”

For his part, Sen. Brownback gave one of the best pitches this ‘08 blogger has heard yet as to why he is the economic and social conservative that should unite the GOP in 2008 (it is partially presented here).

I have put together several posts for today in several different mediums including: audio of Sen. Brownback’s press availability following the presentation, two photo diaries, and video of former slave and abolitionist activist Francis Bok regarding why he supports Sen. Brownback. I have tried to give Race 4 2008’s readers as much of a “you were there” feel as possible. I hope you enjoy them!

P.S. See if you can spot R4′08 alum (and current Iowa Director of Youth Outreach and Communications Aide for Sen. Brownback) Billy Valentine in the photo diaries. Congratulations Billy! We miss you already.

Thanks for posting this! Senator Brownback has an impressive campaign operation and platform.

Not really. I like Brownback. I think he is a good guy, but I dont’ think he is presidential material. We need someone with more genious and administrative prowess. He just doesn’t have what it takes. We need an innovator and visionary. Could see Romney as that and even Thompson, but don’t really see it in others. I actually really like Coburn. That would be fun if he jumped in. Love the guy! He is much more impressive than Brownback.

I’m what people would call a conservative, mostly on the social side though, living in Massachusetts - the most liberal state in the US. As such, I back Brownback for president and I’ll tell you three reasons why: 1) Though I voted for Romney to become governor of MA and he now can be called pro-life, Brownback has always been, 2) Though Giuliani calls himself a Republican, he refuses to unite himself with the Republican Party regarding its pro-life position, and 3) Though McCain is a Republican, he’s not as passionate in defending human life as Brownback is. I like Brownback’s claim that he’s the only true conservative running in this race; this can be backed up by compairing his consistant track record the other republican candidates.

    DEAR JON,

I am sorry but how does brownback not being “presidential” material have anything to do with how impressive his campaign operation is? Or his platform for that matter. I mean honestly you pretty much just said that Reagan’s campaign operation and platform were not presidential material. Thompson? Go look up what corker said about Fred Thompson. Matter of fact why don’t you go look up what his campaign really consists of. Maybe you should ask how many phone calls they made yesterday. Live phone calls, not just recorded messages.
