I Wish Every Presidential Candidate’s Advisor Had A Blog
Giuliani, by hiring Martin Kramer as one of his new foreign policy advisors, might be sending signals on where he differs with Bush on foreign policy, and in particular promoting democracy.
Missing McCain
His campaign operation is in meltdown, his poll numbers are anemic, no one thinks he can win. But is the GOP lost without him? By John Heilemann
Terror Threat Against U.S. Said Serious National Intelligence Estimate: “al-Qaida will probably seek to leverage the contacts and capabilities of al-Qaida in Iraq, its most visible and capable affiliate and the only one known to have expressed a desire to attack the homeland.”
I’m suppressed how much the Democrats have criticized Mitt Romney about his Ocean ad. I thought that was something we could all agree on, but apparently Democrats want our children wading through a cesspool.
Here was my response to Romney’s wisdom (or lack thereof) in creating this commercial:
In this TV ad, Mitt is preaching to his choir. Not only is he not expanding his base with this spot, but he’s turning off libertarian-minded Republicans, and alienating socially liberal/fiscally conservative GOPers; not to mention the many moderates and Independents Romney would need to rely upon to win a general election.
Instead of positioning himself as a viable top-tier candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, by myopically competing with Sam Brownback and Mike Huckabee for the social conservative vote in Ames, Iowa, is playing down to the level of those second-tier candidates and inadvertently narrowing his own window of opportunity.
I personally have not seen the ad, because my computer speakers dont work. My initial reaction was hey, fine and cool if Romney wants to show leadership on the sad, sad state of arrairs of our youth today. I just think he would be better qualified to do so in the private sector
May I please say something about Tom Tancredo? All along, ever since last year when this whole thing started to heat up, I personally saw him as a hero. If the country wasn’t so screwed up and divided right now, he could be the best president in a century. It happens that the country needs someone with much broader appeal (like Rudy) to get elected and accomplish conservative goals.
He’s trying to make it a censorship issue, even though Romney hasn’t suggested any censorship. Also, anyone who is against protecting kids from filth isn’t a Republican.
Emtee, government intruding on the right of children to view porn, of course.
Aron, it boggles my mind to think that the statements in Romney’s ad are alienating. Last I checked, the general electorate was not clammoring for more porn and violence to be viewable by children. Socially-liberal fiscally-conservative GOPers do not vote based on their social beliefs…otherwise they would be Democrats. They vote on fiscal matters, on which Romney is the stronger candidate.
Here it is-“Senator Vitter will help lead the campaign’s efforts to build support in the South and in the United States Senate.â€
Senator Vitter is going to be Giuliani’s guy to build support for Giuliani in the South and the Senate. Those are some important responsibilities, I hope he’s up to it.
By the way, I’m getting really worried about the people Rudy keeps deciding to surround himself with:
1. Bernard Kerik – Ethics violations, an affair, misuse of police personnel and property for personal benefit, suspected organized crime ties, and possible sexual harrasment
2. Robert Asher – Convicted in a famous public corruption case
3. Thomas Ravenel – Charged with the distribution of cocaine
And most recently,
4. David Vitter – Prostitution scandal
KT, true, but Kerik for example was very close to Guiliani, having served him as a driver, campaign security adviser, corrections chief, police commissioner and eventual, business partner in Giuliani-Kerik LLC with a relationship that lasted more than 15 years. After all that time, can you honestly say Guiliani just “unintentionally” misjudged his character? That’s quite a misjudgement!
Emtee, yes I can honestly say that Kerik was the sneakiest of snakes and I do not believe that Giuliani would have kept him on if he were aware of it. I just dont think Rudy should be judged that harshly because of it, but thats my opinion.
By the way, I don’t think this reflects on Giuliani, I just think it hurts his efforts because one of his important supporters has lost a lot of credibility.
Aron (#4) I think you missed the point. Mitt is trying to shore up the social conservative vote before Thompson comes in and pinches them. Smart move in my book.

If you go to the Ocean thread bjalder26 you’ll see that there are Republicans that also think this type of government intrusion is wrong.

What type of government intrusion are you talking about exactly?

No news on Giuliani’s Southern Regional Chair? I could have sworn that I heard something about David Vitter recently. Oh well.
