Eric Dondero at Mainstream Libertarian has an interesting article about a Libertarian site encouraging people to vote for Romney.
In 1994, Senatorial candidate Mitt Romney was endorsed and heavily backed by the libertarian-leaning Republican Liberty Caucus in his race against Ted Kennedy. More recently Romney made a very libertarian statement to the AP on pornography:
“I am not pursuing an effort to try and stop adults from being able to acquire or see things I find objectionable; that’s their right. But I do vehemently oppose practices or business procedures that will allow kids to be exposed to obscenity.”
Now at least one Web Blog is urging Libertarians to consider supporting Romney. The site Independent Libertarian Spirit is appropriately Christian libertarian.
For certain Mitt has one thing libertarian Ron Paul does not have: A chance.

Correct. No even close, and certainly not on social issues - like pornography, abortion, marriage, sexuality and so on.

No one ever said he was libertarian. Just that there are libertarians who see him as a quality candidate. Please don’t infer more than what was said.

Mainstream Libertarian? Can that be the oxymoron of the day?

Dondero even isn’t a libertarian. He seems to think that libertarianism is socially-liberal neoconservatism.

If you think Mitt Romney has a chance against any democrat, you are sadly mistaken.
You can keep denying it all you want, but Ron Paul is the only guy who can beat them, period. That’s all there is to it.

Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha.
And that’s all I have to say about that.

Jason, looks like none of the commenters here are oriented toward families like Dondero. At least we have some libertarians out there that are not trying to apply one standard to every single American, regardless of their age. And LTG and the like, yes, kids need their own boundaries - the psychological and sociological studies have confirmed it!

You have got to be kidding me. To call him a libertarian is like Thomas Jefferson calling Hillary Clinton a kindred spirit. This is the man who increased the level of state government in healthcare in Massachusetts. He planted the seeds for universal healthcare. Ask Vets or folks on the Indian Reservations how good universal healthcare works.
Instead of standing strong to try to reduce state spending he simply increased fees (simply another word for taxes). Personally as a loan officer the increase in the recording fees for mortgages cost me thousands of dollars.

Bob, yes you are kidding yourself. Go to a conservative thinking tank Hertiage Foundation for their analysis on Mitt’s healthcare. You are getting it all messed up - for one, the medicare/medicaid money now is going toward the private insurances rather than hospitals! And for two, Mitt does not believe in nation-wide program, but that he will work with each state for them to come up with THEIR OWN programs! Those are just the start. There’s more!

And Bob, good about increased fees! I do not want to the government to use my money for services I do not use. For example, I don’t fish or hunt so why should I pay for the wilflife and fish department? It is like a free market - you have to sell to keep yourself floating. So that department should be supported by the people who use its service. If there is not enough money coming in then it is doing something wrong. No more shrinking from its accountability to public! All departments should be the same, being supported entirely by fees!

um… i dunno
I guess keep working at turning libertarianism into something it 100% isn’t, and i’ll keep doing what i’m doing.
