Poll Alert: Rasmussen Daily Tracker 9/6/07

Here is today’s Rasmussen poll. It will be interesting to see if there is any movement in McCain or Thompson’s movement over the next week after McCain’s strong (according to almost all the media reports) debate performance and Thompson’s entry into the race.

GOP Daily Tracker 9/6

  • Rudy Giuliani 24%
  • Fred Thompson 22%
  • John McCain/Mitt Romney 14% (tie)
  • Mike Huckabee 4%

I have not doubt Thompson will get a bounce from his announcement but his numbers will gradually fall.

I considerably doubt that McCain will get a significant boost.

Isn’t this the first time for a while, though, that Romney and McCain have been tied?

It says more about Romney than McCain that he can only match, nationally, the man whose campaign imploded.

  3. Romney Blogger Says:

Many have waited for FDT to join the race for a long time. I wish him luck and we will see what he is made of.

  4. MetroRepublican Says:

TLG, Romney has been well ahead of McCain in Rasmussen. His avg is ahead of McCain.

Look at it from a momentum point of view. 8 months ago McCain was around 25% while Romney was at 5%. Clearly whatever Romney is doing is working for him.

  6. MWS Says:

Thompson’s ‘uncampaign’ lasted so long, I’m not so sure he will be getting much of a bounce. He has effectively been a candidate in the eyes of most people for at least a few months now. I suppose a lot will depend on the quantity and quality of media coverage he gets over the next couple weeks. I agree that he will probably slide when more conservatives figure out that he is not the demigod of their fevered fantasies.

I still don’t get it. What major accomplishment is this guy hanging his hat on? He seems like a run-of-the-mill generic Republican senator to me. There must be 30 other guys in the Senate with more or less the same positions and strength of resume. Are people so desparate to find the next Reagan that they figure the acting angle somehow guarantees another Gipper???

Yep. It’s sad. Plus somehow because Thompson is from the south, that gives him a leg up too. I don’t get that either.

  8. ThatLibertarianGuy Says:

Also, Thompson is a Deity and The Savior Of Conservatism. He is entitled to the nomination, Adam.

  9. MWS Says:

    Consider the parallels with Edwards….

Like Edwards, Thompson has served one full, undistiguised term in the Senate (plus a couple years).

Like Edwards, Thompson is a lawyer by trade.

Like Edwards, Thompson has zero executive experience in government or business.

    Both are pretty decent actors.

In a head-to-head matchup, I’m guessing most voters will go for the better hair.
