Trust on Issues
Democrats Have Edge on Two-of-Three Top Issues; Republicans are accorded preference on only one issue, National Security and the War on Terror.
Brownback endorsing Rudy makes great sense to me… he hates Romney… Fred has been nothing but a joke on the campaign trail… McCain is a great guy, but probably won’t be the nominee… Huck is the only other one to consider, and while even though he has had a good week… we haven’t heard a peep from him since the debate… and he still doesn’t have the money nor ground game to be taken seriously nationwide.
I’m unclear on why Ponnuru has been pushing the idea (and K-Lo has been endorsing Ponnuru) that McCain should state he’ll only seek one term. Rather than make him seem “less self-interested”, as Ramesh states, I think it just refocuses attention on McCain’s biggest vulnerability: his age. People aren’t likely to say, “I’ll vote for this guy, who isn’t the best candidate, simply because we’ll only be stuck with him for 4 years and not for 8.” That reasoning just doesn’t wash for me.
That said, Ramesh does a great job arguing why he thinks McCain would be strongest the general election candidate for the GOP.

Apparently, a poll to be released on Thursday shows Ron Paul at 7.4% in New Hampshire, ahead of Fred Thompson.

WHY are you including Hillary in the daily essential reads?

Joe,
Because it behooves all Republicans to know thy enemy. In politics, I adhere to the axiom…keep your friends close, your enemies closer.
