Huck is a very scary prospect for this country. He lays that out very well in the interview. I love the Biblical duty to fight global warming. I guess I missed that part.

I think that many of the Huck fans that have gravitated to him recently do it because he is the social candidate. That said, after Huck loses IA and does poorly in NH, I expect that many Huck fans will follow the only pro life candidate left – Romney. I really thought that as former governors, and romney leading GOP governors in the past, that Huck and Romney were friends. I wonder if Huck will back Mitt in mid january when Huck goes 0 for ? and Mitt is unbeaten.

Huck has to manage expectations in Iowa (as the Fix pointed out today). Getting ahead in the polls makes a Romney win (if he saturates with ads) mean something.

crack pipe…. I love it! I haven’t heard a crack pipe joke in a while! Thanks for the laugh! By the way, I don’t know if Romney or Huckabee will win Iowa. I just wanted to get a rise out of ya.
Romney vs Huckabee will be a great contest in Iowa. However there isn’t currently a clear #2 in NH. I think Huckabee will start to unite the anti-Mitt vote in Iowa, and so he could pull it off. However, until someone starts to unite the anti-Mitt vote in NH he looks very strong there…

Romney seems to have a lock in NH, but as we saw from Iowa a lot can change quickly. The biggest concern for rival campaigns must be the latest polls from SC. Romney just in front, with large undecideds who might be influenced by Mitt wins in Iowa & NH. If he picks up those three states, its over.
Matthew,
I agree with you. The more that I hear Huck talk the more socialist I think he is. He wants to rule our lives with government rather than let us live it for ourselves. Smoking ban, tell us what to eat, people are too rich. I especially have a hard time with his attitude for people who are successful. If he gets his way he would tax us into apathy. Other than the Pro-life stance does he have anything that even remotely resembles conservatism? I think not.
John (#28) I say anti-Mitt because usually contests settle down into a two person race. Witness Edwards slide in the Dem camp. The media & the public struggle to cope with a 3-way tie.
Therefore one can expect the contest in each state to move towards a two person race. If Giuliani is the frontrunner, then those opposed to him will unite behind whoever they view is most likely to defeat him. For Iowa & NH, the frontrunner is Mitt, therefore I say ‘anti-Mitt vote’.
Gosh, I think this is going to be VERY light on Huckabee, and very harsh on Rudy and Mitt. Just a bad feeling I have. The media wants Huck. They’re going to do their level best to get him.
Giuliani makes a good point about Illegals going to school, we have to be pragmatic and realistic. I sometimes worry that we anti-illegal immigration folks can be a little to emotional about the issue, thus clouding our judgement.
the illegal immigrant at the home of Romney is cheap worthless shot. It is a ridiculous argument. Wow, Mitt calls out Giuliani. Good job Mitt. Just like a real debate!
Why do people always ask if presidential candidates oppose “amnesty”. Everyone opposes “amnesty”? Some of them just happen to think anything short of allowing illegal immigrants to immediately become citizens isn’t amnesty.
John Galt, I’m talking about the rabid ones that don’t care about results. They just want people to scream a few canned lines. They don’t care about how complex the situation is.
Thompson’s getting in some big, big, yet subtle, jabs.
Stop talking about your support for amnesty McCain. We thought you’d ditched that? He should have just talked about “i got the message we need to enforce the border first”.
dont’ forget this quote from giuliani himself. obviously he ran a sanctuary city.
“If you come here and you work hard and you happen to be in an undocumented status, you’re one of the people who we want in this city. You’re somebody that we want to protect, and we want you to get out from under what is often a life of being like a fugitive, which is really unfair.”
The nationalist anti-immigrant right — Tancredo, anyone? — doesn’t care about how complex the situation is. At all.
I hate these people so much. They just want to boo people. They don’t care about understanding the law. Remember when Giuliani correctly stated the legality behind the immigration situation earlier this year? The nationalist right wanted to kill him!
i don’t think romney, or thomspon fit your description tlg. romney is very supportive of ‘legal immigration’ he says it all the time. he wants order.
ROMNEY IS LYING ABOUT GIULIANI’S RECORD. HE REPEATS A FEW STUPID, CLICHED ANTI-ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION LINES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS RECORD OR GIULIANI’S AND SIMPLIFIES THE ISSUE TO DEMAGOGUE IT. ROMNEY DOES NOT DESERVE MY RESPECT BECAUSE HE IS WILLING TO LIE IN ORDER TO GET ELECTED.
ANYONE TRYING TO SAY THAT RUDY “AIDED AND ABETTED” ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IS A DEMAGOGUE.
I think it is a double edges sword. He can stay out of the fray, but it makes him look like a 2nd tier candidate. He needs to include himself in the debate/
TLG…Rudy himself stated that NYC was a sanctuary city and as FDT said, then Rudy should be disciplined by the New York state bar because he has broken his legal ethics!!!
Realistically, the first thing we need to do with immigration is stop the flow. At that point we figure out what to do with those that are here. To deport them all is idiotic and unrealistic, there is a better way.
TLG, Your just mad that Giuliani just got his butt kicked. Nice Try!
This proves that everything I said above about people not caring about the complexity of the situation is true. You, like that idiotic audience and your Idiot Leader Mitt Romney, just want to boo people.
I am going to vote for Hillary Clinton if Mitt Romney gets the nomination.
Stop spitting on Reagan’s grave by worshiping your Idiot Leader, spoon-feeding you whatever line he thinks you’re going to like. Reagan was a man of principle.
Absolutely abysmal answer by Huckabee. Now that I’ve overcome my admiration for his rhetorical skills, I’m able to see how absolutely threadbare Huckabee’s answers are. We don’t punish children=Republicans hate children. As usual, Huck advances liberal propaganda.
I wish other candidates were given the chance to answer the Ron Paul conspiracy question. That might have been interesting. CFR, Trilateral Commission, New World Order, etc. Would have been fun.
McCain was visibly smirking while Ron Paul answered.
Romney can get away with saying anything politically because he’s never done anything in politics. He had a completely unremarkable term as Massachusetts governor.
Rudy IS having a pretty bad night… however, Thompson and Romney double teaming him is not doing
them any good. Thompson is as boring as ice cream in the sun, and Romney is quite possibly the biggest
phony I have had the misfortune of watching.
I don’t think Rudy is going to drop in the polls as a result of his performance, but (and I never thought it would
be said) we need to start seeing some of his trademark assertiveness come back into the fold.
Romney is getting too good of a run, and Rudy needs to show his natural toughness… especially when going
up against Romney, someone who will say and do anything to win the nomination. I know McCain is itching to
take Romney down…
Vetoing a million dollars for a bridge here and a million dollars for DNA testing on bears there is fine and dandy, but as long as there is no difference between the big-government foreign policy of the Democrats and the big-government foreign policy of the Republicans, we are doomed to live beneath our means, because we will always live beyond our means.
What’s interesting is that Rudy and Romney took McCain’s question and ran with it far better than McCain did. McCain should’ve owned that question on spending. He just seems to lack the energy to follow through.
Matt Miller: Agreed on Barrett, no question (indeed he hates all Republicans) and doubtless it’s a bit over the top, but some of it seems based on documents – let’s see what the rest of the press does with it. And it does raise questions.
Assuming the truth of your premises, aren’t conservatives SUPPOSED to “not do much”? Do no harm and all that? Is activist government a new Republican ideal?
oh please huck. don’t try and cover up your record. your solution is to not get rid of it and just raise taxes to fund it. it would be the compasionate thing to do.
Why waste time using pejoratives against Paul? His actual stance on the war is idiotic enough to attack — quite easily — without calling him stupid names.
Jeff,
THompson’s tax policy speaks for itself. His tax record speaks for itself. Norquists Tax Reform gave him a lifetime grade of “A”. His only pledge is to the American people. The last thing we need are more “No New Taxes”
tommy – i know that – just seemed that thompson missed a chance to say a bit more – if you say that you only pledge to the american people, maybe expound a bit on what that actually means
thompson is looking good tonight. words are cheap, action means something. romney’s record came down on the sid eof life. huck on the other hand raised taxes. words are cheap, look at the record.
Good for Mitt to say he was wrong. He needs to stay on that course. Good to point out his successes as a governor. That is exactly what Mitt needed to say.
Rudy on Mitt’s yard workers, Fred on the fact that Mitt used to be pro-choice… these things have been rehashed to death and they only help those who on the receiving end.
You are wrong. Romney is turning off most average Americans and is coming off as quite obnoxious. He is reinforcing his negatives of not being authentic, but being the spoiled rich guy who wants to dominate others. Negative attacks on others will not sell with public.
You guys have been great for those of us who can’t watch, between you and The Corner, I think I have a good feel…
Did the candidates make intro videos? It kind of sounds like it, but can’t tell.
Romney is winning this debate. The reason is that Huck and Rudy are doing a poor job at defending their past liberalism on certain issues, while Romney seems to be ready for those questions. If I were an undecided GOP voter who didn’t know much about the field and I were watching this debate, I would think that Rudy and Huck are more liberal than they actually are, that Fred and McCain are the real conservatives on stage but are both old and tired, and that Romney is both young and energetic and sufficiently conservative. Romney could take the nomination, which is troubling, as I don’t think he can win the requisite percentage of Independents to win the general election.
361, RUDY’S record being distorted? Paul gets smeared with the most ridiculous falsehoods and he just stands there respectfully and waits to correct the misunderstandings.

361, RUDY’S record being distorted? Paul gets smeared with the most ridiculous falsehoods and he just stands there respectfully and waits to correct the misunderstandings.
oh man, again. this is the worst night for giuliani. how many boos has he gotten. he is really off his game. i almost feel bad. never seen him like this.

Yep. Romney “gets” that no one is seriously going to scrutinize his record until it’s too late. He may pull this out because the average voter only cares about the rhetoric. How many average voters are really going to find out that Romney is a phony?
Again — I will not, under any circumstances, vote for Romney. I have too much dignity to sanction that fraud. I’d vote for Hillary twice before helping him get elected.
I love how mainstream Republicans become gung-ho about following the Constitution when it comes to the Second Amendment, then gloss over the first and fourth Amendments, and other portions they write off entirely as “anachronistic.”
This is so funny listening to them all say how they are gun guys. hopefully romney won’t be stupid on this and say he is a life long hunter. just say, not hunter, just
Remember, Rudy is supposed to be a strict constructionalist! He claims he’s against item line veto because he’s strict constructionalist. And he’s pretty strict when it comes to guns, too, just not with constitution!
Good answer from Paul. Just about the good answer he’s had. Has Huckabee really just disappeared into the background? Honestly, Hunter and Tancredo have had as much time.
HE TALKED ABOUT HIS RECORD. HE HAS A RECORD OF REDUCING CRIME. HE DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT. MITT ROMNEY HAS NO RECORD, SO HE SAID SOME FACETIOUS BULLS*#T ABOUT TWO-PARENT FAMILIES THAT HITS A NICE RHETORICAL SWEET SPOT BUT HAS NO SUBSTANCE AT ALL.
MAYBE IF YOUR CANDIDATE HAD A RECORD, HE COULD TALK ABOUT IT.
Rudy looks unwell, kind of sweaty, I have to say. Maybe he’s got something, and is slowed down – never seen him like this (it really does help Mitt a ton)…
Mitt Romney would sign a federal ban on abortion if it was overwhelmingly popular amongst Americans? What about what the CONSTITUTION says about where the power to decide laws about homicide exists?
I feel like half of this debate consists of Rudy and Huckabee trying to convince the audience that they aren’t closet liberals. Because I know the facts, I know that Rudy is most certainly NOT a liberal, but for those voters who are just tuning into the campaign, Rudy and Huck are both going to seem pretty liberal tonight.
jrcutler, its not romney, it is thanks to the moral majority mindset. religion an dpolitics have become too imbedded in my opinion. it is not good for religion to be that way.
All you need to do to see how far the Republican Party has strayed from the values of a Republic, just add “Why is…?” to each of the text captions in Mitt Romney’s mini-commercial.
Mitt getting into religion too far would cause choas in the debate. Mitt was smart to keep it simple and not explain things more fully. Stupid question anyways.
TLG- i’m not saying they’re the same, i just figured it was a trick question, and there is a lot of crossover between liberal and libertarian on social issues.
Romney’s slickness is our side’s version of Hillary’s shrillness. Hillary has basically learned to hide it, but catch her off guard and it all spills out. Same with Romney and his double-speak.
Mitt doesn’t need to bring up his religion. If you think so, then they all should. What does Paul worship, what does Tancredo? What are the tenets of Thompson’s faith? I have no idea – maybe they all need to explain it. Further, how come Clinton or Obama don’t ever get asked about their religion?
Lol! 508, that quote reminded me of that scene in the Simpsons where Homer goes: “Why are all bad things named after kids? Like KIDdie-porn? KID-napping?” and Bart replies, “Well, what about ADULTery?”
Actually Joe C and TLC, it was Rudy Giuliani who was endorsed three times by the Libs – who then hired the son of the boss of the Liberal Party in his administration. And yes, the Liberal Party really is super-liberal, founded by socialists.
Rudy really needs to stop referencing 9/11. It works reasonably well on a good night. It simply seems like a fall-back option now, given his poor performance.
Should we really be fighting “terrorism” when what we are actually facing is a transnational Muslim insurgency against foreign occupation and support for oppressive regimes?
Actually Joe C and TLC, it was Rudy Giuliani who was endorsed three times by the Libs – who then hired the son of the boss of the Liberal Party in his administration. And yes, the Liberal Party really is super-liberal, founded by socialists.
That was due to a fallout with Dinkins.
In case you’re forgetting, the Conservative Party was willing to back Rudy for a third term, had he decided to fight for an extension.
Either way — look at his record. Do you people care about words or actions?
This is rudy’s strong point. McCain only talks about Vietnam and Thanksgiving in Iraq.
By the way, don’t confuse Romney’s communication skills and intelligence for slickness. I know we are used to 7 years of Bush communication skills, but it should be a relief to hear someone who has a complete grasp of this issues and can actually verbalize them.
TLG – you got it wrong. The Liberal Party endorsed Rudy the time he LOST to Dinkins and then TWICE MORE. Why? Because Rudy was liberal, in some instances as much or more so than Dinkins. Just look it up. Hell, he endorsed Mario Cuomo (who DID have a falling out with Dinkins, by the way). There was no fall-out. There was a political deal. A super-liberal deal.
What, you mean kill hundreds of thousands of Cambodians?
No, you’re right, McCain. We didn’t do what Pol Pot did. He killed hundreds of thousands of Cambodians using ground forces. We did it with carpet bombs.
McCain is using the right rhetoric, but he is a bit off on this.
Just because McCain has been a POW, doesn’t make him the end all be all of what is appropriate and what is not.
I haven’t come to a conclusion on waterboarding, but I think McCain is misrepresenting Romney’s position. If it weren’t for McCain’s history, I would say Romney got the better of that question.
How is this a winning issue for McCain? Most people want us to do what it takes to squash terrorism. That said because of McCain’s service he carries alot of weight.
The Conservative Party came around on Rudy in the end. It doesn’t even matter what the reasons are, and I don’t feel like looking them up, because –
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS LOOK AT HIS RECORD. JUDGE HIM BY HIS RECORD. I KNOW THIS IS HARD FOR YOU INASMUCH AS YOUR CANDIDATE HAS NO RECORD, BUT BACK ON EARTH, SANE PEOPLE LIKE TO JUDGE CANDIDATES BASED ON WHAT THEY’VE DONE, NOT WHAT THEY SAY.
Cofer is a REALLY good adviser. Take some time to research him. The Blackwater crap is as bad as the Ollie North mess. Read around. If you’re listing and watching the drive-by’s you’re not getting the truth about Blackwater.
I like the respectful tone Romney gave McCain. I think that McCain doesn’t care what answer Romney gives, he is looking for a club to beat him with. Even if he has to create his own version of Romney’s answer
I haven’t come to a conclusion on waterboarding, but I think McCain is misrepresenting Romney’s position. If it weren’t for McCain’s history, I would say Romney got the better of that question.
Romney HAS no position on that issue. Or does he have every position?
579, What if the core issue is not whether the surge is working, but whether we have a moral or Constitutional authority to be there in the first place…?
I basically agree with McCain’s position on torture as long as an exception is made for the Jack Bauer scenarios where it’s either torture or 100,000 people die. Those situations will be few and far between.
i love ron paul, but he loses me every time when he says we brought muslim hate upon us. that is not the case. or even if it is, the bell cannot be unrung.
I agree with Romney’s position, in the sense that banning specific techniques, in a very public fashion, seems unnecessary and unwise. But, I likely lean towards McCain’s position on waterboarding in particular.
610 – no, i heard him first, just quick on the post. but still, who didnt see it coming? joe biden has it wrong, he doesnt answer each question with 9/11, he answers each question with ” i reduced crime and increased adoptions in new york”
TLG, I’ll give you Rudy was good for two months after 9/11 till he tried to stay in office illegally. I’ll give you that crime continued to go down in New York when he took over 9and has really plummeted since he left, under Bloomberg) – so ok, what has Giuliani really done?
Romney has a career of true accomplishment, and he never endorsed Mario Cuomo or cut deals with the Liberal Party.
Huckabee just proved again that he’s a tax and spend liberal who will pander to anyone (FairTax advocates, Illegal Immigrants, or Florida’s NASA workers).
Thanks Tancredo for pointing out that the Huckster is a fiscal liberal. It couldn’t have been made more clear.
A recent survey showed Huckabee had the lowest approval rating among the African American population. Yet he panders to another group. Reach out to everyone!!!!
He got 29% approval and 20% disapproval from a group just yesterday. All the other major candidates scored much higher than the Huckster.

sorry for hijack, but it’s hard to overstate the importance of this poll..
after rudy was only ONE point stronger in the yesterday’s general election poll in CA, this NY poll shows two things:
1. Rudy gets hammered NY. At this point it’s a joke for him to say he can win it.
2. McCain is equally as strong as Rudy in NY.
McCain’s the most electable folks.

November 28th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
Funny, the ‘anti-mitt’ vote. what does that mean, anti mormon? The only anti voting i have hear is anti giuliani vote becuase of his social positions.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
It begins!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Go Crist!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
Dunc, you’re a great man, but this is the last time I want to see you in a debate.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
John (#28) I say anti-Mitt because usually contests settle down into a two person race. Witness Edwards slide in the Dem camp. The media & the public struggle to cope with a 3-way tie.
Therefore one can expect the contest in each state to move towards a two person race. If Giuliani is the frontrunner, then those opposed to him will unite behind whoever they view is most likely to defeat him. For Iowa & NH, the frontrunner is Mitt, therefore I say ‘anti-Mitt vote’.
Make sense?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
It doesn’t sound like a very pro-Rudy crowd.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
Hey, my man Ron’s no longer a book-end!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
tancredo looks like a smurf
November 28th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
would’nt cnn love that. elbows being thrown at romney. of course, the true frontrunner
November 28th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
ha ha, tom cantrato!!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Did they just call Romney the front runner?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Trust me on this one, Crist isn’t gay.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Wow, they said that Mitt Romney is the one to beat. Surprising
November 28th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Why do I have to install a stupid plugin to watch the online video stream?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Gosh, I think this is going to be VERY light on Huckabee, and very harsh on Rudy and Mitt. Just a bad feeling I have. The media wants Huck. They’re going to do their level best to get him.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
more dave chapelle refferences in the comments please.
man – every time i see freddy t, i forget how tall the guy is.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
I agree Matthew.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
what’s your name ; ‘dick armey” hahahahah, no really , whats your name?
/family guy
November 28th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
This is stupid
November 28th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
1st chuck norris shot…haaayyyaa
November 28th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
also, any and all kevin spacey / mike huckabee jokes are encouraged
November 28th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
Did I just see Chuck Norris in the audience?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
I am very disappointed that the Ghost of Richard Nixon will not be included (although I give CNN props for at least including it in the intro…)
November 28th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
what is it with huck love from the msm?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
#50 hahahaha
November 28th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
I am pretty skeptical about this debate….what a lame song. I hate cheesy crap like this.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
too cheesy to bring in this song. I like it, but common man.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
pretty good line about McCain though
November 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
This is beyond stupid…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
THIS IS SO STUPID! waste of my time!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
dumb
November 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
youtubre debates where idiots ask questions is the dumbest idea ever
November 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
John Galt,
The media loves liberals. It’s pretty simple.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
McCain is loved by many…and hated by the rest. Spot on…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
that was a waste at time and a dig on Romney.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Hmm, this guy sounds like a Romney supporter….”sanctuary city”
November 28th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
i am calling bull crap on that giuliani! its was too!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Or he has a brain
November 28th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Holy cow! He’s denying sanctuary city?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
62. point well taken. the new ‘mavrick’
November 28th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
I think Rudy did awful here.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
rudy’s sanctuary city answer sucks. oh well, i dont mind the guy.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Great, great answer by Rudy about illegals.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Ya…he only went to court over it to keep it a sanctuary city
November 28th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Giuliani makes a good point about Illegals going to school, we have to be pragmatic and realistic. I sometimes worry that we anti-illegal immigration folks can be a little to emotional about the issue, thus clouding our judgement.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
okay, softball to romney. they must be planning on nailing him.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Was that Chuck Norris in the audience?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
BAM
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Are you kidding, jrcutler, joe c? Do you like rhetoric or answers? Mitt Romney’s serving up quite a bit of rhetoric right here.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
good line by mitt. you reported all criminals? well what about the ones who broke the law to come here? he just totally p0wned rudy.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
It starts early! Not sure how the attacking will work for Mitt, although he got an applause.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
giuliani is going to blow his hat off and show us how nasty he can be. just wait for it. personal attack coming.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Wow! Go Romney!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
That wasn’t Chuck Norris in the audience. That was an audience surrounding Chuck Norris.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Good one, DaveG
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
is rudy crying?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Rudy is fidgeting on stage and looks bisibly upset.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Rudy is doing awful.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Rudy’s sanctuary city. Mitt’s sanctuary mansion. LOL!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Oh, sheesh. What is this? This was a dumb fight to pick.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
the illegal immigrant at the home of Romney is cheap worthless shot. It is a ridiculous argument. Wow, Mitt calls out Giuliani. Good job Mitt. Just like a real debate!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
well i guess its going to be the rudy / mitt show
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Is that what you are suggesting!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
go get him romney!! hold his feet to the fire baby!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Romney is SOOOO New England WASP. And Rudy is SOOOO working-class kid from Brooklyn.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Ooh. Mitt got him. Rudy looked like a deer in the headlights.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Romney is kicking Rudy’s trash
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Why does Rudy look like a little boy being scolded by his dad in this tiff with Mitt?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
this is out of control and disgusting…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Mitt’s slamming Rudy on this one
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
I think Mitt just destroyed Giuliani on this issue..
Did he Giuliani just say “you better jump in” under his breath?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
romney is rocking the house!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Why would he pick this fight? This was dumb. Rudy’s first answer was fine; he could have gone after Mitt on something legitimate.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Wow, Youtube is having an effect on the debates. It’s turned into a flame war!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Rudy is praying for this to end now!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
finally, mitt take rudy on and wins.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
This year’s debates are gotcha questions only.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
WOW. Mitt is REALLY on tonight so far.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Rudy gets Boo’ed.
That was incredible.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
ha ha hilarious. giuliani is getting boooed~!~!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
I’m really, really starting to hate these immigration hawks. They’re rabid on the issue; they don’t care about results. They just want rhetoric.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Wow. Rudy got boo’d in Florida before Ron Paul. That’s not good.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
That is an easy question because Amnesty is defined differently be different people.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
doens’t giuliani pretend to be an immigration hawk?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Fred looks icy and evil tonight!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
FDT got a softball
November 28th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Why do people always ask if presidential candidates oppose “amnesty”. Everyone opposes “amnesty”? Some of them just happen to think anything short of allowing illegal immigrants to immediately become citizens isn’t amnesty.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Thompson.. spit it out. Uh, uh, uh.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
fred, uh, uh, uh, uh, head bob,…..uh, uh, uh….
November 28th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
YESSSSS!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
He looks like a dead man walking
November 28th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Mitt finally handed Rudy’s a$$ to him
November 28th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Fred slams rudy on keirik…ouch
November 28th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
John Galt, I’m talking about the rabid ones that don’t care about results. They just want people to scream a few canned lines. They don’t care about how complex the situation is.
Thompson’s getting in some big, big, yet subtle, jabs.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
ooo, Fred slams Rudy as well
November 28th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Rudy is getting hammered. RIGHT ON!!! Giuliani just got killed on that last tussle.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Rudy’s just repeating himself…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
mccain always sounds soo sad and tired. he probably is … and who can blame him?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
TLG,
I agree with you, but that’s true of nearly every issue group
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
What is with all the boo’ing? What a disrespectful audience.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
i don’t think romney, or thomspon fit your description tlg. romney is very supportive of ‘legal immigration’ he says it all the time. he wants order.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
McCain taking the high road. His soft way is a stark contrast and may pay off tonight for him.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Huck is still running stealth. 0 words.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
where’s tancredo? rudy needs a last nail on that coffin
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Mccain looks depressed
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
McCain is rising above the fray. He’s really trynig to soften his image.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Good job Mitt finally putting the BS lawn company joke to rest.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
What the hell was McCain’s point???
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
Rudy is going to fall from this debate. He’s still a pretty good candidate for president. Definately compitent
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
McCain is presidential. He might be wrong a lot, but it’s nice to have a cool head.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
Stop talking about your support for amnesty McCain. We thought you’d ditched that? He should have just talked about “i got the message we need to enforce the border first”.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
dont’ forget this quote from giuliani himself. obviously he ran a sanctuary city.
“If you come here and you work hard and you happen to be in an undocumented status, you’re one of the people who we want in this city. You’re somebody that we want to protect, and we want you to get out from under what is often a life of being like a fugitive, which is really unfair.”
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
they are not going to get through 40 videos, are they.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
“Time” is a meaningless word for the top four candidates in the polls.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
Mccain is oh so so boring…almost as boring as Fred Thompson. Poor Anderson Cooper. He can’t get control. He keeps saying time.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
Is McCain so old and deaf that he couldnt hear Anderson Cooper the 8 times….
November 28th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
I think TLG was talking about the YouTube guy who asked the question for the no-amnesty pledge, not so much the candidates
November 28th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Tancredo gets in before Huckabee. Surprising. Out Tancredo Tancredo.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
That’s a change to have McCain with the cool head.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
This so=called debate is disgusting and cheapens the Office of the Presidency. CNN should be ashamed of itself.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
I like Tom Cantrato!!!! LOL!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
The nationalist anti-immigrant right — Tancredo, anyone? — doesn’t care about how complex the situation is. At all.
I hate these people so much. They just want to boo people. They don’t care about understanding the law. Remember when Giuliani correctly stated the legality behind the immigration situation earlier this year? The nationalist right wanted to kill him!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Hilary Clinton should have posted a Youtube for the candidates.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Tancredo must not be a big fan of amnesty…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
tancredo is crazy. we should bring in those we need. there just needs to be order. he is too crazy on the issue.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
TLG, I actually agree with you mostly, wow!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Is Huck happy to fly under the radar?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
lol jrcutler, that would have been cleverer than she
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Amen Galt
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
hunter we love you, but you are wasting air time.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
anderson cooper is not cut out for this. you think he will take it personal if they talk about gay rights?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
What is Tancrado polling at? Why are they still in the game.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Yey! Has Dunc talked about building the border fence with his bare hands in every debate?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
i don’t think romney, or thomspon fit your description tlg. romney is very supportive of ‘legal immigration’ he says it all the time. he wants order.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Hunter has a point, he’s the only one who has partially fulfilled America’s wishes.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
zzzzzz i fell asleep. if he was just more charismatic, he would go far.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Erik,
I think it is a double edges sword. He can stay out of the fray, but it makes him look like a 2nd tier candidate. He needs to include himself in the debate/
November 28th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Listen to this crowd! They just want to yell or boo at people for repeating the lines that they like or dislike.
They don’t care about the records. They want the rhetoric. Things are looking good for Mitt, in that case!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Good question for Huck!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
yeah baby, taking it to huck. give it to him girl!!!!!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
I think that immigration is a wedge issue that could break strong for Republicans in 08.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Holy crap!
Rudy Ties to Terror Sheikh
http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0748,barrett,78478,6.html
Can it get any worse???
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Poor Huck, it’s out in the open now! Holy Cow!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
oh, how mean of him to be mean to that nice young girl. yeah, you didn’t pass it, because the legislature wasn’t crazy enough to do that.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
why is huck bragging a bout a bill he supported not passing?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
TLG…Rudy himself stated that NYC was a sanctuary city and as FDT said, then Rudy should be disciplined by the New York state bar because he has broken his legal ethics!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
TLG, Your just mad that Giuliani just got his butt kicked. Nice Try!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Huck isn’t sounding good…bad answer.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Realistically, the first thing we need to do with immigration is stop the flow. At that point we figure out what to do with those that are here. To deport them all is idiotic and unrealistic, there is a better way.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
am i alone here? i totally prefer fat huckabee.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Chris Lizza,
I read that story. I can’t quite judge the credibility, but I know Barrett DESPISES Rudy. He wrote a book about how much he despised him last year.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Huck seems to be talking slowly to take up the time.
Cooper can’t get the candidates to shut up.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Huck, I don’t think people are agreeing with you.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
hey huck— what about the children of soldiers? answer the question
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Ouch Huck!!! You’re digging yourself a hole by trying to justify special treatment of illegal immigrants!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Mitt needs to soften a bit on attacking the other candidates. It could backfire.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Duncan Hunter seems to be the only candidate who takes the threat of a strong and militarized China seriously.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
TLG, Your just mad that Giuliani just got his butt kicked. Nice Try!
This proves that everything I said above about people not caring about the complexity of the situation is true. You, like that idiotic audience and your Idiot Leader Mitt Romney, just want to boo people.
I am going to vote for Hillary Clinton if Mitt Romney gets the nomination.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Holy crap … nice point Mitt … “Mike, it’s not your money”
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Give it to him romney. but do it nicely. nice response.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Did you see the understated Reagan picture over her head on the wall?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Good for Mitt to show some fire in the belly…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
Romney is running away with this debate.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
ouch Mike.. not your money
November 28th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
okay, here we go. mr populist. mr compasionate conservative. well then huck i guess we should just give free everything to everybody.
huck is acting like mitts dad.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
Scold him, Huck! Scold him! Kick that phony’s ass!
I disagree with Huck, too, but I have such a frothing hatred for Romney right now…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
Huck is a bit off on immigration, but I still like him and think he would be a good president. Good line by huck at the end.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
“They didn’t get something better–they had to earn it.” = Non-sequitir
November 28th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Good rhetorical pushback from Mike
November 28th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Governor Romney is actually looking Reaganesque.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
Nice. Romney is destroying every other candidate. Is Fred up next?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
tlg, thats right, huck is a tool.
romney just gave it to mr. lets hand out tax dollars that were hard earned all over the place and then raise taxes.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
LOL PAUL BELIEVES THAT THERE’S GOING TO BE A NORTH AMERICAN UNION.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
i like ron paul, i feel bad his first quote has to be about conspiracy theories, the weakest part of the ron paul movement.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
Romney should have focused on the fact that citizens from other states should not get less than illegals
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
Romney won’t waste time on Fred unless Fred hits him first
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
At least Ron Paul is honest and says what he thinks.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
are you kidding swint. do you like big government and high taxes?
huck thinks the governmetn is there to do all thigns good. if he got the nod, i switch to libertarian party
November 28th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
Governor Romney is actually looking Reaganesque.
Stop spitting on Reagan’s grave by worshiping your Idiot Leader, spoon-feeding you whatever line he thinks you’re going to like. Reagan was a man of principle.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
Absolutely abysmal answer by Huckabee. Now that I’ve overcome my admiration for his rhetorical skills, I’m able to see how absolutely threadbare Huckabee’s answers are. We don’t punish children=Republicans hate children. As usual, Huck advances liberal propaganda.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
I need a fast-forward button on Paul. Anyone help me there?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
if huck gets nod, i’m going libertarian too. no doubt.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
i like ron paul
November 28th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
Jeesh… this is ridiculous
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Once again, Paul hits it on the nose.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
this is where romney comes in strongest. if anybody can control spending and debt, it is romney.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
#209…agreed! Hand out money to everyone because we feel bad for them.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
mccain is good on this too. giuliani left nyc 3 billion in debt. huck doesn’t have a problem becuase he just raises taxes to keep it balanced.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Wow, Huck is a really good orator. Mitt looked really really off.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
I actually think this is a pretty good debate. They’re asking questions conservatives care about; I’m stunned.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
mccain is good with the one liners. why?!?!?! why couldnt he have won in 2000
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
McCain’s waking up.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
McCain looks and sounds old.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
I wish other candidates were given the chance to answer the Ron Paul conspiracy question. That might have been interesting. CFR, Trilateral Commission, New World Order, etc. Would have been fun.
McCain was visibly smirking while Ron Paul answered.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
214 – he actually did handle the question well. kudos.
McCain – repeating the paternity line on the bears
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
does mccain not undersatnd that when you tax something you decrease it. the power to tax is the power to kill.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Dude, is it just me, but did no one but Romney show up with their A game? Even Giuliani is doing bad, and that guy can debate!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Romney can get away with saying anything politically because he’s never done anything in politics. He had a completely unremarkable term as Massachusetts governor.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
I know McCain is itching to
take Romney down…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
TLG,
you remark on Romney’s record all of the time. Nice contradiction.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
there we go. giuliani first to invoke reagan.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Very good answer by McCain.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Mitt knows policy like the back of his hand
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
TLG, you remark on Romney’s record all of the time. Nice contradiction.
I remark on his lack of record. All that he did was that health care plan, which I hate.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Vetoing a million dollars for a bridge here and a million dollars for DNA testing on bears there is fine and dandy, but as long as there is no difference between the big-government foreign policy of the Democrats and the big-government foreign policy of the Republicans, we are doomed to live beneath our means, because we will always live beyond our means.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
i love ron paul answers on spending… I will delete the IRS the CIA the FBI… hes great
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
I think Giuliani is shaken up.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Romney’s negativity is going to backfire bigtime.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
What’s interesting is that Rudy and Romney took McCain’s question and ran with it far better than McCain did. McCain should’ve owned that question on spending. He just seems to lack the energy to follow through.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Thompson gives credit to Mitt!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
Matt Miller: Agreed on Barrett, no question (indeed he hates all Republicans) and doubtless it’s a bit over the top, but some of it seems based on documents – let’s see what the rest of the press does with it. And it does raise questions.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
fred is great for taking this on.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
Mitt didn’t hit that response as well as he could have. Too bad.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
mitt and fred are BFFs now. nothing like a common huckabee enemy to bring them together
November 28th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
this should be fred’s shining moment. he seems to be blowing it.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
Good answer by Fred…he babbled a little bit though
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
This is the first time at one of these that Rudy can’t be 9/11 Rudy. He’s shaken.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
TLG,
Assuming the truth of your premises, aren’t conservatives SUPPOSED to “not do much”? Do no harm and all that? Is activist government a new Republican ideal?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
good point fred. he is the only one i believe. takes guts.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
jrcutler,
I agree, I think Rudy’s strong but in this debate he looks like a boxer who was hit with a hard uppercut and can’t recover.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
What’s the plan, Fred? What’s the plan? Uhhh, never mind, stop explaining the plan!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Good line by Paul about not being changed
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Paul, can’t you just shut up about foreign policy for ten seconds?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
yeah baby, cut the deparmtnet of education!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Not a bad answer by FT
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Common Paul, they are talking about their party. Is this your party, Paul?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Mostly great answer by Paul…until the end.
IRS always is a winner
November 28th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Paul citing Reagan – yeah – Reagan would be a real fan!! lol!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
the fair tax sucks completely.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
oh please huck. don’t try and cover up your record. your solution is to not get rid of it and just raise taxes to fund it. it would be the compasionate thing to do.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Huckabee is doing bad. I feel sorry for him.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
What does it say of those who call themselves conservatives when only one candidate is truly pro-limited government.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
lame uncle sam cartoon
November 28th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
I am against the Fair Tax. It sounds good, but I think it would hurt commerce in the US
November 28th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
fair tax is a horrible idea. it would kill the middle class.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
I lot of people respect McCain, this hurts Huckabee on the Fairtax.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Good straight answer by McCain.
I just fell in love with McCain!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
McCain just shot himself!!!! Off-topic!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
mccain said that he can fix something congress can’t fix – give me a break. Mr McCain is a lifetime congressman…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Go McCain!!! So true!!! Boom!!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
John Galt,
Yup, it’s an exceedingly silly idea.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
McCain going off the question…Paul the punching bag again. This crowd is disrespectful.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Wow, McCain boo’d then Cheered on the same issue.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
way off topic
November 28th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Oh wow…that was really ignorant of Mccain and showed a complete lack of knowledge of World War II.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Isolationism is the worst thing for the country. Paul is indeed an isolationist. He is wrong on that.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
which candidate do we think anderson is hot for?
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2007/04/anderson-coopers-gay-timeline.php
November 28th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
that little exchange may push paul up in nh and mccain down.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
norquist is a romney supporter
November 28th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
seriously, if these idiots would just give a short answer, people would like them more.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Swint, can you define isolationism, please?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
who invited tancreto to the debate?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Did Rudy just reverse himself on the pledge?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Swint, do you know what isolationism is?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Ok Thompson – pledge to the american people tonight – you missed your shot
November 28th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
second ronald reagan refrecne goes to hunter
November 28th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
ha ha, hilarious.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Hopefully McCain gets this before Paul.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Every time Anderson says “time” I take a shot not many more… eh so long.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
rommney is so on tonight.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
waht a stupid question
November 28th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Why waste time using pejoratives against Paul? His actual stance on the war is idiotic enough to attack — quite easily — without calling him stupid names.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
romney nailed it – new technologies…
November 28th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
And to think, Mitt almost didn’t participate.
As of now he is winning.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Romney is on fire
November 28th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Jeff,
THompson’s tax policy speaks for itself. His tax record speaks for itself. Norquists Tax Reform gave him a lifetime grade of “A”. His only pledge is to the American people. The last thing we need are more “No New Taxes”
November 28th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Ugh, look at these panderers.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
good mastery of facts and what it takes to compete
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
here it comes
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
ruh roh, Giuliani
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Mitt thrives on spontineity, that’s why he is winning.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Be careful denying that Rudy.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
This debate is depressing.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
giuliani seems like he is just trying to keep up.
OH NO, they didn’t, they brought up giulianigate!!th
where did you go then giuliani. threats like what, your spouse trackign you down while you were sleeping with your future third wife.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Rudy’s next show … Dancing with the Stars
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Fine answer for Rudy. Until this issue gets more fully fleshed out, I think it’ll suffice.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
studdering Rudy
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
tommy – i know that – just seemed that thompson missed a chance to say a bit more – if you say that you only pledge to the american people, maybe expound a bit on what that actually means
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
here comes the exploding shopping center by tancredo
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
need protection from his wife i guess. read the details, it is not a lie
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1107/7073.html
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
This debate is depressing.
And what a horrible Tancredo video. Why would they show a video of him stuttering?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
OK, so it looks like we are half way home.
1. Mitt
2. McCain
3. Thompson
4. Huck
5. Giuliani
Wow, Thompson is a one issue candidate.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
translation: “yeah, i was with that broad in the hamptons”
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
when will we see some for these canidates drop out?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Judging by how mad TLG is, Mitt must be doing very well.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Romney clapped for Tancrado, give the guy some credit, he’s a good guy.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
1 mitt
2 mitt
3 mitt
4 McCain
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
I mean Tancredo…my bad
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Tancredo- No amnesty for toys
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Since when are Republicans for trade barriers?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Swint, you are right, McCain is doing great, but Romney is the king tonight (so far)
November 28th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Tommy…HAHAHA good one
November 28th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
huck and giuliani are not doing well tonight.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Huckabee is being absolutely ignored, and hasn’t been particularly spot on during his few responses.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Hunter would be a great SecDef.
He is right about China. China is trouble.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
lol tommy – that should be tancredo’s new slogan
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
LMAO
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
are you freaking kidding me. what a cheap shot. he is not even going to get to respond to this attack.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Is Thompson vying for the VP spot on Rudy’s ticket?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Good one tommy!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
thompson attacking romney… interesting
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Wow….I’m disappointed in Fred.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
i must admit though it is good. the hit on huck made me feel better.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Wow Fred hits below the belt.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
thompson attacking huckabee… interesting… no attack on guilaini
November 28th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Thompson has really gone negative, hasn’t he. I guess it’s over for him.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
WTF what that????
November 28th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
thompson is looking good tonight. words are cheap, action means something. romney’s record came down on the sid eof life. huck on the other hand raised taxes. words are cheap, look at the record.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
I think Fred just maid a sentence without using the word uh.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
Wow, Thompson going negative. Interesting choice.
Hah, “what’s up with that?”
I actually like the spontaneity.
Good for Mitt to say he was wrong. He needs to stay on that course. Good to point out his successes as a governor. That is exactly what Mitt needed to say.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
GREAT answer, Romney
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Gyah, my internet feed keeps stuttering and and falling behind everyone else.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
no apologies for becoming pro-life – exactly!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Romney is doing awesome!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Perfectly respectable answer from Romney. Huck dodges the issue…awful.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
praise the lord huck!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Dude, I hope that everyone in America is watching this boxing match!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Why do candidates keep rehashing stale hits?
Rudy on Mitt’s yard workers, Fred on the fact that Mitt used to be pro-choice… these things have been rehashed to death and they only help those who on the receiving end.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Man Romney is on his game!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
great answer by mitt.
here we go again, mr compassionate. raising taxes is fine because it helps people.
nice job by anderson there letting them respond. he obcviusly had no idea. thompson wasted his ad with an attack.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Apparently there are more candidate attack ads to come…any predictions?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
By the way, I really enjoy the open thread like this. It is really interesting to read all of your perspectives.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Commercial break: time for another thread?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Swint: i agree. i love reading the comments on all these posts. you guys are all my friends, even though we’ll never meet.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
yes, ad break, can reload the feed.
Good answer by Mitt. He is doing quite a bit better than some other nights.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
this is kind of like mystery science theater 3000!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
So far, Mitt is handling this like Big Popi handles batting practice
November 28th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Swint,
You are wrong. Romney is turning off most average Americans and is coming off as quite obnoxious. He is reinforcing his negatives of not being authentic, but being the spoiled rich guy who wants to dominate others. Negative attacks on others will not sell with public.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
I agree, Romney is the clear stand-out tonight – his best performance ever, thinking on his feet, both tough and considered.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
You guys have been great for those of us who can’t watch, between you and The Corner, I think I have a good feel…
Did the candidates make intro videos? It kind of sounds like it, but can’t tell.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
#356 are you watching the same debate?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Jon Martin at politico has a post titled “The Ron Paul foil moment” in the debate, LOL.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Romney-Huckabee. Anyone else scared?
Anyway…this debate is putting me in a bad mood.
I’m still mad about Rudy’s record being distorted.
Oh, great, here comes guns. An issue that Rudy is actually bad on.
Great. Just great.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Why does McCain’s video have such a cursed Ring tape feel to it?
November 28th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Hunter…parenting that gun owner. Hah. Oh, God.
What is he doing? Why is he still here?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Lame start of an answer by Hunter. But his answer is right.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
They’ve all got negative ads out. That was pretty embarrassing, but don’t act like he’s the only one. BTW, I don’t approve of it.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
346… Rudy being negative? Romney DID hire illegals. Unless you have an issue with candidates telling the truth?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
November 28th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
361, RUDY’S record being distorted? Paul gets smeared with the most ridiculous falsehoods and he just stands there respectfully and waits to correct the misunderstandings.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
[...] also: You might want to read through and participate in the Race42008 debate discussion. At more than 350 comments so far, I suspect they will be starting a new one [...]
November 28th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Gosh…Rudy is getting bad luck here.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
361, RUDY’S record being distorted? Paul gets smeared with the most ridiculous falsehoods and he just stands there respectfully and waits to correct the misunderstandings.
No one cares about Paul.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Rudy is getting smeared. I wonder if this will burn down the firewall.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Kris,
He did NOT hire illegals any more than you did if a contractor working on your house used illegals
November 28th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Rudy is a broken record
November 28th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
The thing about Gun control is that what is appropriate in NYC is not in Des Moines. For NYC more restrictive gun laws are probably appropriate.
The crowd needs to show a little more respect.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
oh man, again. this is the worst night for giuliani. how many boos has he gotten. he is really off his game. i almost feel bad. never seen him like this.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
O.K., this aint going well for Rudy.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Oh snap! Rudy getting boo’d while stuttering over 2nd amendment!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Rudy looks like a Democrat who wandered on stage tonight….
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
When we get to 630 comments, Kavon asked me to close this thread and start a new one.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
incoherant answer – anyone following this?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Rudy is so off tonight, he’s usually so quick and precise on his feet.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
371, except for a huge plurality of our servicemen and 27% of “likely voters” in NH.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Kris, your are drinking the Kool Aid, grow up.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
tommy – your boy fred is having a solid night. dont sleep on thompson!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
fred is doing well tonight.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
630 is a nice round number
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
If I were an undecided GOP voter who didn’t know much about the field and I were watching this debate, I would think that Rudy and Huck are more liberal than they actually are, that Fred and McCain are the real conservatives on stage but are both old and tired, and that Romney is both young and energetic and sufficiently conservative. Romney could take the nomination, which is troubling, as I don’t think he can win the requisite percentage of Independents to win the general election.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Thanks Fred
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Swint,
The constitution is the constitution. It may not allow that.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Wow, Rudy looks like a midget next to Thompson. Not good placement for him.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Governor Romney may be laying claim to the title of Reagan’s heir apparent.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
TLG, stop talking. u sound foolish
November 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Yeah, Rudy is sounding really liberal here. Bad night thus far.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Romney should answer this question. He’s been a hunter all of his life. He hunts varmints.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Rudy needs to read his constitution, specifically the 2nd Amendment.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
I understand, but that is why we have the Supreme Court. Don’t worry, I am still pro gun rights.
What a stupid and terrible question. Get real. This is not even an issue.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Good question by Eric.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
I love how mainstream Republicans become gung-ho about following the Constitution when it comes to the Second Amendment, then gloss over the first and fourth Amendments, and other portions they write off entirely as “anachronistic.”
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
anderson foiled the trick question – good answer by thompson
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
TLG, LOL
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
TLG, stop talking. u sound foolish
Me, foolish? Aren’t you a Romney supporter? Talking to me about foolishness?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Kris, Romney hired a legimate company who happened to hire illegal immigrants! Get it in your head that Romney does not hire those illegal immigrants!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
“hunting quuaiil”!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
“Wow, Rudy looks like a midget next to Thompson. Not good placement for him.”
No, they didn’t! Now I am feeling sorry for him. Thanks for the visual.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Interesting point, Josiah.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
This is so funny listening to them all say how they are gun guys. hopefully romney won’t be stupid on this and say he is a life long hunter. just say, not hunter, just
romney, just keep your mouth shut on this.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
I think the GOP needs to address race more. A good question.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
Questioners are going soft on Romney about guns.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
A bit of hyperbole from those guys on this fine Wednesday evening.
Look at Romney’s #*)$ing idiotic answer. Just hit all of the right rhetorical notes, Mitt, and this nomination is yours.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
Is that Mario Cuomo out there in between Big Fred and Mighty Mitt?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
I can’t believe Romney came out unscathed on the Gun thing.
A good answer by Mitt on the Black community. Family and Dad’s are essential.
That IS the answer to the War on the inner city, stupid Anderson Cooper.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
shutup anderson
November 28th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Wonderful answer from Romney.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
he got off point. he needs to stay on topic.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
TLG, the Family issue is the key in the black community. Mitt was exactly right.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Remember, Rudy is supposed to be a strict constructionalist! He claims he’s against item line veto because he’s strict constructionalist. And he’s pretty strict when it comes to guns, too, just not with constitution!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Mitt is the man. He’s got it going. He’s blowing them all away.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Rudy seems depressed. I would be, too, seeing my record smeared and distorted.
I’m still mad about the immigration spat at the beginning of this debate.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
rudy giving a lesson on a mixed record. lmao!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
But, Rudy indisputably has a better record on crime.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
THe gun joke was really lame, but he rebounded somewhat on the inner city answer.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
Way to take the high road Mitt. He needed that to not look to hawkish. That stayed civil.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
TLG, the Family issue is the key in the black community. Mitt was exactly right.
SEE? YOU’RE THE KIND OF IDIOT VOTER MITT ROMNEY IS ATTRACTING.
DID YOU EVEN NOTICE THAT HE DIDN’T OFFER A SINGLE POLICY PROPOSAL IN WHAT HE SAID?
WHAT EXACTLY IS HE GOING TO DO TO PROMOTE SUCH FAMILIES?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
nice answer romney – not taking the bait
November 28th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
oooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuchhchc “I didn’t have a police commish”
November 28th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
TLG, it is ok, Mitt had a terrible debate a month or two ago. Rudy is having his tonight. He will bounce back.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Wow… Paul comes off really well on that
November 28th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Is that a liberty dollar pinned to Ron Paul’s lapel?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Bad night for Rudy.
Debate liveblog.
http://political-buzz.com/2007/11/28/fl-youtube-republican-debate-liveblog/
November 28th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Well, he will start by being faithful to his family.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
I have never seen Rudy so shaken and startled – he usually exudes confidence.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
huge liberal myth / lie: that republicans want to criminalize girls that get abortions. they don’t, its the doctors.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
The early attack knocked Rudy off his game.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
Well, he will start by being faithful to his family.
Are you completely brain-dead?!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
Good answer from Paul. Just about the good answer he’s had. Has Huckabee really just disappeared into the background? Honestly, Hunter and Tancredo have had as much time.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
432, Rudy does seem a little more nervous than usual.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
What proposal did Rudy offer? TLG
November 28th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Haha, of course you are, you support Romney.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
He PROBABLY would not sign it? WHAT? That seems like a huge PUNT to me.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
ahh, Hypothetical questions, you have got to love those.
This abortion question is a trap. There are instances when Abortion may be acceptable–rape, incest, etc.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
TLG, shotgun weddings!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
rudy sounds like me when i used to lie to my parents, then had to explain myself.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
What proposal did Rudy offer? TLG
November 28th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Rudy looks unwell, kind of sweaty, I have to say. Maybe he’s got something, and is slowed down – never seen him like this (it really does help Mitt a ton)…
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Stupid question.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
I give credit to Rudy for sticking to his guns. Good for him.
Mitt was a little weak.
Wow, bringing Jesus into the debate.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
I can’t believe it, usually Rudy is the picture of steely strength and I think I just saw him visibly shaking.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Huck’s folksiness is really playing thin.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
welcome to church!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
that questioner has no idea what he is talking about. christians believe in the bible. the bible approves of the death penalty.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
TLG – your capital letters are hurting my ears
November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Mitt Romney would sign a federal ban on abortion if it was overwhelmingly popular amongst Americans? What about what the CONSTITUTION says about where the power to decide laws about homicide exists?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Good response by Mitt. Right to Life is higher than Right of states.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
huck’s fake sincerity makes me sick.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
It’s been a bad day for Rudy
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Lol!!!!! Toti!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Ugh, Huckabee avoiding the question with a joke.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
oh great, more funny jokes from the jester.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
I feel like half of this debate consists of Rudy and Huckabee trying to convince the audience that they aren’t closet liberals. Because I know the facts, I know that Rudy is most certainly NOT a liberal, but for those voters who are just tuning into the campaign, Rudy and Huck are both going to seem pretty liberal tonight.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
huckabee’s joke was pretty good. i’ve never said he’s not funny, just dont like his policies.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Nice line from Huck.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Would Jesus support the death penalty???
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
huck saying life didn’t get a chance to exist?? what?? so what’s wrong iwth abortion???
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Huckabee might’ve just saved himself again with a one liner.
Tanc great answer…
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
tancredo is so incredibly bad at public speaking.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
uh oh, mitt. bible question.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Yikes!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Long drawn out answer of nothingness by Huckabee
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Another really stupid question. What a waste of time.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Huck usually avoids questions with a joke. I wonder if the media will pick up on that.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
horrible question. it’s a trap question about the Bible.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
lol Huck.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
leave it to cnn to come up with ridiculous questions like this. ther is some holier than thou attitude from huckabee.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
What a ridiculous and offensive question
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Good answer by Rudy.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
this seems so stupid in a debate for who is going to be president
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
no uh oh … Mitt believess the Bible, as it has been translated correctly
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
if mitt was smart he would say the mormon article of faith: “we believe the bible to be the word of god” leave it at that.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Dude, religion is way too far embeddeed in this race, probably because Mitt is part of the debate.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
just say a quick no and move on…
November 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
i will keep my mouth shut on giuliani’s comment for the sake of being civil.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
Romney seemed slick for the first time tonight with that answer.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
Man that question really bothers me.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
i seriously can’t handle huckabee preaching in these debates.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
wow bad response by Mitt. But Huck might save him.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
Rudy doesn’t believe Jonah was in the belly of the whale–that’s about the closest he ever comes to Thomas Paine.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Quick – which candidate on the stage was THREE TIMES endorsed by the LIBERAL PARTY, a near-communist organization? What’s your guess?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Fairly good answer from Rudy. I disagree, and it may hurt him, but very forthright. Huckabee’s a little weak. Romney was average.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
preach away – your flock is growing with each word
November 28th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Sadly, Mitt never even brings up religion.
Well, Mitt role in the LDS church equates to a theology degree.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Huck seems to be gaining weight again. Huckheads beware! The fat Huck is a liberal!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
That was a really stupid question for a presidential debate. Wow!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Huckabee needs to stop the sermon.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
good positive message by romney
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Typical campaign video. Probably the safest/best tonight so far though.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Nice video from Romney
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
“Basic values like marriage are now up for debate” –
How disgusting that gays would want to partake in a ceremony of love like everyone else.
I now hate him on a personal level, too.
Oh, Mitt, when will you do something honorable in this race? I keep waiting and waiting.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
I just started watching, but Huckabee mopped the floor with these guys are the question of the death penalty and the Bible.
Did you see Romney silently panic when pressed on the issue if he believed every word?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
jrcutler, its not romney, it is thanks to the moral majority mindset. religion an dpolitics have become too imbedded in my opinion. it is not good for religion to be that way.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
i think that ron paul was endorsed by the lberal party. cause he’s LIBERTarian?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
mws. there was no panic, he was thinking about how stupid the question was.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Bah!!! Mitt had a good first half to the question, but hten stumbled when Cooper didn’t think ti was enough.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
All you need to do to see how far the Republican Party has strayed from the values of a Republic, just add “Why is…?” to each of the text captions in Mitt Romney’s mini-commercial.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Mitt getting into religion too far would cause choas in the debate. Mitt was smart to keep it simple and not explain things more fully. Stupid question anyways.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
I have never been more disgusted by a question in my life. What a waste of time.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
I can’t wait for a solid break for the GOP from the Christian right. Enough with the hostage crisis.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
i think that ron paul was endorsed by the lberal party. cause he’s LIBERTarian?
Yeah, totally the freaking same. :eye roll:
November 28th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
I have never been more disgusted by a question in my life. What a waste of time.
Isn’t this debate depressing?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
TLG- i’m not saying they’re the same, i just figured it was a trick question, and there is a lot of crossover between liberal and libertarian on social issues.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Romney’s slickness is our side’s version of Hillary’s shrillness. Hillary has basically learned to hide it, but catch her off guard and it all spills out. Same with Romney and his double-speak.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Mitt doesn’t need to bring up his religion. If you think so, then they all should. What does Paul worship, what does Tancredo? What are the tenets of Thompson’s faith? I have no idea – maybe they all need to explain it. Further, how come Clinton or Obama don’t ever get asked about their religion?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Lol! 508, that quote reminded me of that scene in the Simpsons where Homer goes: “Why are all bad things named after kids? Like KIDdie-porn? KID-napping?” and Bart replies, “Well, what about ADULTery?”
xD
November 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
TLG you need anger management. LOL
November 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
this rudy ad is dumb as hell.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
John Galt,
“he was thinking about how stupid the question was.”
No. He was calculating.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
That is a great video by Rudy.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
That was a weird video from Rudy. At least it was light-hearted, though.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
Actually Joe C and TLC, it was Rudy Giuliani who was endorsed three times by the Libs – who then hired the son of the boss of the Liberal Party in his administration. And yes, the Liberal Party really is super-liberal, founded by socialists.
Go Mitt!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
Good ad by Rudy..funny
November 28th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
why did she call it “AFglfhanistan’ is it like the dem debate when richardson kept saying ‘pockistan”
November 28th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
TLG you need anger management. LOL
I hate him. I hate him so, so much. He’s bigoted against Muslims and gays, on top of being a liar as a politician?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
Rudy can make a comeback here, but it may not be enough
November 28th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
There it is…9-11…I was there.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
there’s 9/11 Rudy again … noun, verb, 9/11
November 28th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Rudy really needs to stop referencing 9/11. It works reasonably well on a good night. It simply seems like a fall-back option now, given his poor performance.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Should we really be fighting “terrorism” when what we are actually facing is a transnational Muslim insurgency against foreign occupation and support for oppressive regimes?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
Actually Joe C and TLC, it was Rudy Giuliani who was endorsed three times by the Libs – who then hired the son of the boss of the Liberal Party in his administration. And yes, the Liberal Party really is super-liberal, founded by socialists.
That was due to a fallout with Dinkins.
In case you’re forgetting, the Conservative Party was willing to back Rudy for a third term, had he decided to fight for an extension.
Either way — look at his record. Do you people care about words or actions?
Haha, dumb question: I already know the answer.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
Nah, this was hte right question to go back to 9/11 on, he did it right.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
McCain is kicking trash today. Good for him.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
TLG,
you are simply factually wrong in your statement.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
McCain is right. He’s the only one who pointed out that Bush’s stay the course and the Dems’ retreat and surrender was a false choice.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
McCain is killing Rudy’s comeback.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
People- Don’t overestimate how much this will hurt Rudy. All the debates have done, with the exception of Huckabee, is give campaigns bragging rights.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
mccain said he is the only one that opposed the rumsfeld strategy. what about ron paul?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
McCain is the only one on the stage that said Rumsfeld’s strategy was doomed to failure?
*Cough*RonPaul*cough*
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
Good answer from McCain.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
This is rudy’s strong point. McCain only talks about Vietnam and Thanksgiving in Iraq.
By the way, don’t confuse Romney’s communication skills and intelligence for slickness. I know we are used to 7 years of Bush communication skills, but it should be a relief to hear someone who has a complete grasp of this issues and can actually verbalize them.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
Yeah, McCain did steal the thunder.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
Wonderful answer from Dunc.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Why is Sen. McCain’s left cheek bigger than his right?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
so far…
1. Mitt
2. McCain
3. Fred
4. Duncan
5. Giulliani
6. Huckabee
7. Tanc
8. Paul
November 28th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
What an awful question….disaster.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
541 – either from vietnam or skin cancer. i dont know which.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Here comes Slick Mitt!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
TLG, you dislike lying politicians? Is there any other kind? Surely its just a question of how much…
November 28th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Oh, don’t bring up Guantanamo if you don’t have to.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Boy Romney stinks when it turns to Forign Policy.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Romney seems to be hinting towards McCain being secretary of Defense. Good idea.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Romney stumbled a bit, but a great answer to begin with.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
Yeah, Swint, but the crowd liked his answer about Guantanamo.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
Ouch…that hurt Mitt.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
why bring up guantamo if not necessary?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
McCain is being a looser. He just hates Romney and that is something that I don’t like about him.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
TLG – you got it wrong. The Liberal Party endorsed Rudy the time he LOST to Dinkins and then TWICE MORE. Why? Because Rudy was liberal, in some instances as much or more so than Dinkins. Just look it up. Hell, he endorsed Mario Cuomo (who DID have a falling out with Dinkins, by the way). There was no fall-out. There was a political deal. A super-liberal deal.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
McCain just schooled Romney.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
mccains taking the unpopular position – defending terrorists – you go!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
I disagree with McCain on Torture. Trying to compare what we have done to Pol Pot is ridiculous.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
ROFL Romney destroys candidate 3.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
“We’re not going to do what Pol Pot did”?
What, you mean kill hundreds of thousands of Cambodians?
No, you’re right, McCain. We didn’t do what Pol Pot did. He killed hundreds of thousands of Cambodians using ground forces. We did it with carpet bombs.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Romney is clearly avoiding the question. His stock is going down a bit. McCain’s is going up.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
this is an argument that Mitt cannot win.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Romney just brought up Cofer Black? Are you kidding? Cofer Blackwater?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
McCain had the high ground until this last response
November 28th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
You can see the hate for Romney seething out of McCain’s face.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Hate to say it, but McCain’s experiences are really intense and he’s not thinking clearly.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
McCain is using the right rhetoric, but he is a bit off on this.
Just because McCain has been a POW, doesn’t make him the end all be all of what is appropriate and what is not.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
I haven’t come to a conclusion on waterboarding, but I think McCain is misrepresenting Romney’s position. If it weren’t for McCain’s history, I would say Romney got the better of that question.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
How is this a winning issue for McCain? Most people want us to do what it takes to squash terrorism. That said because of McCain’s service he carries alot of weight.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Dude, what is McCain trying to prove? Stupid!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:33 pm
I never in a million years thought I would make this statement… BUT
We need Senator John McCain to be our nominee for the Presidency of the United States of America.
AND I AM NOW PROUD TO SUPPORT HIM!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:33 pm
Keep in mind that we are still in Germany and Japan from WWII. This whole argument about Iraq is out of context
November 28th, 2007 at 9:33 pm
TLG – you got it wrong. The Liberal Party endorsed Rudy the time he LOST to Dinkins and then TWICE MORE. Why? Because Rudy was liberal, in some instances as much or more so than Dinkins. Just look it up. Hell, he endorsed Mario Cuomo (who DID have a falling out with Dinkins, by the way). There was no fall-out. There was a political deal. A super-liberal deal.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Wonderful answer by McCain on torture. It’s absolutely depressing that he is the only candidate on the stage willing to take such a stand.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Cofer is a REALLY good adviser. Take some time to research him. The Blackwater crap is as bad as the Ollie North mess. Read around. If you’re listing and watching the drive-by’s you’re not getting the truth about Blackwater.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
I like the respectful tone Romney gave McCain. I think that McCain doesn’t care what answer Romney gives, he is looking for a club to beat him with. Even if he has to create his own version of Romney’s answer
November 28th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
I haven’t come to a conclusion on waterboarding, but I think McCain is misrepresenting Romney’s position. If it weren’t for McCain’s history, I would say Romney got the better of that question.
Romney HAS no position on that issue. Or does he have every position?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
574: *Cough*RonPaul?*Cough*

Paul, the surge is working, even the NY Times knows it’s working! jeez
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
We ARE giving them their country back RON!
He is an idiot on this. He is so determined that his judgement is clouded. Vietnam is not a friend, they are a soft ally.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Ron Paul always winds up so high and his voice gets whiney.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
What is Paul doing? He’s preaching to the wrong crowd. He missed his debate last week.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
579, What if the core issue is not whether the surge is working, but whether we have a moral or Constitutional authority to be there in the first place…?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
You have a conflict with your own ideas if you are pro-death penalty and not pro Guanto.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Dang McCain is gonna bring it!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Paul doesn’t make sense to me. I try, but I keep failing. Who is this guy?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
I basically agree with McCain’s position on torture as long as an exception is made for the Jack Bauer scenarios where it’s either torture or 100,000 people die. Those situations will be few and far between.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
McCain’s response, vis-a-vis Romney, was absolutely perfect.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
countdown to 608!!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
exactly, DaveG
November 28th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Paul u can’t beat McCain!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Paul: BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Does Paul think that he is in an interveiw for history teacher?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Yes! Yes, McCain on reading the writings of al-Qaeda! Yes!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
i love ron paul, but he loses me every time when he says we brought muslim hate upon us. that is not the case. or even if it is, the bell cannot be unrung.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
McCain is doing great in this debate. Giuliani horrible. Everyone else okay.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Correct, Tancredo. Being realistic.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Is Huckabee still there???
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
I liked McCain’s position also, but his disrespectful hotheaded attitude towards Romney is disgusting.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Publisher,
Perfect if you don’t mind misstating his position
November 28th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
McCain needs to buy the Al Qaeda Reader. Is Paul the only one who has read it?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
I agree with Romney’s position, in the sense that banning specific techniques, in a very public fashion, seems unnecessary and unwise. But, I likely lean towards McCain’s position on waterboarding in particular.

tancredo didn’t tie in immigration – i’m dissappointed
November 28th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Stupid question for Rudy. I think that Rudy got short-changed tonight.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
McCain actually loves Romney. This is an amazing endorsement.

November 28th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
rudy should be knocking this 9/11 question out of the park. instead its just same old ” i saved new york… blah blah george f. will”
November 28th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
WOOT! the G Will refereence
November 28th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

November 28th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
LOL THOMPSON.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
Creative, stupid question.
LOL Thompson.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
George Will gave one nice quote to Rudy and Rudy flaunts it as an endorsement. Who is it again that George Will calls “My man”?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
“McCain needs to buy the Al Qaeda Reader. Is Paul the only one who has read it?”
I’ve read it! I tout it on this site all the time.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
610 – no, i heard him first, just quick on the post. but still, who didnt see it coming? joe biden has it wrong, he doesnt answer each question with 9/11, he answers each question with ” i reduced crime and increased adoptions in new york”
November 28th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
HAHA Anderson Cooper had to remind Thompson what they were talking about. HAHA How old is Fred?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
I do like Thompson’s humility, it’s a breath of fresh air.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Thompson finally woke up after an hour and a half. He may have had nap in between questions to liven him up a bit.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Funny joke by Thompson. But, I wonder if highlighting similarities to Cheney (even surface similarities) is wise.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
fred thompsons worst answer of the night. what was he saying about the Veep position?

Romney vs. Rudy
Romney vs. McCain
Romney vs. Huck
He’s involved in all the fights! It’s not a good strategy to go negative.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
“I’m gonna give you some straight talk”
If you have to say it, are you really giving it? he says that all the time. Come up with something new.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
straight talk express brought to you by john mccain
November 28th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

November 28th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

November 28th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
VP Cheney power is MSM myth – he’s the friggin VICE PRESIDENT OF THE US!!! is he supposed to flip burgers?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
TLG, I’ll give you Rudy was good for two months after 9/11 till he tried to stay in office illegally. I’ll give you that crime continued to go down in New York when he took over 9and has really plummeted since he left, under Bloomberg) – so ok, what has Giuliani really done?
Romney has a career of true accomplishment, and he never endorsed Mario Cuomo or cut deals with the Liberal Party.
November 28th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
627, Why not look at the Constitution for the answer to your question?
November 28th, 2007 at 9:52 pm
Okay, this is sick, can we move on now – Ick!
November 28th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
huckabee was expecting that space exploration question! he had to be!
November 28th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Huckabee just proved again that he’s a tax and spend liberal who will pander to anyone (FairTax advocates, Illegal Immigrants, or Florida’s NASA workers).
Thanks Tancredo for pointing out that the Huckster is a fiscal liberal. It couldn’t have been made more clear.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
A recent survey showed Huckabee had the lowest approval rating among the African American population. Yet he panders to another group. Reach out to everyone!!!!
He got 29% approval and 20% disapproval from a group just yesterday. All the other major candidates scored much higher than the Huckster.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:02 pm

November 28th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
