Thought Fred Thompson would get left out of the heavyweight endorsements coming out today? Think again…
From the Fredwire:
Today the Fred Thompson campaign announced that conservative leader and Virginia Republican National Committeeman Morton Blackwell is endorsing Senator Thompson for President of the United States.
“Of all the candidates who have a chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination, Fred Thompson is my choice,” said Morton Blackwell. “Senator Thompson has the most conservative instincts on the public policy issues that are important to America.”
Morton Blackwell is well known in conservative circles as the Founder and President of the Leadership Institute, an educational foundation, which trains young conservatives for leadership in the political sphere. Prior to founding the Leadership Institute, Mr. Blackwell was Barry Goldwater’s youngest elected delegate to the 1964 Republican National Convention in San Francisco. He was a national convention Alternate Delegate for Ronald Reagan in 1968 and 1976, and a Ronald Reagan Delegate at the 1980 national convention. He currently serves as a Virginia Republican National Committeeman.
“I am grateful for the endorsement of Morton Blackwell, who is one of the most respected leaders of the conservative movement in America,” said Senator Thompson. “His long history in the conservative movement matches my own journey. We were both early supporters of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan and we have been consistent conservatives since. I appreciate Morton’s confidence in my commitment to conservative principles, my vision for our country, and my ability to lead it.”
UPDATE: Rumor has it that Fred will get a big endorsement from the Sunshine State in the near future…
UPDATE 2: Fred, once again, was the one candidate who didn’t fudge the facts in the last debate.

By looking at his supporters jumping ship and his numbers in the Polls, one could have thought Fred was already out of the race. This is an interesting turn of events.

Its too late to wake up. Its too late to move to Iowa. Fred is just now getting around to things that should have happened in July.

That is a nice endorsement, but I wonder if it may be too late.

Wow, Mitt gets a big endorsement and all of the sudeen we get posts from Rett to push it down the page here. It really is quite pathetic how Rett has hijacked Kavon’s site.

It is a nice endorsement for Fred, but it’s way too late.

Endorsement season is in full swing. I wonder what Blackwell sees in Fred beyond the policy positions. Perhaps a little quid pro quo should Thompson make it anywhere, but my guess is as good as anyone else.

Tommy, admire your passion for Fred through good and bad. The way things are turning out, I wish Fred would have done better; probably too late now.

Fred Who?
December 11th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
Fred is devoting all of his time and energy in Iowa. He won’t win there, but any votes he can pull from Huckabee will be for the good of the nation….so anything that builds him up, I’m all in favor of. Morton Blackwell is a good get, but entirely insignificant in comparison with National Review’s endorsement of Mitt.

Tommy, is it Crist? Or perhaps, Jeb? Are we talking about that big of an endorsement?

Good luck to Fred in the coming weeks. I really want us to be in a scenairo wher Fred is as viable as Huck or Mitt. I’d rather have a wide-open primary, then the impending Huckabee trainwreck.

While faint, there is still a heartbeat coming out of the Fred08 campaign.
