Firststate Blog is reporting Fred Thompson will not make the cut for the Feb 5 primary.
I called to confirm this with the Delaware Department of Elections and a man named Paul confirmed it. Paul stated that Thompson received only 281 of the required 500 signatures. Actually Thompson had 800 signatures but the rest were not registered Republicans as required in Delaware.

December 12th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
No biggie, Rudy was already guaranteed the 12 delegates in DE anyways
December 12th, 2007 at 1:53 pm

DE qualifications have a back up for the candidates who don’t get the 500 signatures.
If any candidate has qualified for Matching Funds (just qualfied he does not have to have filed) the State GOP Chairman submits names to the Secretary of State who are not already listed on the Presidential Primary ballot on December 19th.

Here are the results from the most recent Delaware poll, which was conducted by FDU from October 3 to 9:
Giuliani 37%
McCain 14%
Thompson 13%
Romney 10%
Someone else 5%

Interesting…Definitely bad for Fred, but Delaware is kind of a small, eccentric state when it comes to primaries (won by Forbes in both ‘96 and ‘00).
Also, off topic, but Instapundit says that the Palin for VP movement is gathering steam: http://instapundit.com/archives2/012817.php
December 12th, 2007 at 2:09 pm
Oh man. I read the last part of #18 before reading who said it, and I thought to myself “Wow, that Palin for VP guy is gonna be psyched!”. Haha.
December 12th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
No thanks, I already served a 2 year proselyting mission, and I wouldn’t want to preach what I find dishonest.

#18 Palin for VP. . .I can virtually guarantee that Sarah Palin won’t be on the ticket in ‘08. She is the best thing ever to happen to our state, and if it means strapping her down to her governor’s office chair and forcing her at gunpoint to remain in the great state of Alaska, we’ll make sure she stays right where she is. Palin has an approval rating among state voters hovering at 80%. She just won support (and a standing ovation, if you can believe it) from Alaska’s teachers for proposing to hand over $3 billion in budget surplus funds to Alaskan schools over the next few years. She got a new oil tax passed by a special session of the legislature that won wide support among both Republicans and Democrats. She unveiled her state budget Monday that limits spending to just 4%, even with a surplus, when past administrations saw increases as high as 18%. Should she run in the future for higher office I will be at the head of the pack of supporters. But for now, trust me. . .we ain’t letting her go anywhere for a while!

Michael,
According to you, Mike Huckabee can do no wrong. He is as pure as the drifted snow. His heart is pure, his faith is secure. Nothing he says or does is ever in the wrong.
Who is it again that belongs to a cult?
December 12th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
alaska jake,
I can sympathize with you…but have you looked at the federal government lately? We could use someone like Palin to bust some heads and clean the place up. I realize that Alaska needs her, but I think America needs her more. (And Lt. Gov. Parnell seems like a decent guy…you can keep him.)
Note: alaska jake’s argument is one of the most common I see…you know you have a good candidate when the primary argument against her is the fact that her current constituents like her so much that they don’t want to share her.
December 12th, 2007 at 4:02 pm
Palin would do wonders in DC. But when you live in a state that’s known for Ted Stevens, Frank Murkowski, and Don Young, and currently has enough state lawmakers in prison to form a fraud and bribery caucus. . .well you can understand why we want to keep Palin around as long as possible.
December 12th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
Forgive me if this true story is too risque for some of you: My wife and I are trying to conceive. If I’m ever not really in the mood during the necessary days, she whispers “Sarah Palin” into my ear. Works every time.

Shambolic.

It is a well-known fact that organizations take on the chief characteristics of their leader.
Is it any surprise that Fred’s group couldn’t get it together to get those signatures?
December 12th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
#32 JoeW, that’s a sham poll you can volunteer to be included in.
December 14th, 2007 at 12:31 am
I can’t wait to laugh at all of you when Ron Paul destroys all these other morons.

Attention: Palin for VP: Forbes won the Delaware Primary in 1996; George Bush won easily in 2000! Hey everybody — it’s no problem to get registered R’s to sign petitions in DE — you just can’t start the last week!! The Thompson people were desperate…..McCann & Giuliani had the petitions signed weeks ahead of time……that’s planning!!
