Fox News and NBC report that Tom Tancredo will drop out of the race tomorrow, and he will likely endorse a candidate.
Most speculation suggests that he will endorse Fred Thompson.
However, Mitt Romney is apparently pushing hard for Tancredo’s backing too.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
Who is the bigger prize….
Tancredo or Steve King…..
December 19th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Huckabee is soft on immigration, so you know Huck will not get the endorsement.

A poll showing good news for Rudy in FL is supposed to be released at any minute.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Huh… I’d think he’d be endorsing Hunter.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Maybe he can take Hunter and Keyes with him?
December 19th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Re #4, Brit Hume said so yesterday. His show is on right now and the poll hasn’t been released. I’m hazarding a guess it’s a Fox poll and he’s about to release it.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
My money’s on Fred.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
Despite my glibness in #6, this does make me fonder of Tancredo.
He’s dropping out after getting exposure for his issue in as much of the race as possible, yet before voting so as not to dilute the anti-illegal-immigration vote. He’s giving his supporters a chance to coalesce around another candidate who can deliver his message.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
This is lame….but….
Maybe Tancredo is ticked about Steve King not endorsing him earlier….
So, instead of going with Steve’s guy (Fred-Fizzle)….
Tancredo goes with Romney to get back at Steve….
I know this is a lame theory……
December 19th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Smart money is on Tanc endorsing Fred.
Whispers on the Fox Poll is that it contains good news for Hizzoner.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
10 – that could happen. I hear that the Tancredo’s and the King’s were really tight until the Tancredo stopped by at the King’s house and saw Tancredo watching the Univision debate. That was the end of that friendship.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
#10 – I thin Tancredo is more principled than vindictive.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Metro, are you saying that Fox will have a strong Rudy poll? Isn’t that like saying that the LDS church will have a strong poll on Romney?
December 19th, 2007 at 6:41 pm
I agree….#12
But maybe he wants an “In” with the future president….
December 19th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
Despite all the rumors to the contrary, in tomorrow’s endorsement, Tancredo will only mention building the fence 7 times, not the 18 times as has been whispered on the street.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
I mean…#13 (what happened there…I swear Josiah was #12)
December 19th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
oh my gosh what a shock! The question is, who WANTS his bigoted supporters?
December 19th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
Kavon – since you are going to have to change the rankings, let me make a suggestion:
1) Romney/Huckabee
2) McCain
3) Giuliani
4) Thompson
5) Paul
6) Hunter
7) Keyes
December 19th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Heads up: Gov. Romney is tied for the lead nationally in the latest NBC/WSJ poll.

December 19th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
Kavon,
You should drop the rankings….completely
They are changing day-to-day…OR
Romney should be a tie with someone for 1st….
Either way your list makes no sense….
December 19th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
ACT, is that supposed to be a joke?
Intrade:
Rudy 33.4
Mitt 22.5
Huck 16.7
JMac 12.9
If you’re going to assert 16.7 > 33.4, you’re going to have to present a detailed argument as to why the smart money is wrong.
December 19th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Thomas A,
Nice…….
December 19th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
Lets get up the new nbc/wsj polling showing Rudy and Romney tied at 20% with the Huckamoron close behind.

December 19th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
Tommy,
Your 4th link doesn’t show anything about Mitt pushing hard to get Tancredo’s endorsement.
I’m not saying that Mitt isn’t pushing…just that the link doesn’t show it.
December 19th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
Metro,
I know you are a huge proponent of Intrade, and they had a good record the day before the election in 2006. Do you have any info, however, on how accurate they tend to be from weeks/months out? I ask out of genuine curiosity, not as a gotcha.
December 19th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
Metro,
Who the Hell cares about Intrade?? Would you quit posting that Crap, no one cares!!! Rudy is done for and if you cant see that then your an idot! What kind of Dick waits until the Florida Primary?? The race will be practically over by then. America is finally waking up to the most Liberal Republican in the world, and the Most Corrupt, Rudy makes Clinton seem like a Saint with all of his personal baggage, by the way who are Giuliani’s own kids supporting?? Thats rediculous when your own frickin kids wont even support thier father! Rudy Sucks!!
December 19th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Oooh, this stings Giuliani, but wait, the shiock and awe is coming! The Giuliani Tsunami is coming before the end of the year, as predicted by our city friend.

December 19th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Not like Tancredo was set to make a big splash regardless. Can’t see how he’ll endorse Romney, what with his illegal gardeners and all…

MindTheGap, about 98% accurate 90 days before the election. (I can get you a link on that.) But that only applies to 2-way elections, not multi-candidate, multi-contest primaries.
December 19th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Tancredo will talk all of his .5% nationally and give it to Fred?

December 19th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Nate, when Republicans are polled about which candidate is most electable, Rudy dominates Mitt by more than 2-1 margins.
When they are asked who would be a better Commander in Chief, Rudy dominates by more than 5-1 margins.
Those are the issues voters will focus on when the go into the booth.
Also, Rudy’s proven his ceiling is over 60% in 2-man polling. I believe the others have much lower ceilings. See my post a couple threads up.
December 19th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Interesting.
I live in NH and just received a mailing today from the Tancredo campaign that slams Huckabee and McCain hard on illegal immigration. It doesn’t mention any other candidates.
I don’t want to read too much into it but NH would be a strange place to spend if his goal was to help Thompson.
December 19th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Factors like those made Rudy’s chances not “oblivion.”
Trust me, when a candidate looks like his chances are oblivion, his Intrade crashes down to about 5. See Fred. And McCain, before he started to resurrect.
December 19th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
Very interesting Kevin. Tancredo would be a nice get if Romney were to get him. I don’t really think that will happen but regardless he would be useful.
December 19th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Abe… Take your own advice.

It will be interesting to see what happens here. I had heard some speculation that Dunc Hunt and Tancredo might drop out and endorse Senator Thompson – this could really shake up the race.

He’d be in a stronger position that way, particularly if he (Tanc) is considering running for Allard’s Senate seat in CO…

Actually, has Abe been over the top like Bryan? That “take your own advice” didn’t seem to match anything on this thread?
December 19th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
I have my doubts that he will back anybody, but if he does, I would guess Mitt. If he backs Fred, then Fred turns out to be pro-illegal imigration at all, he’ll lose credibility.
December 20th, 2007 at 12:12 am
#34- Matthew-
Very funny.
In all seriousness, I think that Tancredo will endorse someone. While whomever the recipient turns out to be, will be happy to get it, I have to say that I doubt that Tancredo’s endorsement is of much value, given his standing in the polls and lack of organization. I see this as being primarily beneficial b/c it will shorten the power rankings by one more (highly valuable real estate being taken up) and also mean we won’t have to waste any time at the St. Anselm’s debate listening to him answer the one or two questions he might have received…
Any NH or Iowa folks know – what happens to Tancredo on the ballot? I know it’s way too late for him to be removed… do caucus-goers who attempt to vote for him get told, you can’t? (Not that he would receive many votes in any event, but I’m wondering…)
December 20th, 2007 at 12:32 am
How can he endorse anyone. He stands alone on his signature issue, immigration.
This decision should have come after the Iowa Straw Poll.
Now we can cut down on global warming without extra lighting and time for broadcasts to head his lame messages on those nationally televised debates.
