Is Fox News blackballing Fred Thompson?

Anyone wonder why Fox News Channel rarely mentions the GOP candidate Rush Limbaugh dubbed the only conservative on the stage after one of the ubiquitous “debates.” Wonder why the so called conservative news channel is seemingly so out of step with the leader of the conservative movement?

Undoubtedly many of the DC-NY-Boston conservative pundits/talk show hosts understandably appreciate the job Rudy Giuliani did in making their home and workplaces in NYC liveable. It is understandable that they would like to see one of “their own” carry the GOP banner rather than another Southerner.

But could their be more to the story?

GOP pollster Frank Luntz, famous for the focus group “meter”, admitted effusive praise and gratitude for FNC allowing (hiring) him to appear after every debate, in his Christmas Day appearance on C-Span’s Washington Journal, after one of Redstate’s finest elicited a very revealing response earlier in the program.

The “pilgrim meter” begins at 1:47:30 of the Frank Luntz appearance on the Washington Journal Entire Program (December 25, 2007).

Pilgrim, a regular blogger on Redstate, identified himself as a “leave me the hell alone” Fred Thompson supporter who approves of Fred’s “thumbing his nose at the Washington insiders” campaign that is more focused on internet substance pieces and local press.

Luntz’s nods showed he agreed, but the nod came to an abrupt halt when it appeared pilgrim’s analysis might hit too close to home.

Luntz says Fred’s poor poll numbers are due to one thing. No, not his late entry. No, not the laziness myth. And no, not his age or “trophy wife.”

The reason Fred is behind in Iowa is because he went on Jay Leno’s show rather than appear at a New Hampshire debate on……FOX NEWS CHANNEL.

How petty of Fox.

  1. www.act-blog.co.nr Says:

FOX is in the pocket of the Giuliani campaign. They don’t mention Thompson or Romney except to attack them, because they know that would hurt their guy. They have built up McCain a little bit recently and Huckabee, because they think those two can take out Romney.

  2. Illinoisguy Says:

I agree act, except I’d say they and other media were totally responsible for the Huckabee surge. And when Huck started to falter, they’ve been propping up McCain. Basically, I don’t think its anti-Thompson or Mitt, but rather whatever it takes to promote Giuliani or keep him viable. Once in a while Hannity stands up a little for Mitt, so it could be more unfair to Fred. As a Mitt supporter, I know it will take me a long time before I forget FoxNews’s manipulation of this Republican presidential campaign.

Talk about slanted media bias, here’s a story a friend just e-mailed me:

Two boys in Boston were playing baseball when one of them was attacked by a killer Rottweiler. The dog had already locked his jaws on the boy’s leg. Thinking quickly, the other boy ripped a board off of a nearby fence, wedged it into the dog’s collar, twisted it, broke the dog’s neck and saved his friend’s life.

A newspaper reporter from the Boston Globe witnessed the incident and rushed over to interview the boy. The reporter began entering the data into his laptop, beginning with the headline: “Brave Boston Red Sox Fan Saves A Friend From Jaws Of Vicious Animal.”

“But I’m not a Boston Red Sox fan,” the little hero interjected.

“Sorry,” replied the Reporter, “but since we’re in Boston, I just assumed you were.”
Hitting the delete key, the reporter started over, “John Kerry Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Dog Attack.”

“But I’m not a John Kerry fan either,” the boy responded.

The reporter said, “I assumed everybody in Massachusetts was either for the Red Sox, John Kerry or Ted Kennedy. What team or person do you like?”

“I’m a Yankees fan and I really like Mitt Romney,” the boy said.

“Hitting the delete key, the reporter began again:
“Arrogant Little Snot-Nosed Mormon Republican Kills Beloved Family Pet.”

  4. Thomas Alan Says:

Has Sen. Thompson been getting negative press from Fox News? I haven’t noticed. I’ve seen him shown as much as any other candidate and the stories have been pretty neutral.

  5. Illinoisguy Says:

    beth – LOL Good one!!!

  6. bethtopaz Says:

Thanks, Illinoisguy – I thought it was pretty funny myself – and held a lot of truth in the way the media is so biased against Mitt Romney!

  7. Debbie Says:

Yes, Fox News Channel has been very negative to Fred. Especially Fred Barnes. I don’t get it. Surely they are not so petty as to hurt Fred because of the Jay Leno show.

  8. bethtopaz Says:

The guys at Fox News have a man-crush on Rudy. Plain and simple.

  9. bjalder26 Says:

Whoa, Rush didn’t call Fred “the only conservative on the stage”, he said.

“There was one candidate who did not display any moderateness or liberalism or have any of his past forays into those areas displayed, and that candidate was Fred Thompson.”

Fred talks about conservative ideals rather than policy, and he wasn’t doing well enough to warrant any attacks.

  10. Carson Says:

#9. Fred has been talking policy. He’s the only candidate to have a social security plan that economist say will fix the crisis. He’s the only candidate to offer a specific plan to enlarge the military. He’s the only candidate to offer a flat tax in his tax plan.

  11. A.J. Sparxx Says:

If a voter needs Fox News to spotlight and inform them of what is going on in politics, then we are all in trouble. I totally disagree with this analysis of blaming a cable news network with a few million viewers of holding down a candidate’s poll numbers across the Country.

  12. Paul S Says:

    Oh what a friggin JOKE!

  13. Volunteer Voters » Fox News Still Bitter At Fred? Says:

[...] Fred Thompson’s fortunes in this campaign could trace back, at least in part, to one of the earliest decisions he made as an official candidate: Luntz says Fred’s poor poll numbers are due to one thing. No, not his late entry. No, not the laziness myth. And no, not his age or “trophy wife.” [...]

  14. UA Says:

Fox still loves Rudy, despite his fall in the polls. So much for “fair and balanced”

  15. John Galt Says:

foxnews is shameless. pretty embarassing for them. they could try and be a little professional.

  16. Ross Says:

As a Fox News watcher as long as they have been on the air in my city…I’ve been done with them since Thompson entered the race. They sicken me the way they continue to prop up Rudy…and many are correct when they say it’s not just Thompson…it’s anyone besides Rudy they either attack or ignore

  17. Igor R. Says:

When the substitute host on O’Reilly asked Dick Morris yesterday about who would win in Iowa, did Dick just answer the question? No. The first words out of his mouth were to the effect that someone had to lose. And who is that someone? Ah, you guess it: it’s Fred Thompson.

This goes on day in and day out, it’s really hard to take.

  18. sosly Says:

I’ve said from the onset that Fred Thompson not attending the Fox NH debate was akin to the
popular football captain not going to the geeks prom party. Fox has been pouting ever since. Rudy is and will alway be nothing but a lying, cheating, RHINO!!!
