Martial Law ended two weeks ago:
He made a bad choice of words when saying the U.S. needs to consider “what impact does it have on whether or not there’s going to be martial law continuing in Pakistan.” He should have said whether or not martial law will be reinstated – it was lifted nearly two weeks ago. A minor slip, maybe, but not a subject he wants to mess up on when he is already considered weak in the area of foreign policy.
I’m sorry, but if you are making a serious run for President there are some things you should just study. This isn’t an election for senior class president. Knowing if our sometimes-partner in the war on terror is still in the throes of Martial Law would be a great place to look competent on foreign policy.

“our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.â€
What is the Huckman apologizing for?
December 27th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
Oh, but Jason, he was speaking “figuratively”. That is how he meant it.
That is how the Huckabots will spin it. This just proves that every candidate has their foot-in-the-mouth moments, and here is one of Huck’s.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
I say his full answer on another site, it seemed rather long and rambling, with not much substance in between. He expressed condolences (fine.), and then said we need to audit our aid to Pakistan (???).
December 27th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
Jason,
Is it Marshall or martial……law….
You have 20 seconds……
December 27th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
#4 – Martial
December 27th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
Jason, Abe’s right, it’s martial law.
The extent to witch our language is boobie-trapped is hare-razing…
December 27th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
What the hell is Marshall Law? LOL.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
Yikes, bad day for me.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
I give him a pass.
We just need a President who is on the right side on abortion and gays….and anyway, God wants him to win.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
What we need to think about is: Would Madam Bhutto still be alive today if we hadn’t put so much pressure on Musharraf to bring her out of exile and then demanded that he lift the state of emergency to “speed democracy
We need to seriously reassess whether we even know what we’re doing and whether we have the wisdom and knowledge of the culture, religion, and politics of the region to be telling these governments how they should run things in their own countries…
Madam Bhutto could have been assassinated by any number of people for any number of reasons, but events like this seem to only further confirm the fact that we need to seriously re-examine our role in the politics of this region. It’s quite possible we might be doing more harm than good.
With that said, this is a sad day for many in Pakistan. I’m sure our thoughts and prayers are with them.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
Some one should tell me…how to spell Martial Law.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
Also, it’s “the throes of martial law,” not “the throws of Marshall Law.”
December 27th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
Where’s that Bloomberg poll!
December 27th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
where’s Mitt Romney when we need him to clear up misuse of the English language?? lol
December 27th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
UA,
Good point, and while he is at it, he could explain to Huck some basic current events.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
SUPER-MITT will save the day……
December 27th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
14: Mitt would approve. Figuratively, so to speak.

And more importantly why is the Huckman apologizing for the Bhutto assassination. Maybe he thinks God was too busy helping him in Iowa to look after poor ol’ Bhutto.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
#1 Argamenon,
“our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.â€
“What is the Huckman apologizing for?”
That statement floored me! What the heck is Huckabee thinking, you don’t apologize for something you were not involved with….geeeezzzz, This guy needs to be stopped, I can’t imagine him as our President. This guys is making HRC look more electable every day, I’ll support any GOP nominee except this guy!
December 27th, 2007 at 4:35 pm
#6 “The extent to witch our language is boobie-trapped is hare-razing…”
I hope this was a joke. There is nothing quite like correcting someone for bad spelling and then screwing up a few words yourself.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
where’s Mitt Romney when we need him to clear up misuse of the English language?? lol
Who needs Mitt Romney when you’ve got the grammar police?!
December 27th, 2007 at 4:39 pm
Erik, my favorite argument from old-style, tisk-tisking grammarians is that this jumble wouldn’t occur if people would only learn correct pronunciation. My theory is that, if you’re gonna screw up, at least have the heart to do it boldly and loudly, as if you really meant it.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
One of my most vivid memories as a child was seeing my dad march arm in arm with Marshall Law.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:43 pm
I dunno if you guys ever saw that show “Sealab 2021″ but the plot basis of one episode was the declaration of “Martian Law”. It had such great lines as “Under Martian Law, doctors and other wizards are forbidden!” and “Uh…under Martian Law…uh…what are my powers, exactly?”
December 27th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
On “West Wing” they had Martin Law.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
powerline was also teasing huckabee on his response. apparently huck is apologizing to pakistan because it is our fault that she was assasinated?
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2007/12/019387.php
December 27th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Then there was Jude Law in “All the Kings Men.”
December 27th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
#23 MWS,
LOL
December 27th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
maybe huck is taking advice now from josiah and, i assume, ron paul supporters who think all bad that happens in the world is our fault.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
huck’s one shot at appearing presidential and viable on foreign affairs and he totally blows it.
i will predict right now that there is NO WAY the GOP nominates mike huckabee.
it is going to be mccain or romney.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
….and King Jehoshaphat ruled under Judean Law.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
#29 John,
Where did I say that what happened today was ANYONE’s “fault”? All I’m saying is, our attempts at trying to police these governments assumes that we even have the wisdom and familiarity with the nuances of their culture, religion, and politics to know what’s best for them. We’ve been nannying, subsidizing, and bombing this region of the world for decades, and things don’t seem to be any better for it. What we need to think about is the possibility that our meddling in their affairs might actually make things worse.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
When my dyslexic tendencies take hold, I’m distraught by the idea that Pakistanis have to live under marital law. Anything for the SoCon vote these days.
December 27th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
MarkG,
“When my dyslexic tendencies take hold”
I’d have to double check with my priest, but I’m pretty sure that’s forbidden in the Bible.
Just to give you a head’s up….
December 27th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
Romney’s on fox news right now
December 27th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
Jimmy Carter “apologized” to the Iranians by throwing the Shah under the bus.
I think Huckabee would “apologize” to Pakistan by throwing Musharraf under
the bus.
December 27th, 2007 at 5:18 pm
Huck is not professional enough for POTUS. Period.
December 27th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
I hope you all get a chance to hear the interview that Mitt just finished on FoxNews. He was extremely impressive. If a Romney front pager would post it on here, I think its worth viewing by everyone. Thanks.
December 27th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
[...] Running with a minor criticism in the CBS report, Jason Bonham uses the opportunity to attack Huckabee over what he said regarding “Marshall [sic] law.” Huckabee: “what impact does it [...]
December 27th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Jason, you’re definitely (and unsurprisingly) one of the most imbalanced posters on this site. What about when Romney said he’d have to talk to his lawyers if there was imminent nuclear threat to the US — on national TV? Go read the updated article, people.
