McCain must be blowing his top seeing as he the war hero is losing despite the tremendous prop-up job by the MSM. I can see him seething when he gave his ad guys the green light on this ad – he’s got to be ticked off.
What is worse? having a guy who the media portrays as a phoney, in the whitehouse, but who is actually super-competent, or a guy who is ‘geniune’ and well intentioned but really just screws everything up all around him. Hmmmm… tough decision.
McCain is disgusting…”oh yeah, i take the high road, i don’t think that we should attack other candidate, etc. etc. etc. ” The man is so full of it, it reeks to high heaven. Now, i am going to be told that this man did so much for our country, POW, etc. Fine, i respect that but let me know of one thing that he has done for this country in his last 25 years in the senate, besides sticking Christians in the back, voting against tax cuts, McCain-Feingold etc. The guy is being propped up by the MSM, just like Huckleberry was, and now has to go negative in order to get close to Mitt, something he said he would not do. I don’t give a crap, johny, if 2 newspapers endorsed you, Actions will always speak louder than words!!!! and your actions over the last 25 years have been loud and clear.
Why can’t McCain just defend his positions on amnesty and taxes. There is never really any substance to him. He’s quickly becoming a one-trick pony, a la Huckabee. Voters already know that McCain would doom the economy. He should be trying to address that concern. That’s the biggest issue to voters.
In all fairness to McCain, he did cite from the newspaper articles. After all, we have been taught in middle school that we should look at newspapers as ONE of many sources for research. But yeah, we know Union Leader has gone out against Romney, so its credibility for objective is somewhat lacking. I am not sure of the other one. Oh well…
Mitt Romney will lose. And he has to. Or else others will begin to copy his blatent opportunistic style of hypocricy and self-denial. That is a dangerous precedent to set. Mitt Romney is the Republican Bill Clinton when it comes to the valuation of honor, and the Republican John Kerry when it comes to lack of identity.
Challenging Mitt Romney’s character is not gutter politics as it would be in the case of most politicians.
Kael, You are beyond ridiculous. You’re going to feel really dumb in 4 years when President Romney’s approval numbers make him nearly impossible to beat in 2012.
Well said Senator. Well said. Romney is indeed a phony. Romney is a profile in political cowardice who trashed ronald reagan when it suited his purpose. People in NH and Iowa are seeing through Romney’s shtick. Go back to Massachusetts Romney, the nation already turned down one liberal flip flopper for President and it has no stomach to digest another one!
McCain has been wrong on many core-Republican issues. McCain has offended or back – stabbed many in the party – the latest being his immigration / amnesty bill. McCain has been just wrong on many of the most important issues.
..and what do they say about Romney? “Romney is a phony!” They are going to have to do much better than that and citing liberal editorial endorsements to beat Romney in NH.
Well, well. Looks like McCain has been playing in the mud. Notice the difference between Romney’s ad, and McCain’s. Romney says McCain is a good man, but was just wrong on the issues. McCain says Romney is phony and a liar. One attacks stances on issues, the other attacks the man and his integrity. I reiterate what I said in earlier posts. McCain is a diry SOB, and NO candidate is above the fray at this point. It seems like only a week ago McCain was saying how despicable Romney’s attack ads are. All the while he has had this beauty in the can. Can you say . . . HYPOCRITE??
#22 – LOL – Rudy’s strategy up having other candidates fight each other is costing him the election – he’s been one of the most lackluster front running candidates in history.
I have no idea if Rudy’s strategy will work because it’s never been really tried before. Can he maintain support and/or get attention after loses in NH and Iowa?
The more mudslinging between Huck-Romney-McCain the better for Rudy I think. Who knows, maybe Rudy will finish a surprising 2nd in NH because either Romney or McCain goes too negative.
Erik, Rudy’s able to sit back and let the 3 candidates leading the early states tear each other up with negative ads. He’s above it all like an elder statesman, looking more and more attractive, gradually exceeding expectations throughout January.
It’s like the Dean/Gephardt negativity handing Iowa to Kerry.
ajay,
I think it’s very effective. I’m trying to stay neutral in the McCain/Romney battles, so I don’t end up taking sides when it doesn’t involve my candidate of choice, but it’s a good ad.
Mitt Romney’s candidacy is an insult to sentient beings everywhere. Only now is he beginning to get national press scrutiny. Good for JMac for using these to hit back.
Mitt is trying to outdo Burger King at selling whoppers!
MarkG (#36) All in fair, the Mitt supporters did ask you for your points of concerns with Mitt repeatingly, and you lashed back, again and again. Mitt is not phony because you say he is. He has to be phony because of what he did — that no other candidate has done, or else, all of them are phony. So, care to explain?
SGS: It all comes down to one thing for me. A candidate who strikes me as false, untrustworthy, and insincere will not receive my vote under any circumstances and must be vehemently opposed.
What drew my attention to all of these negative aspects of Romney were the constant maligning attacks on all of his rivals. Instead of arguing in favor of himself, his past, and his larger vision for the future, he has consistently tried to paint his opponents in a (dishonestly portrayed) negative shade, essentially making the argument that Mitt, by default, would be the only choice left.
The insulting subtext of this Romney strategy is: “You may not like me, but look at how reprehensible all of your other choices are. You will be forced to vote for me due to lack of alternatives.”
I’m tired of that type of argument and reject that line of reasoning.
#36 – MarkG, are you delusional? Romney has been the most scrutinized, attacked and vetted candidate in this race. He’s been criticized for being “too perfect”. His career, his family life, his endorsements, his motivation for running for office defy your comments. Here’s the National Review’s Endorsement of Romney for President. http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YmMxYTUyYzA1YTk2YzE5NGVmNjc0OGFjYWJmNzMzNjI=&p=1
ajay (#39) Yes. I have been here on this site for many months (since last Feb, I think). I have looked at most candidates, and found them lacking in many areas. I have listened to many claims about each candidates, including Mitt. So far, the accusations against Mitt actually are the weakest of all. You said he has flip-flopped. All candidates have, too. Unlikely all candidates, Mitt is the only one who admitted that he has realized he was not exactly correct with some issues, and there actually are much few points he has flip-flopped than any of the candidates.
Then, we have the character attack, like MarkG in (#40). He said that he think Mitt is false without explaining how he is false. He said that Mitt has painted candidates all in negative shades. So what? All candidates have, even McCain and Huckabee. So far, Mitt was the only one who has been focusing on the other candidates’ RECORDS, whereas, they have attacked his person. And then there is a trail in your life. You can look at what kind of people you have worked, and how they had respond to you. Mitt has blazed the trail of amazed people who are fiercely loyal and speak nothing but high respect for him. So, who is being false here? This is what continue to amaze me, that haters like MarkG can say he is false without backing it up.
Yes, I am demanding explanations from people like MarkG, because I want to vote honestly for a candidate that I believe is best for this job. I am not 100% for Mitt, but so far, Mitt has much to offer, that I can see, than other candidates. People like MarkG have failed to convience me otherwise, only because they have slew out subjective accusations. There is nothing substance to their arguments. I am still waiting. I can still be changed. So, again, I ask, what is it about Mitt specifically that is false?
The insulting subtext of this Romney strategy is: “You may not like me, but look at how reprehensible all of your other choices are. You will be forced to vote for me due to lack of alternatives.â€
I can assure you that you are mistaken on this point. Mitt’s strategy is that he has the most experience on resolving problems, and that he has one of the most experience executing many complex organizations. You were thinking of Rudy when you said the above: “You may not agree with me on 20%, but you can trust me with other 80%”.
#38 if you haven’t figured out that Romney is a phony yet you should probably go join your moonbat brethren over at DailyKos.
Pick an issue, and Romney has flip flopped on it John Kerry Style. The country is not crying out for another Massachusetts flip flopping liberal. Apparently you Romneybots weren’t paying attention in 2004. Can’t say I blame you as you were in all likelihood busy raising taxes in Massachusetts, appointing liberal judges who are busy freeing criminals to go on murder rampages, and let’s not forget working on a health care plan that hands out abortions for $50 a pop on the public time.
Mitt Romney is most the loathsome human being to ever run for the GOP nomination. HE WILL LOSE.
Kavon, it is unfortunately that your site, unlikely earlier this year when there many discussions about the qualifications and whatnots of candidates (some very hot to the point of being very emotional), has arrived at the point that we now have attacks against voters like chuck so well illustrated with his comment #44. There are more and more of those kind of attacks. I am here to give the supporters of other candidates opportunity to tell me why I should change my mind at a last minute.
But rather, I am finding myself coming here less often this past month. If I do stop coming here, I want to thank you for providing us with the “public square” to learn what the candidates are about. Thank you again, and hope to see your contributions in the political arena in the future!
[...] untrue, delineating the solid differences between himself and McCain. McCain responds with a personal attack ad calling Romney a phony. No substance on the issues, no answer to any of Romney’s points, just [...]
chuck, thank you. Yes, I do have my concerns with Mitt in that he is about fixing the government rather than reducing it. I would like to see our federal government greatly reduced — reduce to the point permitted only by the US Constitution. Ron Paul would be doing it except that I also am for step by step reduction, whereas he would take the immediate actions which also will have immediate consequences. The most obvious one is the US Legislatives we currently have, leading by Senator Reid and Speaker Pelois. They will not give up their pet projects. Fred Thompson actually is more aligned with my ideology, except that he does not have the passion for this job. Rudy is too authoritarious and secretive. McCain? He’s about pandering to the side across the asile.
For me, Mitt really is the best man, as he will fix the problems in our government, and I believe he has every intention to consolidate many government programs, the first step in reducing the size of our government. I am not sure he can carry us on beyond this step. This is my only concern with him. That is why I am hoping for Mitt/Fred — Mitt to clean up our government, and then Fred to actually deallocate authorities among states.
I have viewed and re-viewed and re-viewed this ad including pausing it to read the editorial from the LIBERAL Concord Monitor. McRino’s comment that “Romney is such a candidate” i.e. phony is not written in the article. This is a blatant character attack. Say what you will about Gov. Romney (Metro, TLG, UA, etc) but none of his ads have attacked a person personally. The vitriol McRino has towards Gov Romney personally is showing in this ad.
UA (and other supporters of the huckster): this IS an attack ad, fyi.
Who here claiming Mitt is a phony has looked him in the eye and asked him hard questions?
. . . .
. . . .
Well, I have and I wouldn’t support anyone who was a phony.
Mitt is not a phony and I can personally testify of that. Look who’s endorsed the man! More federal legislators than all these guys (McCain included) that have been working the halls of DC for decades!
But I guess you guys are taking a page from the common mantra of “repeat a lie often enough and it is perceived as truth”
You’re probably the same people that are convinced that Romney has “flip-flopped” his positions on guns and gay-rights too. That is a lie that the media and Romney opponents have repeated enough that they’ve convinced themselves that it’s true.
December 28th, 2007 at 5:49 pm
Now John is on the McAttack here and even rips off Mitt’s ad style. For NH, the choice is clear.. bye bye John
December 28th, 2007 at 5:52 pm
Now McRino is saying vote for me because liberals say i’m their candidate. Sweet.
December 28th, 2007 at 5:52 pm

December 28th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
It’s legitimate. That’s what makes it so great.
December 28th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
Romney is a phony! Well said Senator McCain!
December 28th, 2007 at 5:54 pm

Romney will draw blood with his ad. McCain may have to mortgage his house to keep that one on the air.
December 28th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Romney is a phony!
Yes! He is. Alright! Go McCain, bring down that phony in New Hampshire!
December 28th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
