    Thanks, Aron. :)

  2. Eric Dondero Says:

Could Giuliani go Independent? Or maybe even Libertarian Party?

If a Social Conservative manages to gain the GOP nomination, I think you’ll see a major push for Rudy to go Indy.

Moderates in the GOP, and the libertarian wing would be left out in the cold with a Huckabee candidacy. Huckabee has no ties to either wing. And he shows now signs at all of reaching out to either.

Imagine if the Moderate Republicans aligned with the smaller libertarian wing of the GOP to back Giuliani running as an Independent?

One of our Senior Editors at Libertarian Republican Blog poses that question today up at http://www.libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com

With Romney, or Fred Thompson as the GOP nominee, libertarians stay solid with the Republican Party.

With Huckabee, 99% of us will leave.

Always remember Social Conservatives: We have someplace to go. The Libertarian Party has consistently had 46 to 50 state ballot access in Presidential elections since 1984.

And even if Rudy were to run as an Independent, libertarians are experts at ballot access, and could help him garner near 50 state ballot status as an Indy.

Let’s avoid this. Let’s maintain Party unity. Let’s nominate a Fiscal Con for President:

    Rudy, Fred, or Mitt.

Anyone else could spell disaster for GOP Party unity in ‘08!

First off, I like your site. Nice job.

As for your interesting “Indy Rudy” theory. . .

I seriously doubt Rudy everdruns on a third party platform. I can’t see him ever abandoning the GOP for any reason. Even on the miniscule chance that he dis, he’d lose by a landslide. A significant number of Dems would have to bolt their party to vote for him, and I just don’t see that ever happening, whether Hillary or Obama wins the nomination. Maybe, possibly, if Edwards is their nominee, but even then it’s highly doubtful Rudy would come out of a three-way race the winner. And although I like the guy, Rudy’s just not the commanding political figure needed to successfully split the party on ideological lines. (If Teddy Roosevelt couldn’t do it, no one can!)

Another point – If moderate and liberal Republicans were to leave the GOP and its Huck nomination, I don’t think they would subsequently migrate to the LP. I think there are too many issues (pro-drug legalization, non-interventionism and anti-foreign aid, pro-gay marriage, basic abandonment of all gun control laws) which the so-called moderate segment of the voting population could not support. Now I realize Libertarians aren’t necessarilly in favor of abortion, gay marriage, unlimited gun rights, etc, but rather they are against any government regulation or encroachment of individual rights. Still, I don’t see enough moderate Republicans going along with that philosophy. For the most part, moderate voters are pro-choice with restrictions, are split on the war but still support an active foreign policy, and favor some gun control concerning automatic and semi automatic weapons. When you factor in the number of Dems needed for that New Libertarian Party to actually succeed, it becomes much more evident that this effort would never get off the ground.

I’m not a SoCon by any means, and I would probably classify myself as a moderate libertarian (if there is such a thing). But as much as I dislike the idea of a Huck-led GOP ticket, I would sooner vote for him than contribute to the possibility of a Democratic president serving with a Democratic Congress. I believe that’s the message Huck would put forth in the general, and I suspect most moderate and many liberal Republicans would feel the same way.

  5. FCOH Says:

I just watched the “Romney responds angrily to McCain ad” video. So now if Mitt is assertive in his responses, he’s characterized as ‘angry’. Yet another underhanded effort by the MSM to prop up McCain who really is angry, but by deflecting some of that attention to Mitt, it makes McCain more tolerable. Ok – sure.

Lots of crow will be eaten in a few weeks

  6. spunky Says:

IF you’re a homeschooler and supporting Huckabee because of the Homeschool Legal Defense Association Political Action Committee endorsement you might want to read what Ned Ryun has to say.

Ryun was the director of HSLDA-PAC and was NOT even told of the endorsement until after the fact.

So even within HSDLA there was not a consensus on who was best for homeschoolers.

Ned Ryun has now left HSDLA and is offering his insights.

You can read the details at my blog. For people not associated with conservative Christian homeschooling this may seem like nothing big, but within homeschooling it is startling information.

    Good morning, desperate Huckabee haters.

    Paul

    Eric,

Please go. All of you libetarians can go. It won’t bother us a bit.

  11. SGS Says:

Spunky, you may be interested in this, as written by Joseph Farah, the founder and editor of WorldNet Daily. He also is a homeschooler, and in this article, which he specifically addressed to all homeschoolers, he warns them that Huckabee may not be as for homeschoolers as they have been told.

  12. SGS Says:

Hey Aron, I think you may be interested in this blog at American Thinker, where the respond on Bhutto assassination from each candidate from both sides are graded. Here it is

  13. Aron Goldman Says:

    SGS,

Thanks, but it was already posted in the general news section (where it’s about the 30th story listed).

  14. spunky Says:

    Thanks #11 SGS,

I have read the Farah piece. He recently came out for Hunter. I admire his principled stand and not bowing to the whim of “electability.”

His warning along with the warnings of other prominient homeschoolers are changing the minds of many homeschoolers. Huckabee hustled homeschoolers in Arkansas and he’ll there’s no reason to believe he won’t do it again if he makes it to the White House.

Homeschoolers are NOT solidly behind Huckabee as the media and Huckabee want everyone to believe. they are trying to create a bandwagon effect and its not working.

  15. Eric Dondero Says:

Sorry Paul, I ain’t going nowhere. I’m a proud Republican, have been one for 20 years.

Even if Huckabee were to magically win the nomination, while I’d vote Libertarian for the top of the ticket, I’d support Republicans on the rest of the ballot.

  16. Eric Dondero Says:

    Alaska Jake,

Moderate libertarians? Yes, we do exist.

    http://www.mainstreamlibertarian.com

And we’re big Sarah Palin fans! She’s the ultimate moderate libertarian.
