Whose Behind the Big Scandal on the Horizon? (if there really is one?)

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Darryl Toor, the publicist:

A former CBS journalist, Daryl Toor, APR, is both CEO & Chief Awareness Officer of Attention and MercuryMessages™, a strategic e-mail marketing service consultancy and distribution provider. He is the author of “Get The Word Out! – Marketing to Attract New Business”, and is a recognized expert on marketing, public relations,Investor relations, e-mail marketing, search engine optimization and sales lead management.

A frequent contributor to ABC News, CNN Headline News, Forbes, Fox News, NBC News, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, People, Rolling Stone, TIME, USA Today, and Wired magazine, Toor brings more than 20 years of experience to help companies get the word out.

As Sony/Ericsson’s marketing director, Toor increased market share 28% and created the global telecommunication giant’s first e-commerce initiative on the Web. While directing healthcare marketing for Trion – the leader in healthcare, industrial and residential indoor air quality technology applications – Toor designed revenue generating marketing programs for Honeywell, Sunbeam, Kenmore and Oreck.

As vice president of public relations for one of Atlanta’s largest agencies he was responsible for building its $1.2 million PR division. Toor was also the principal spokespeople for Atlanta leading up to both SuperBowl XXVIII and the 1996 Olympic Games and co-founded the Southern International Press Center. A recipient of an Emmy as well as both PRSA Silver and Bronze Anvil Awards, IABC Golden Quill communication awards, his work was nationally recognized for building what is today the nation’s largest cruise line — Carnival Cruise Lines — and his promotion of the Miami Beach’s Art Deco Festival attracted national attention that led to the production of the popular TV show, “Miami Vice.” In addition, he launched the Internet’s most popular online lotto with a marketing campaign that innovatingly used one of the first reality show stars.

In addition, he designed marketing programs for clients such as Macintosh, WebMD, Rent.com, Wolff System Technology, the Port of Miami, the City of Miami Beach, City of Miami, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, Precyse Solutions, Fitability Systems, VistaScape Technology, Foodbuy.com, Call Center Technologies,, Medicalbuyer.com, CIMTEK Commerce, HIDAHELP, DistributORDER, Avio, MonsterMillions, The Viva Group, Fiberworks, Thoughtmill, Recoverdebt, Globalmecca.com, and Safedepositbox.

And don’t ask me whose involved yet… I have heard so many different theories my head is exploding.

UPDATE: Joe Carter did not mean to insinuate that Monday’s press conference will have to do with a Mitt Romney scandal. How many scandals are there about to break now? Here’s the email Carter sent out:

1. I don’t know anything about Monday press conference other than the PR email I got on it. I have no idea whether it is about Romney or some other candidate.

2. None of what I know was acquired through my connections to the campaign. The stuff I found out (whether its true or not) came through my sources as a blogger.

3. I don’t know if the Huckabee campaign knows about this stuff or not (though, I doubt they do).

UPDATE:
For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, here is a link

  1. RayinNH Says:

Tommy – what exactly is this post supposed to be about? Who do you think pulled the “FDT is broke” stunt this morning? I hope your guy finishes 3rd tonight.

  2. LaJ Says:

The scandal is that Mitt and Huck are in bed together to be on the same ticket.

  3. UA Says:

    ?confused

  4. UA Says:

#2 if that is true, huckabee will lose a lot of support.

  5. Tommy Oliver Says:

This post is about who is pushing the whole scandal. That’s the guy…

Can’t say with any certainty who pulled the FDT stunt this morning…

    Thanks!

  6. UA Says:

I have no idea what you are talking about – any links???

  7. Falz Says:

The Rinos (McCain & Huckabee) are that desperate?

  8. cwpete Says:

I think that if this was about Romney or Huckabee, assuming that it is really about anything to begin with, It would have been released by now.

  9. LaJ Says:

    UA -

I worked on the Huckabee campaign. I know it is true. However, they are trying to keep it tight lipped for as long as possible and then break it at the right moment. Why else didn’t Huckabee go after Mitt with his 150K worth of negative ads?

  10. SDGOP Says:

Cute, a bunch of hucksters talking about a ’scandal’ on the horizon for romney. If there was anything legitimate, it would have come out in ‘96 or ‘02. You really are an amusing lot, you scream Romney is being negative/etc., yet at the same time run around peddling anti mormon themes and rumors.

  11. Erik Says:

Who ever this is against it is BS to pull it. I think that it will have he opposite effect that it is intended to damage.

  12. Tommy Oliver Says:

John Hawkins has more on it, but I’m not sure he’s barking up the right tree.

    Erik,
If it is what Hawkins thinks, then it would be their fault because they haven’t released the results, but I stuill am not sold that he is right so I’m not going to link to it and start another war here on the night of the IA caucus.

  13. Jared Says:

My guess is that it is probably some Huckabee 527 that will allege Romney push-polled himself, in an effort to try and smear Romney again. All the while Huckabee’s supporters have been push-polling the hell out of other campaigns, and Huckabee has the cute answer, “I wish they would stop, I just can’t seem to make them though.” This is all getting way too ridiculous, and frankly is turning me off to the whole political process to see a good man smeared by someone who I thought was a good man initially, but is proving himself otherwise. Sad.

  14. Jared Says:

#11 – I agree. I think that it will actually help the candidate(s) that it is meant to hurt.

  15. ilfigo Says:

LaJ…if true, why not Huck pull out sooner?

  16. MetroRepublican Says:

Speaking of push-polling, the Atty Gen of NH finally speaks about the Western Wats anti-Mormon polling:

    http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ODhhMDRkM2VkNzMzYzQ0ODA2ZmJlYzc5NmVkZWFlZWI=

  17. barnes Says:

Can this be related to the NYT scandal that was suppost to be printed on McCain. Looks like there are at least two different so called scandals the people are getting confused with thanks to Joe Carter

  18. ThatLibertarianGuy Says:

IT’S *WHO’S* BEHIND. WHO’S as in WHO IS.

    Not WHOSE.

  19. LaJ Says:

It makes sense for Huck to be in it for Iowa to make Iowa an actual contest. Otherwise, it was just another one to write off like the Straw Poll was.

Plus, if Huckabee can get good coverage he will be a known celebrity to conservatives who are just tuning into the election now. Huckabee will get out right before SC once the 2 other conservatives drop out (Thompson & Hunter).

  20. joe c Says:

the scandal is that Mike Huckabee has been caught with both a dead woman and a live boy. At the same time!

  21. UA Says:

i just googled John Hawkins. His blog is about the push polling.

  22. ilfigo Says:

    So would it be Romney/Huck?

  23. UA Says:

    #20 grow up

  24. Erik Says:

    Tommy,

If you are referring to the push polling I have a hard time believing this would be it. The original quote says talks about the author knowing the person since college, etc. I really doubt that it will be the push polling. Plus I have a very hard time thinking that Romney had anything to do with it. I just don’t think he could be that stupid.

  25. ilfigo Says:

    http://www.rightwingnews.com/

The rumor is that the scandal is a PAC supporting Mitt was behind the push polling…

Not sure how this will play out…

Will people assume that Mitt made the decision (seems unlikely that he would)
Also, will MSM remember (if this is true) that people in other campaigns have done deplorable things and not once was the candidate blamed!

    Thoughts?

  26. UA Says:

surely Romney is smarter than this

  27. UA Says:

if it is a supporter of Romney, and Romney had no knowledge of it, why would he be to blame?

  28. ilfigo Says:

Romney is…but supporters are not always!

    Hopefully Mitt doesn’t get blamed

  29. LaJ Says:

    It’s Common Sense PAC

  30. ilfigo Says:

Why wouldn’t MSM blame him, esp. if it is the day before the NH Primary…

Another way for MSM to spread the story and push support to their new boy JMac

  31. MetroRepublican Says:

LaJ, Commonwealth PAC, not Common Sense.

UA, why would Mitt be to blame? Well, he disbanded his PAC in question AFTER the push-polling story broke, and he said to allege it was someone connected to his campaign was as legitimate as saying the US Govt had something to do with 9-11. That really raises the stakes.

  32. joe c Says:

#23 – I was referring to the old political adage about the only two things that can your campaign are being caught with a dead woman (although not in ted kennedy’s case ) or a live boy . in any event, i was just trying to lighten things up.

  33. Tommy Oliver Says:

    Erik,
I said I disagreed with John Hawkins. I don’t think the push poll is involved in this in any way.

  34. barnes Says:

Doesn’t the link from #16 prove that the rumor of Romney’s PAC is unfounded since the NH AG is at a road block.

  35. MetroRepublican Says:

What’s great is that this scandal is probably not even necessary for Mitt’s political death, which is likely to happen within a week anyway. This is just icing on the cake. To be had with champagne.

  36. Jared Says:

I don’t think it is either based on the link Metro posted. The NH AG is still trying to investigate it from the sounds of it. Even if it were about the push-polling, and it was done by a PAC, couldn’t Romney just use the same excuse Huck has used regarding 527’s push-polling for his benefit? “I wish they would stop, but I can’t get them to.”

  37. ilfigo Says:

    Metro…

Is the PAC “connected to his campaign” enough to blame the candidate?

Then could any PAC that gives money to a candidate be blamed for their actions?

  38. Jared Says:

#35 – Who eats cake with champagne? Is that the trend in Bel-air now? ;)

  39. LaJ Says:

    3 hours to go.

  40. ilfigo Says:

Yeah unsure why this man has info, yet the NH AG does not have any?

  41. MetroRepublican Says:

ilfigo, Mitt Romney controlled the Commonwealth PAC. It was HIS PAC. Until he dissolved it right after the Western Wats story broke.

  42. Tommy Oliver Says:

If the PAC was indeed behind the push polling, then yes, Romney would be responsible if you look at the PAC’s history and who runs it and how it was formed. Remember, It was a Romney official who resigned to run the PAC for him, and if the PAC was behind it, Romney would’ve likely known about it in about 30 minutes. Therefore, by calling a fake investigation into it, then he’d be guilty.

However, I don’t think this has anything to do with the push polling.

  43. Jared Says:

Of course I don’t drink, so I wouldn’t know either way. LOL. Just sounds gross. Just ribbing ya Metro. :)

  44. UA Says:

so, who else (except for me) is missing out tonight? I have to work, damn.

  45. Erik Says:

    #33 Tommy,

Understand. I don’t know who it is against but I always have hated the last minute bomb that people hold on to for the purpose of destroying a campaign. I don’t just say this because it could be against Romney. I say the same if it is against anyone of the candidates.

    #35 Metro,

What are you going to do with your life when Rudy gets smoked?

  46. joe c Says:

i wont believe anything till i see it. this cycle has been too crazy already. im sure each of the campaigns are looking to put out “huge scandal breaking soon!” stories right before the caucus, only to have the stories never materialize.

  47. MetroRepublican Says:

Jared, champagne and cake is how many a wedding is celebrated.

  48. MetroRepublican Says:

Erik, when Clinton was President I watched and read zero news. I didn’t know for a long time we were in a military conflict.

If Republicans are too stupid to nominate Rudy, I will pay zero attention to politics once again.

  49. barnes Says:

Please help me understand. The NH AG says Moore-Information, Inc from Oregon is reponsible and that is as far they can go without the public’s help. Where is the missing link to Romney PAC? Did the AG not get the rumor yet?

  50. ilfigo Says:

    Metro and Tommy…

I know that Mitt started the PAC, but I didn’t think that he had any control of it afterwards, no?

Just because a Romney official ran it, does not mean that Mitt had control and knowledge? If such thinking is true, did Bush know about the CIA leak info. (It was an Executive official)?

Also, what about the other deplorable acts committed by people directly connected with the campaign and nothing happens.

Only “real” harm would be if Mitt ordered the push polling and then lied!

  51. Erik Says:

    Metro,

Get ready to do just that. Rudy isn’t going to win. Sorry.

  52. UA Says:

wouldn’t it be something if Ron Paul was actually behind all this. Not saying that he is, but interesting anyway.

  53. joe c Says:

Metro – should we be paying any attention to the Intrade primary predictions? they seem to be all over the place and responding to news rather than predicting it. Also, why hasnt the volume of contracts gone up? dont people want to invest in the primaries?

  54. MetroRepublican Says:

joe c, the volume is in the nomination contract, which is affected by all the other states.

  55. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

    Joe #53,

Metro can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the markets were frozen today.

  56. Tommy Oliver Says:

    Erik,
For example, let’s say that Monday’s news conference has to deal with the New Hampshire investigation into the push polling. Then, I would have no sympathy for whoever it turned out to be because the word is that whoever was behind it has put legal pressure on the office to prevent it from releasing the actual results before the NH primary (and I honestly don’t know who was behind it).

I heard the rumors, but that could be nothing more than junk. If someone tried to suppress the results from being released, then I would have no sympathy.

    (THIS IS ALL HYPOTHETICAL)

  57. MetroRepublican Says:

No, the markets are still open and moving.

  58. murphy Says:

PACs are separate entities and independent of the campaign and in fact forbidden by law from coordinating activities. And on top of that, the PAC in question here had exactly one employee and a secretary at the time of the WW push poll scandal.

    This ain’t the alleged scandal.

  59. MetroRepublican Says:

murphy, I believe the PAC had one employee AFTER Mitt shut it down AFTER the Western Wats story broke.

  60. MetroRepublican Says:

It doesn’t matter, Mitt is probably dead without this story.

  61. ilfigo Says:

TO…do the rumors say who is trying to suppress the results?

  62. Tommy Oliver Says:

    ilfigo,
I’m not accusing Mitt of being behind it. I am speaking in a hypothetical case. I’m not saying they are behind it. Anybody could’ve been behind it, but I was explaining how it would effect Romney IF his PAC was behind it and they covered it up. I AM NOT ACCUSING HIM OF IT.

  63. Tommy Oliver Says:

    ilfigo,
All I know is that the rumors are that somebody doesn’t want the results out there. I don’t post accusations until I know who it is.

  64. LaJ Says:

maybe the story is re: the illegal activities the Huckabee administration was involved with when they ruined the computers they used which had very sensitive political information.

  65. LaJ Says:

maybe the story is re: the illegal activities the Huckabee administration was involved with when they ruined the computers they used which had very sensitive political information.

  66. murphy Says:

    Metro,

Not only was the PAC reduced to one employee plus the secretary prior to WW, team Romney would be legally prohibited from shutting down the PAC.

  67. Jared Says:

This is all getting too crazy for my taste. I am going to go watch the tube, pop some popcorn, and let the Iowa chips fall where they may. At the end of the day, I know that I am doing my best to be a good husband and father, and whoever is elected, it won’t affect my ability to teach my family what I believe is right. Hell, if the IRS goes away, it makes my life a ton easier. Catch y’all on the flip-side. Go Mitt!!! :)

  68. Greg Says:

LaJ: Is this Mitt/Huckabee relationship just another conspiracy theory?

  69. Tommy Oliver Says:

And I don’t completely make up my mind until I’ve seen some sort of connection that proves something, and I haven’t yet.

  70. Colin Jones Says:

Metro, You missed a word in the last sentence in #48.

  71. Erik Says:

    Tommy,

With regard to sympathy my point didn’t include the push polling. That is a thing of it’s own and I would agree with your points there. I was referring to some long known scandal by the person releasing it, ex. a child out of wedlock. If that person had held on to it knowing that they would benefit by waiting until this time to release it then they should be the ones to go down. Pathetic move in my opinion.

  72. Tommy Oliver Says:

    LaJ,
Now there’s a theory that I hadn’t made any connection to. I should’ve thought of that.

  73. LaJ Says:

68 – no. I’m telling you that they are connected to each other and have been from the beginning.

  74. Tommy Oliver Says:

    Erik,
Very astute point. If true, then yes, I would not approve of its release. However, until I know what it is, I’m open to any ideas that may have taken years to gather proof that would stand in a court of law.

If it is an unfair hit used for nothing more than swaying an election, then yes it is wrong.

  75. ilfigo Says:

TO…I didn’t mean to think you were accusing Mitt. I know you are a good guy!

What are the rumors saying about who is trying to supress? Any link?

  76. murphy Says:

    Tommy #74,

What if it is a perfectly fair hit, factually true, previously unknown, and used for nothing more than swaying an election?

I like seeing that sort of thing come public during a campaign…but the day before a primary is lame.

  77. Eric Says:

    Metro,

How are you so sure of Mitt’s defeat?

  78. ilfigo Says:

    Metro…

Rudy is my Number 2, I just hope if he wins the nomination it is because of him and not because all of the other candidates have bombed.

  79. shiggz Says:

    http://www.mmdnewswire.com/huckbee-cmpigner-2738.html

Huckabee campaign member Jim Gilchrist… emails are released that threaten to malign another leader with false accusations of child molestation, pedophilia, embezzlement, and thievery!

hhhmmm Christian political exploitive opportunism like a strong breeze from the dark ages.

  80. Tommy Oliver Says:

    ilfigo,
I know that. I just wanted to make my point clear so no one would accuse me of doing so, which does happen on here from time to time.

Can’t elaborate any more on the rumors.

  81. ilfigo Says:

    No links? :)

  82. shiggz Says:

    http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2412/2160502524_5ffc010128_o.jpg

here read it in all its glory. Huckabee you and your supporters are an inspiration to us all.

  83. Tommy Oliver Says:

    murphy,
It is lame. I don’t think it is right for it to be aired just before the voting. But, it is better to get it out in the open before than after, in all cases so there is no looking back.

  84. Tommy Oliver Says:

    shiggz,
    What is that???

  85. Tommy Oliver Says:

    ilfigo,
    The latest.

    http://www.redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/who_hired_moore_information

  86. Erik Says:

    #82 what was that?

  87. UA Says:

#88 – was it the judge tahat decided not to hear the case until after the primary?

  88. Greg Says:

What kind of man is this Jim Gilchrist, and why would Huck not denounce him immediately? This is awful and immature.

  89. Erik Says:

    Tommy,

    #84, #86 Jinx! :)

  90. shiggz Says:

see 79 , this is jim gilchrist huckabees left hand man,, or right hand man, which one is chuck norris on? i cant keep track of this christo-macho sausage fest of his.

  91. Erik Says:

    #90 who is “Brooks”?

  92. barnes Says:

I have a feeling Joe Carter may come to regret his diatribe against Romney.

  93. FCOH Says:

shiggz – why are you surprised by any of this? Do you really think that Huckabee accepted Gilchrist’s endorsement without first teaching him a few tricks of the trade?

Huckabee is the master of subtle innuendo and plausable deniability – exactly what you see demonstrated there in that email by Gilchrist.

Goodness people – Gilchrist didn’t actually say any of those dirty rotten things and he certainly didn’t accuse Brooks of such dispicable actions. He just pondered on how circumstances could be different, but I just don’t see how this hurts Huckabee. People should rally around Huckabee simply because he’s able to see the goodness in Gilchrist – no matter what’s going on in Gilchrist’s head, Huckabee knows his heart and he’s a good person.

  94. UA Says:

since it is NH, my bet would be that it has to be against Romney.

  95. ilfigo Says:

UA could it not also be against McCain, esp. since he is surging there

  96. ilfigo Says:

Maybe it will be the private documents of Charles Keating which speaks of money going to McCain and McCain’s numerous trips to Keating’s home in the bahamas…and that then McCain trying to influence regulators to not go after Keating.

Here is our ethical candidate who wants to change Washington…Didn’t McCain say scandals destroyed the GOP in 2006, why should we nominate this scandalous person!

  97. LaJ Says:

Huckabee is sick not to distance himself immediately!

  98. LaJ Says:

ilfigo – maybe it is the exact amount of $$$ Romney made by promoting sick PORN in his Mormon hotel chain?

  99. Brett Passmore Says:

#97, this just came out today – this afternoon, how do you know that he hasnt? i havent heard either way yet..

  100. ilfigo Says:

Could be…I guess the scandal didn’t get much traction the first time! :)

Actually Romney’s money from being on the Board was not tied to how much money the Hotel got from PORN.

If that is such a problem…we should look into the stocks of all candidates to see whether they ever made money from companies that do/promote bad things! Deal?

  101. UA Says:

    #95 – very true.

  102. LaJ Says:

Has anyone heard rumors that Huckabee fired a gay staffer recently?

  103. econ grad stud Says:

    #102

    So what?
Is it illegal to fire staffers unless they’re straight?

  104. PnGrata Says:

I worry about this Moore-Information group. It’s client list is exclusively Western, but nothing in AZ or AR….

  105. PnGrata Says:

but I doubt the poll thing is what the Monday announcement is about. That doesn’t strike me as book material. I again think that’s a marketing gimmick for an anti-Mormon book. Carter’s supposed dirt seems like it might gave a more direct impact.

  106. BarkTwiggs Says:

    LaJ,

Why would a gay staffer be working for Mr ‘Quarantine’ anyhow, that’s the real story (if there was one)?

  107. Erik Says:

Here is what the Romney camp released today in response to the tool McCain. I don’t think the Romney camp would dig thier heels in like this if there was any chance they were involved. McCain is a dirty old bastard!
