Rasmussen New Hampshire GOP Primary, conducted January 4th, 2008
- John McCain 31% (27%)
- Mitt Romney 26% (31%)
- Ron Paul 14% (7%)
- Mike Huckabee 11% (11%)
- Rudy Giuliani 8% (13%)
- Fred Thompson 5% (3%)
I think the story here is that Ron Paul doubled his support in 2 weeks. That’s impressive.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Zogby gives Paul only 7%. Rasmussen also inflated Huck’s numbers to 14 one month ago when every other poll showed him in single digits.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
LJ - I agree with you, that even with our guys 1 & 2 that the Paul upward swing is the story. I don’t see this movement in Zogby, though, so we’ll have to wait and see how the averages start playing out.
It seems that most of Paul’s support has come from Rudy. We’ll see what happens with Rudy reversing course on NH and spending a lot of time here and he certainly never cut back on his radio advertising.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Ron Paul’s rise is simply amazing. I’m not sure he’ll do anything outside of NH though.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Ron Paul will play well in Michigan too.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Could you update this with the dates?
January 5th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Nevada could also be good to Ron Paul.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
This is post-Iowa, right?
January 5th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
NH is very fertile ground for RuPaul. We’ll see who he starts syphoning off support from.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
I predicted months ago that Paul would poll 15% in New Hampshire.
I would like to see more of an indication that Huck will get some kind of bounce. This is disappointing.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Poll was taken Jan. 4, according to RCP.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Ray,
I’m trying to fathom the type of voter that would leave Giuliani for Ron Paul. They are polar opposites in almost every way.
Kavon,
I definitely agree. I wonder what will happen if Paul ends up with 3rd in NH. Will the press actually take him seriously? I was amused at how the media collectively chose to barely even mention that he got 10% in Iowa.
ngthagg and Patrick,
I will update with all the relevant poll data once Rasmussen’s site comes back up. They’re servers are probably down due to the Drudge Bomb. But I’m guessing that the the poll was conducted yesterday.
January 5th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Drudge Bomb? I hadn’t heard. What’s that all about?
January 5th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Patrick,
He means once Drudge links to a site, the amount of traffic that generates “blows” up the site.. i.e. -The Drudge Bomb …
January 5th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Patrick,
Drudge posted the link to the poll on his website. everyone who reads that hit the rasmussen site and the traffic took down the site. Its called a drudge bomb because he directed the traffic there.
Actually, I am surprised that the Jmac lead is only 5%. Agree the other big part is Paul in 3rd. What does that say about Huck’s long term viability?
January 5th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
The dirty secret about Ron Paul is that he is taking the vast majority of independents who are not going to vote for Obama. It’s getting frustrating. I hope McCain pulls it off.
January 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Are people taken Rassmusen seriously?.
January 5th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Ray,
“NH is very fertile ground for RuPaul. We’ll see who he starts syphoning off support from.”
I’d say at least half of Paul’s supporters wouldn’t be voting if he weren’t in the race. So I don’t think he hurts anyone in particular that badly.

13, 14: Thanks.

No, they’re not “polar opposites.” I happen to very much like Giuliani and Paul. Try to position yourself in the place of a voter that prioritizes free market economics and a small federal government.

That’s a very astute observation.

We must stop the Lesbi… Low back tattoos! This is a brilliant idea. Romney will definitely put that in his next speech about God on the quarter.
