I’m truly in mourning for Fred. He’s a man of tremendous character who – with the possible exception of Ron Paul – is the only Republican with any actual intellectual heft. He would have been a great articulator of conservative principles. He just missed his window, and Huckabee, Romney, and McCain capitalized on it. I’d really love to see FDT in the VP slot on a McCain/Thompson ticket. Those guys would kick the s**t out of any two Dems in a debate.
The flinty voters of NH love their retail politics, and there will be hell to pay for the candidate who misses breakfast at Flo’s Diner on main, and doesn’t do coffee in everyone’s palor at least twice before the primary date.
