Im not into Florida politics, but this cant be good for Fred…
Stemberger jumps from Fred to Huckabee
The Huckabee campaign is touting a high-profile defection from Fred Thompson’s camp. “John Stemberger, a leading voice in the conservative movement of Florida has switched his personal endorsement in the race for the Republican presidential nomination …, ” a news release boasts. Stemberger will co-chair Huckabee’s “Faith and Family Values Coalition for Florida.”“Gov. Huckabee is without question the best candidate to breathe new life and fresh hope into a nation and its people who are fed up with scandal, corruption and big-money power politics. Mike Huckabee is a proven leader with executive experience and a solid record as a champion for pro-life and pro-family values, Stemberger said. “As a result, he has won the trust of more social conservative leaders across America than any other candidate. He has also proven that he is a viable candidate who can take us all the way home by winning both the primary and the general elections.”
In September, back when Thompson was still considered a heavyweight for the GOP nominee, Stemberger told the Times: “If Fred Thompson were not in the race, Huckabee would look great. Thompson takes a lot of air out of his campaign.”

He lost me at
“fed up with scandal, corruption and big-money power politics”
This is one of Huckabee’s biggest liabilities…Taking gifts, letting people off the hook he shouldn’t, and trying to cover up his son’s wrongdoings.

Good one Fran, that’s what most who read that line think.
I notice he said back in September,
“Thompson takes a lot of air out of his(Huckster’s) campaign.â€
I guess a lot of that air went into Stemberger’s head and he’s now looking to give it back?

Thinking people.
This is difinitly not a conservative mind set in here.
How can you be a true conservatives and vote for McCain, Romney and Rudy?
January 14th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Yeah, nobody who thought for themselves would ever vote for McCain. They would just go along with what Rush says…

How can anyone call themselves a conservative and vote for the huckster??

I’m in FL; this is a great sign of strength for Huck. Stemberger is a well known Orlando socon who has headed up the drive for the FL marriage amendment. It’s looking like a lot of prominent FL socons will be staying behind Huck even if he gets 2nd in SC. I think Huck must win SC to have any hope at the nomination, but I expect Huck to do well in FL regardless.

Thompson unlike Huckabee knows the difference between the role of a Christian and the role of government,
Here’s what Thompson said recently,
““Christ didn’t tell us to go to the government and pass a bill to get some of these social problems dealt with. He told us to do it,†Thompson said.
“The government has its role, but we need to keep firmly in mind the role of the government, and the role of us as individuals and as Christians on the other.â€
Thompson’s view of limited government and generous citizens suits my philosophy much better.
Huckabee talks like a federalist to get elected, but governs like a statist once in office.
