Dr. Carolyn Gerster:
“John McCain is the most qualified candidate and has a consistent and principled pro-life record,” said Dr. Gerster. “He has spent his career standing up for human rights and he will continue to do so as president. John McCain will nominate judges who understand the sanctity of human life, and firmly believes that courts should not be legislating from the bench. John McCain has the conviction, strengths, and experience to serve as commander in chief from day one and that is why he has my vote.”
Ambinder, again.

Timely endorsement. If anything, it’s a day or two too late.
January 18th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Carolyn won’t stop the Huckwave sweeping through SC.
January 18th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
McCain has NEVER taken the floor to champion ANY pro-life causes.
Sure he has a politically expedient pro-life record, but all the real so-cons/pro-lifers in Washington know that he works against them behind the scenes.
This is a baffling endorsement IMO.

“But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.” John McCain, 1999.

Jeff,
Sure he has a politically expedient pro-life record
That a Romney supporter would call John McCain (!) expediently pro-life is enough to make my head explode. The sheer audacity of the claim is astounding.
January 18th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
#2 Do Huckabee supporters really think Huckabee will win South Carolina. I mean I don’t know who will win for sure, but what are the Huckabee supporters saying?
January 18th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Argamenon,
Surely you don’t want me to start bringing out the dozens of statements where Romney not only vehemently defended being pro-choice, but he demonized pro-lifers.
January 18th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
She’s from AZ and goes way back. Why is anyone surprised by this ‘pickup’ for McCain?
January 18th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
To all Romney and Rudy supporters:
Vote Huckabee tomorrow in South Carolina. http://flapsblog.com/?p=6324
A vote for Huckabee to defeat McCain is a vote for Romney and Rudy.
Deny McCain any momentum.
Spread the word……..

#5 LJ - agreed
January 18th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
The Huck supporters will say they had to win if they do win, they will say they were trying for second if they finish second, and trying for third if he is third.
Just spin, no truth, no thought no substance. That is Huck the deciever.
January 18th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Flap - It is more dangerous to Romney for Huck to have momentum going into Florida than for McCain to have momentum going into FL.
January 18th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Okay, LJ, let’s see those “dozens” of quotes where Romney “… not only vehemently defended being pro-choice, but he demonized pro-lifers.”
That would require at least 24 of them, every single one of them “vehemently” defending pro-choice AND “demonizing” pro-lifers.
I am most curious to see them.
January 18th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
LJ (5) and #10,
The criticism stands no matter who it comes from.
Do you think Mccain is a pro-life “crusader”?
Santorum and others sure know he’s not.
All politicians do politically expedient things, but it looks like this Carolyn is doing the politically expedient thing as well.
January 18th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Romney supporters . . . VOTE FOR ROMNEY!
Hope that clears up any confusion.
And Flap . . . why shouldn’t Fred supporters vote for Huckabee like Rudy and Romney supporters should?
There’s something off with your analysis.
January 18th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Everyone knows I am a Rombot. But, John McCain has been a consistent pro-life voter while in the legislature. This is one of the few things where McCain is conservative. Now, what goes on in the cloak room I can’t speak to. I will look at his voting record and take it at face value.
January 18th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Meanwhile, the endorsements of Steve Forbes and Ted Olson have no significance at all. Wow.

[...] I just read perhaps the greatest article dealing with Senator McCain’s pro-life voting record. I’ll post some highlights and encourage you to read the full article. I thought I would post it and mention that Dr. Carolyn Gerster, the Co-founder of National Right to life just endorsed Senator McCain. [source] [...]
