Geraghty reports that Fred Thompson’s mother is still in bad shape. He speculates that it is unlikely that Fred will be at the Thursday debate. His report is at odds with the Fox reports from yesterday on some of the facts, as it goes to show that none of the sources are sure about the future and what’s going on.
Here’s what we can be sure of:
1. We don’t know if Fred will be at the debate. The campaign has not confirmed, but his mother’s condition could likely keep him out Thursday if he had originally planned on being there.
2. The Fox report and the NRO report are at odds on whether FDT would consider a VP slot, and I don’t think either of them are sure what he’s going to do.
3. Both reports confirm my earlier post in that if he does not continue, then he will not endorse anyone in the near future. This makes sense to me. He wouldn’t cross his friend McCain by endorsing anyone else, but he won’t endorse him either, at this stage.

I’m regret to hear about his Mother, I pray she will get better and recover soon.

As of early this morning, Fox was still saying (through it’s lower screen ticker) that FDT could drop out as early as today, and wouldn’t be at Thursday’s debate.

Well, that’s good to hear that Fred won’t endorse McCain or anyone else, not because of it’s effect, but because it will show some integrity to his message and to his friendship.

Wow, I didn’t hear anything about this earlier. I’ll keep Fred Thompson and family in my prayers.

Our prayers for the Thompson family.

When will Alan Keyes drop out?.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:02 am
Falz,
He is speaking this Saturday in Chicago and is listed as a Presidential Candidate.

#6 haha Never. This is just an extended book publicity tour for Keyes, as well as a way to force a convention speech on the rest of us. With luck it will be scheduled sometime around 2:30 am long after the cameras are turned off.

I think you are right Tommy. I doubt Fred will endorse anybody if it were the case that he dropped out. I think that is the right move by him as well.

6 & 7,
Keyes is going to be in San Antonio this Thursday at the Knights of Columbus on Camp Bullis Rd. I’ve heard ads on the radio.

Thompson entered the race because he saw the current field of candidates lacking the necessary conservative character he and his backers thought a GOP candidate should have. Dropping out and endorsing one of those same candidates would be sort of odd in that context. I’m guessing he stays in the race, in a less active role, and plays kingmaker later on to whoever the last two remaining active candidates are.

Is the Thompson campaign making any kind of official announcement today?
I thought I read that somewhere.

[...] Tommy Oliver reacts to the reports and wonders whether his mother’s health not his intentions towards the race for President is what is affecting his reported, but unconfirmed, withdrawal from a Florida debate on Thursday. [...]

Why did Fred Thompson have to be such a late bloomer in his political life? ARG!

Dear Thompson family, I am keeping your family in my prayers and good wishes for your mother’s health. I, and hopefully all other Fred-heads, will continue with the mission of spreading your consertative message to the voters on your behalf, while you spend some quality family time in Tennessee. I have sent several emails already today and have even gotten a Hunter supporter over to our side and I will keep writing and calling for as long as it takes to see you in the White House! May God bless the United States of America!

I’m seeing some similarities between Thompson and Dean. Both got a big pop from the internet and then barely registered in the primaries. Maybe Thompson’s planning to make the congruence complete by going out for chairman of the RNC? Maybe his presence in the primary is just a way to advertise himself for that position.
It’s kind of funny that, in a way, one of the most significant figures in the 2008 Presidential election is Fred Thompson’s mom.
