Tomorrow nearly a dozen TN legislatures will be endorsing Romney at an event in Nashville. Scott Romney, Mitt’s older Brother, will be in attendance.
The Event will be at 1:20 pm.
Update: Thompson California Political Director endorses Romney. He is not taking a position with the campaign, but sent this email to his colleagues:
With the departure of Senator Thompson we as conservatives must focus on who is promoting those principles we hold dear and put aside any bias we have held in the past or hear in the main stream media. It is my belief and opinion that Governor Romney is the only candidate in the race that can carry that torch.
I have not accepted any position with any campaign. I offer you this assessment and ask that you join me in supporting Governor Romney as a fellow grass roots leader.
On Monday, January 22nd, we saw near 500 drop in the DOW and the week continued to show volatility in world markets. China has effectively manipulated the valuation of the dollar by mass liquidating US Treasuries. Our leaders have publically stated that we are either in or headed for a recession. Governor Romney is by far the best Presidential candidate on either side of the aisle who can address the economic perils ahead. He brings years of successful business Executive experience understanding a balance sheet. Some of the other candidates attribute their success political achievements. This is not difficult to do when the government can just raise taxes or print more money. We need someone who understands finances like you and me. That when the checking account is empty you stop writing checks.Governor Romney believes in the sanctity of family. He supports a constitutional amendment that defines marriage between one man and one woman. He also believes that Roe v. Wade should be overturned to protect the unborn. Many of you may have the same concerns I had in the past regarding Governor Romney’s prior stand on these issues. As a Christian, I do believe in second chances for those who see the errors of their ways. I believe Governor Romney realizes that his past statements were wrong and is working hard to make right the injustice being done against the unborn.
Would I prefer to have a consistent stand on one of the most crucial social issues we face? Yes. I ask that you look into yourself. Is there anyone of us that can honestly say they have never changed a position for the better when the facts were presented to us? I don’t think so.Governor Romney’s support has never wavered. He has outlined a plan to increase our military personnel and give them the weapons support they need to get the job done. A CEO knows how to let competent leaders do their job and Governor Romney will let the Generals and Field Commanders do their job without the political posturing we have seen in the past.
Finally, one last note for this endorsement. As grassroots activists we have seen the affects that McCain-Feingold has had on our ability to freely speak and support our candidates. Governor Romney has publically stated he wants to repeal that law and support the first amendment. The last thing we need is a candidate who thinks stifling the voice of the American people is a good thing and puts his name on it.
Please visit www.mittromney.com and look at the issues section. Make an informed and comprehensive decision.

Have there been any TN pols since Fred dropped out?

Jason. . . This wasn’t tonight’s big announcement from the Romney campaign, was it?
January 27th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Scott Romney; that’s a fellow we haven’t seen at all during this campaign. In fact, doesn’t Mitt have a few siblings? Are they estranged or something? Why haven’t they been as prominent as the rest of his family?
January 27th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Jason,
I think you meant “legislators.” FWIW
What happened to this “big” fund raising announcement from tonight?

Romney has one sister and one brother. They have both been involved in the campaign.

Go Mitt! This is HUGE!! My prediction Mitt wins by 3% on Tuesday.

On a topic not related to this, but discussed yesterday, about McCain’s attack on Governor Romney’s “timetable claim”. Thought you would like to know McCain too was in favor of the benchmarks. He said in an Arizona Daily Star article last January of 2007:
H/T to (and the above can be seen at this permalink) Evangelicals for Mitt

My comment #7 was for Jason himself. Sorry, I forgot to address you by your name.

SGS,
Just posted that above.
Ray,
Thanks. I don’t think so, let me call the person who was informing me.
Matthew,
Nearly every Romney event in Michigan has had Scott there, and I have seen him on TV sometimes behind Mitt at other things as well. They haven/t been prominent though. His sister was at a couple things in MI as well.

this is very bad for Rudy tho, I didn’t realize they already had a deal:
“Crist’s cancelled date with Rudy
Suffice it to say the that Rudy Giuliani folks are fuming over the surprise Crist endorsement tonight. After all, they remember when the deal had been set for Crist to jump aboard team Rudy. Nov. 18, to be precise, was set for a Charlie-Rudy fly-around. The Buzz is that Crist had even extracted a promise that he would be on Giuliani’s short list for running mates.
But imagine the pressure Crist felt from McCain, who surely reminded him that while Rudy and Mitt awaited the results of Gallagher vs. Crist, McCain jumped in and backed Crist. Crist sure kept this decision quiet, and by all account it really was a last minute one (though close Buzz readers caught the Giuliani/McCain shift).
But let’s face it, Crist and McCain are a natural fit and if McCain had not melted down last year this would have happened long ago. Romney, viewed by Crist allies as Tom Gallagher reincarnated, never had a shot at the governor’s nod.
What decided this for Crist? How about the 19th century poet William Ernest Henley and the 21st century columnist Bill Kristol. The Buzz is that this kind of blew Crist away”

Anyone from TN or very familiar with their politics?
Any idea who will win TN on Feb 5th?
January 27th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Matthew #3,
I can tell you from personal experience that Romney’s siblings have indeed been involved in the campaign. However, you’re right in that Romney’s wife and children have been far more prominent. Maybe they figured Mitt and his wife, plus 5 kids, plus 10 grandkids was enough for a photo op.

re: #12 and #3
Scott Romney does play an active part in the campaign. I have been to 4 campaign events and he was present, and I spoke to him, at all four. He actually addressed the whole group during 3 of those meetings. He spoke so well that my brothers came to the consensus that he should run for VP

Who is Thompson’s California Director? And who did he email that to?
January 28th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Wow! The Thompson California Director! That is impressive! I mean, when it comes to endorsements, you can’t get much bigger than, um, what is his name again, let me see here…. I don’t actually know. Do you, Jason? You forgot to mention it. I’m sure EVERYONE was wondering who would get the coveted endorsement of, um, this Thompson California Director guy, but maybe tell us his name again, just for completeness…
