Over the last few days, Huckabee has picked up the TNRL endorsement, and is currently campaigning here in my homestate. The state was pretty much sealed off until last week, so it will be interesting to see if any other candidates will try and stop him.
From WRCB (my hometown’s leading news channel):
Saturday morning party officials, elected officials and voters gathered in support of presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Supporters say the former Arkansas governor is the only remaining candidate with views resembling former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson’s. The people we talked with say they were surprised to learn what Huckabee had done for the state of Arkansas, and they were pleased with what they heard.
This is probably the heart of Thompson country, here in Hamilton County, which is Congressman Zach Wamp’s district and Senator Bob Corker’s hometown.

Tommy,
Did you not see the press release about those TN leaders endorsing Romney?

The majority of Fred’s TN support has shifted to Romney, and I would imagine that the votes in TN will follow to Romney.

Tommy, what’s your sense of what the voters of TN will ultimately do? Will they side with the remaining Southerner Huckabee? Or will they end up supporting Romney?

5:00 p.m. CT - Nashville, TN - Talk to Chuck Norris for a while, tell him how awesome he is. Suck on John McCain’s nipples for at least twenty minutes.

Jared,
I saw them and there were some strong pickups for Romney. He’s gotta come to the state though.
Emtee,
My gut tells me that if the election were held today, Mike Huckabee would likely win here in Tennessee. However, it’s impossible to say what the effect of Florida’s primary will have on the outcome.

I did a lot of business in TN during the mid 90’s and found it to be a state more like a border state than one of the deep south. I did not have occassion to talk politics but it was my impression that TN was more moderately conservative, which leads me to believe Huckabee can’t win there.

Hucka-who? Never heard of the guy…Is he on TV or something?

That’s a laugher!!! The Huckster’s views are nothing like Fred Thompson’s except social issues. Fred was honest, Huckster is a bigot and liar. The Huckster is only in to win for McCain. Once the people know that, they will go to Mitt in a minute, with a chef’s touch in it!

Mitt is full of shite. Fascades crumble and the truth will prevail!

Axel,
East Tennessee is one of the most conservative regions in the country.
Illinoisguy,
Hamilton County is considered to be “The Buckle of the Bible Belt” or the Capital of the Religious Right. You have to put their opinions in that context.

#8 shut up man-
you are talking out of your arse.

Huckabee has the advantage in TN because he’s the only guy campaigning there. And even after Florida he still might be the only one in the state because everybody else is going to focus on bigger states while Huck just stays in the South. He could definitely win TN.
