My wife nicely characterized McCain thus: “He reminds me of Dr. Leo Marvin in What About Bob. I had to laugh.

  2. sam Says:

    lol!

  3. Tommy Oliver Says:

    Sam,
For real? I was comparing Leo Marvin to Mitt in his sledding video. When Mitt was teaching his grandson something, I just thought about Marvin trying to teach his kid to dive.

  4. Axel G. (independent) Says:

That was clever Tommy. And true to form, just as I have no idea why Citizen Kane is considered the best picture of all time I have no idea why some people think Romney is the best candidate.

  5. joe c. Says:

great post. don’t forget obama in “white men can’t jump” and hillary in “whatever it takes”

  6. joe c. Says:

mitt really has gotten under mccain’s skin a la what about bob. I dont get old movies. everyone said casablanca was the best, so i watched it, and … it wasnt that good. i have had the same experience with every other “great” and “classic” film. call me a hater, but im just not into old movies.

  7. Yogi Says:

    Tommy: Bravo!

  8. Tommy Oliver Says:

    joe c,
I’m exactly the opposite. I am a huge fan of Bogart, Mitchum, and Welles. DeNiro’s my favorite though.

    I love the classics.

  9. Matthias Says:

I see the Academy has made five lovely selections this year.

  10. Tommy Oliver Says:

    Also, love Leone westerns.

    Thanks!

  11. Henry Heavner Says:

    Equal opportunity insults.

    Yes!

  12. Henry Heavner Says:

The Romney-Rosebud ticket will glide to the nomination!

  13. Yogi Says:

Thats right, we need more Republican representation in Hollywood!

Any candidate fit the description of the fidler guy in Deliverance?

More war movies, less nudity (ouch). lol

  14. joe c. Says:

best films ever according to me:
    1. Shawshank Redemption
    2. Empire Strikes Back
    3. Lord of the Rings: Two Towers
    4. The Royal Tanenbaums
    5. The Godfather

  15. Adam Says:

“Any candidate fit the description of the fidler guy in Deliverance?”

Former Congressman Don Sherwood of Pennsylvania.

  16. redline Says:

The McCain one is killing me! Hhahahahaahahahah

  17. Matthew E. Miller Says:

Classics are fantastic. I’m not a huge fan of Citizen Kane either though. I’m a Jimmy Stewart guy, but Bogie has his moments.

  18. BWett Says:

14 - How on earth did the Royal Tanenbaums make that list?

  19. Yogi Says:

    Adam: Is this guy real?

  20. Yogi Says:

    Sante Fe Trail.

    Ronald Reagan.

  21. joe c. Says:

royal tanenbaums is awesome. but i havent found many other people that loved it. what is wrong with me?

  22. Matthew E. Miller Says:

    joe c,

I think it’s a pretty strong movie. Wes Anderson is an excellent director.

  23. MWS Says:

    Tommy,

You got Huck’s wrong, as “The Last Temptation” was a heavily boycotted, anti-Christian film.

Huck should have gotten “The Apostle.”

Also, Citizen Kane implies that Romney is not a cynical panderer.

  24. Paul8148 Says:

Long Lines at the Villages. That is where McCain had a big rally on sunday.

  25. MWS Says:

    Tommy,

Actually since you like De Niro so much (as do I), you should have selected “The Mission” for Huck. If you haven’t seen that film, you need to. It is one of the greatest of all time.

  26. MWS Says:

    Yogi,

That site comes from Sherwood’s opponents.

  27. Yogi Says:

Tommy: you left out Fred Thompson when he played the President in Last Best Chance.

some interesting stuff but doesn’t tell everything exit polls by ksl

  29. Illinoisguy Says:

(AP) - Some highlights of preliminary data from exit polls conducted for The Associated Press and television networks in the Florida presidential primary Tuesday:

    ___

    RISING IMPORTANCE FOR FALLING ECONOMY

Given four choices, nearly half of Florida Republican primary voters said the economy is the most important issue facing the country. Terrorism, Iraq and immigration each were picked by fewer than two in 10. The economy also was the top issue out of three choices for voters in the Democratic primary, which none of the candidates contested because of questions over whether Florida’s Democratic delegates will be seated. The economy has been seen as increasingly important since the start of the 2008 presidential nomination season.

    AND HOW’S THE ECONOMY DOING?

Republicans were more likely than Democrats to rate the national economy positively, though few in either party rated it excellent. A third of Republicans but fewer than one in 10 Democrats rated the economy good. Half of Democrats called it poor, compared to only about one in seven Republican primary voters.

    THE GRAYING OF THE PRIMARIES

Both parties’ electorates were older than in any other presidential contest this year. A third or more in each primary were at least 65 years old. In earlier Democratic contests no more than a quarter were senior citizens, and on the Republican side only the Nevada caucuses came anywhere close to Florida in the proportion of older voters.

    MORE DEMOGRAPHIC TIDBITS …

_ Eight in 10 Republican primary voters were white and a little more than one in 10 were Hispanic _ about half of whom were of Cuban heritage. There were few blacks on the GOP side. In the Democratic primary, two-thirds were white, about one in five were black and a little more than one in 10 were Hispanic.

_ About one in seven voters in each party’s primary described themselves as independents.

_ About three in 10 Republican voters called themselves moderates. Slightly more Democrats identified themselves as moderate.

    DECISIONS, DECISIONS

There were fewer late-deciding voters in both parties in Florida than in most earlier contests.

    ___

From partial samples of 970 Republican primary voters and 989 Democratic primary voters conducted by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International in 40 precincts across Florida on Tuesday. The samples include 235 Republican voters and 294 Democratic voters who voted early or absentee and were surveyed in the past week by telephone. Margin of sampling error plus or minus 4 percentage points for each primary.

  30. Dave Says:

    Rosebud! Rosebud! Rosebud!!

  31. Illinoisguy Says:

Nearly half considered the economy most important!! Isn’t that good for Mitt?

  32. Axel G. (independent) Says:

“Casablanca” is an excellent film, but I love most Boggie (sp?) movies. One of the best films of all time that is rarely mentioned is “A Lion in Winter.” The screenplay itself is top five all time.

  33. alaska jake Says:

hahahaha Ron Paul in Taxi Driver. That’s awesome.

  34. econ grad stud Says:

I think the better film for Ron Paul! would have been “Once Upon A Time In The West”

  35. MWS Says:

For Hillary Clinton, 101 Dalmations. The film features an evil woman who wants to skin things that are both white and black.

  36. Shawnie Says:

Actually Huck should have gotten “Forest Gump” You know how popular and likable Forest was. That’s a better match.

  37. Chris Says:

    Thank God he lost.

For my sake, my children’s sake, and America’s. He can now go back to exploiting 9/11 full-time.

  38. Sean P Says:

    For Hillary Clinton:

    The Crying Game

GOP Nominee
