A Few Quick Observations On Super Tuesday from TN

At work now- so I can’t hang around, but here are a few quick observations I noticed over the last few days through 12 pm today, when I went and cast my vote. Like I’ve said, I live in East Tennessee, which is the GOP’s strongest region.

  • Since yesterday, I’ve received two messages on the answering machine from Mike Huckabee, and one from McCain
  • During the Super Bowl, I counted two Obama commercials, a couple for Hillary, and one from Huckabee (the “Christian Leader” one)
  • Ron Paul has a ton of signs
  • John McCain has almost as many signs up as Paul
  • When I was at the voting place, a couple of people openly said “Fred’s still on the ballot? I’m voting for him then.”

I think I stand by my earlier prediction. I’m not a McCain supporter, but it I were, I’d be very confident about his chances here today.

    too bad. mccain sucks.

  2. Shawn T. Says:

I think Huckabee will take TN be a narrow margin. Here in West TN he is very strong and in the Shelby/Tipton/Fayette county area we have the largest Republican voting block in the State. We have the most signs out in this area by at least a 20 to 1 margin over Ron Paul signs and there is not a single Mccain or Romney sign out.

I spent all last night putting signs out at all 150 voting location here in the county. I had 3 other guys help me.

    Tommy,

Thanks for the report. Good to know!

  4. Frank Says:

Shawn, I’m here in Shelby CT as well. What are the chances that the weather in W TN plays a part later tonight?

  5. Frank Says:

    shelby country that is.

“When I was at the voting place, a couple of people openly said “Fred’s still on the ballot? I’m voting for him then.â€?”

Hopefully, those are would-be Huckabee supporters.

  7. Illinoisguy Says:

I hate this West Virginia methodology. On this second vote, if more than 1% of the Paul voters go for anyone other than Mitt, Mitt will lose this thing on the 2nd ballot. The tag team won’t take a chance of Mitt getting the Paul voters on the third round. All McCain’s will go to Huckabee 2nd round. I predict McHuckaliar takes it. What a bunch of cheaters!!

  8. UA Says:

    huckabee will win TN

  9. bjalder26 - If Mac's so great, why won't he debate? Says:

So let’s say Fred Thompson wins, what happens then?

I live about 12 miles from Tennessee and I get all the advertisements from Nashville and Memphis.

I’ve noticed that Romney has been AWOL in Western Tennessee and Huckabee has dominated McCain on the airwaves by a wide margin.

    #9

Then he gets the delegates. TN is proportional. If Rasmussen is right Romney and McCain will get about the same number of delegates. McCain has the edge because democrats can vote.

  13. Shawn T. Says:

4# Weather seems to bad in lots places today and in lots of states. I think it won’t affect any one candidate too much.

  14. Chris Says:

Take a look at today’s headlines and it’s pretty easy to see where the media stands :

    “Romney’s missed chance” (CNNMoney)
    “Republicans against Romney” (Gaurdian)
“McCain Ad Casts Romney As Anti-Reagan” (AP)
“McCain Leads the Field” (New York Times)
“McCain wins key Super Tuesday endorsement” (CNN)
“Do you really want to tick off Bob Dole?” (Kansas City Star)
“Huckabee to Romney: If He thinks this is Tough, He ain’t seen Nothing” (Fox News)
    “Romney admits mischievous voting” (Reuters)
“Inches from the long-sought goal-line, ex-Rudy lawyers back McCain” (Boston Globe)
“Analysis: McCain Looks to Seal the Deal” (AP)

The liberal media is fighting hard to defeat the conservative candidate. Will they succeed?

  15. matthew Says:

I think this is the consensus around the country. McCain’s got it in the bag.

  16. Greg Says:

These same liberal outlets are waiting to turn on McCain in the general election. They will all be fore Obama or Clinton.

  17. Jonathan Says:

It would be great for McCain to win TN. Coupled with a win in Alambama and possibly GA, how can people say McCain can’t connect to the average Republican? Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee are about as conservative as they come.

  18. sampo Says:

    FOXNEWS CALLS WV FOR HUCKABEE!!!!

  19. Shawnie Says:

Huck won WV on the second go around.

  20. ElectionNightHQ.com (McCain site) Publisher Says:

    Tommy -

great analysis from the ground in Tenn….
