Romney Does Not Win West Virginia

To be absolutely clear, Mitt Romney has not won the West Virginia Caucus.

Voting continues in the Mountain State, and sources on the ground tell me that when it is all said and done, you can expect Gov. Mike Huckabee to win West Virginia’s 18 Delegates.

  2. Au standard Says:

    “sources on the ground”…..lol…please

  3. UA Says:

THANK YOU FOR STATING THE TRUTH

(SORRY FOR THE CAPS_ SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY PC)

  4. DaveG Says:

    Go, Huck, go.

  5. Mr Awesome Says:

Sources on the ground tell me Huckabee’s an idiot

  6. Jeff Fuller Says:

Yeah . . . that makes sense. The guy who has the most votes in the first round is obviously the one who shouldn’t get the delegates.

    That would be a travesty.

  7. Greg Says:

It would be disappointing if it turned out this way. Romney supporters have to be working over the Paul people right now.

  8. John Galt Says:

wow, the hostility even on r408 is reaching new levels. the race is obviously not over yet.

i think kavon may be right. all of pual’s peple won’t go to mitt in round two settin gup a mitt huck fight. mccain’s people will probably go to huckabee simply because a huckabee victory does nothing to hurt them because he has no shot but a rommey victory hurts their chances because he is the only one at a shot for beating mccain.

i predict mccain’s wins. too bad. what a stupid system. very unrepresentative.

  9. Illinoisguy Says:

Those dirty, rotten SOG’s. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Tag teaming!!!

  10. Jeff Fuller Says:

McCain’s folks (Kavon and DaveG) are actively rooting for Huck.

    You people are SICK!

  11. Abe Says:

    Kavon,

Are you going to “UPDATE” your posting if you are wrong…….

Why didn’t you simply say “No declared winner in WV yet”…..

Instead of “Romney does not win”…………

    No bias right…….

  12. John Galt Says:

  13. Ray Says:

Why don’t they just keep voting until McCain wins? Unfreakingbelievable!!!!!

  14. Jeff Fuller Says:

Give me an argument for Paul supporters to go to Huck or McCain over Romney. I’m just not seeing it.

  15. Matt C Says:

The second ballot voting will being at 1:30 EST.

  16. UA Says:

oh rombots_______have a little pity party for yourselves

  17. Brett S Says:

ABE..he put Romney does not win to counter the post saying he did win. Its just an update…settle down.

  18. John Galt Says:

sorry for the double post. i meant looks like huck will win for obvious reasons unless all of paul’s people break to romney. therei s no way a mccain supporter will go with romney over huck when huck is no threat and romney is.

too bad. what crackhead thought up this system? it is bound to result in a pick, barring an overwhelming victory in the first round, that does not represent what the majority of people want. amazing.

i will refrain from any interfamilial procreating jokes.

  19. Brett Passmore Says:

    #14, Jeff,
2nd Amendment. RP’s are huge gun fans - Romney is scared to death of guns and would not veto the assault weapons ban…
    Plays big there…

  20. Tommy Oliver Says:

Give me an argument for Paul supporters to go to Huck or McCain over Romney. I’m just not seeing it.

Logic does not always follow those who support the fine Doctor Paul.

  21. Greg Says:

Paul’s people are anti-war and anti-violence, andnthey are definitely anti-McCain.

  22. civic virtue Says:

too bad. what crackhead thought up this system? it is bound to result in a pick, barring an overwhelming victory in the first round, that does not represent what the majority of people want. amazing.

Oh, please look at the bright side. Those 18 delegates won’t got to Romney. Can’t we all come together and celebrate at least this one small victory?

  23. Au standard Says:

obviously west va delegates didn’t get the fighter squadron memo

  24. bulldozer Says:

That system of voting is garbage it gives the loosers like mcCain a chance to vote against their own candidate to wound another candidate.

  25. Jason S. Says:

“sources on the ground!!!!” LOL Kavon

  26. civic virtue Says:

That system of voting is garbage it gives the loosers like mcCain a chance to vote against their own candidate to wound another candidate.

Um, you mean like when Romney voted for Paul Tsongas in a Democrat primary?

Or would you like to argue that Romney was really a Tsongas supporter?

  27. Argamenon Says:

Romney will win. It’s a closed caucus. He already paid for a landslide victory. /sarc

  28. grandma T Says:

    Prediction Romney 51%
    Huckabee 49%

  29. MarkG Says:

WV is Rust-Belt/Midwestern along the Ohio Valley to the West, from Wheeling to Huntington. The Eastern Panhandle is like Northern VA/MD — the DC ex-exurbs now. The southern part where I live is heavily religious. Huck is an excellent fit here in the south generally because of his top Second Amendment credibility, firm pro-life stance, and God-fearing religiosity.

    Good luck, Huck!

  30. Matthew E. Miller Says:

I’d have to agree with Kavon. Unless all of the Paul people go to Mitt, I don’t see how Huck loses. It’s possible that the McCain folks are ultra secular types, who’ll have a hard time voting for the deeply religious Huck, even if it’s in their own interests. But, conventions are usually pretty organized and non-emotional. McCain folks will probably swallow their bile and fall in line.

  31. liz Says:

What? It goes from Romney to Huckabee you folks are saying? Let’s wait the real stuff, if Romney got over 40% in the first round, I say that halfway to a win. Huckabee is unqualified to be the president anyway, he only gets sympathy votes.

  32. daniel Says:

does anyone know when they will be voting again in WV?

  33. Matthew E. Miller Says:

    Daniel,

    At 1:30.

  34. David Says:

Let’s face it; all this proves is that we need to scrap the archaic convention/caucus systems. They’re silly and undemocratic. Every state should have a primary, period. No other system makes the slightest bit of sense in this day and age.

  35. UA Says:

    Huckabee is unqualified”

are you forgetting that he was governor for over ten years in arkansas?
he has more experience than mitt

  36. bulldozer Says:

34 - well said, not to mention all the winner take all is reallly unbalanced as well.

  37. Matthew E. Miller Says:

People have to remember these aren’t voters, they’re delegates. They’re cogs in the party machinery, who understand and effectuate strategic voting better then anyone. McCain HQ has already given that unaligned 16% orders to vote for Huck. And they will.

  38. UA Says:

i think we are getting closer to a mccain|huckabee ticket today

  39. David Says:

#36 - thanks, though I have mixed emotions on that one. If you suggest that, then you’d have to say that electoral college allocations should be proportional, too. And if you suggest that, then you may as well abolish the electoral college and go with the popular vote. I just don’t know.

I do think that there should be consistency - every state proportional, or every state WTA - I just don’t know which makes more sense.

  40. Big S Says:

Give me an argument for Paul supporters to go to Huck or McCain over Romney. I’m just not seeing it.

I’m guessing that the Fair Tax (abolish the IRS) might resonate among the Paulians. Also the fact that Huck has criticized the current administration for its “arrogance” overseas.

  41. grandma T Says:

We should have 6 super tuesdays with a balance of north south east and west states in each one. Then we would truely have a presidential nominee that represents ALL the PEOPLE. Only voters who have registered to vote in that party should vote. ID must be required and proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

  42. bjalder26 - If Mac's so great, why won't he debate? Says:

All Romney needs is 30% of the Paul/McCain delegates.

  43. Clarence Claus Says:

If Huckabee got the entire 16% of McCain voters, it would be 49%, so he would just need a handful of Paul voters. It will be close, but Romney either needs to get just about all Paul voters or get a small handful of McCain voters to disobey orders and vote for Romney over Huckabee. This is just more back luck for Mitt if it doesn’t work out.

  44. Au standard Says:

    is arkanasas in the Union?

  45. Linda Says:

I have heard people say that the most fair way it to give out delegates proportionally, but give bonus points for winning a state.

  46. davew Says:

would absolutely love it if huck win west va!

mitt….close your checkbook and go home! you gave it the good old college try, and that’s respectable…..

  47. Linda Says:

    #46,

The class warfare is getting old.

  48. Greg Says:

The fact that McCain is instructing all of his people to go to Huckabee could turn off the Paulians, because they really do not like McCain.

  49. Dave Says:

    UA,
Huckabee’s qualifications are that he’s not qualified to govern a state. Mitt’s proven that he can do that.

  50. Linda Says:

It is very possible that if Mitt doesn’t get the nomination, his people would vote for Paul instead of McCain, if Paul is a 3rd party candidate.

  51. dblagent007 Says:

Sources on the ground are telling me that the Paulites are voting as a block and are going to decide who will win between Huck and Mitt. Let’s hope they go with Mitt.

  52. Greg Says:

A victory by Huckabee is a victory for McCain. That’s all you have to tell the Paulians.

  53. UA Says:

#49 - yeah, that is why Huckabee was re-elected.

  54. MarkG Says:

    Good Gravy!

Romney said on “Fox & Friends” this morning that Dole was “probably the last person I would have wanted write a letter for me.” He added: “I think there are a lot of folks who tend to think that maybe John McCain’s race is a bit like Bob Dole’s race. That it’s the guy who’s next in line, the inevitable choice.”

Ron Paul is a revolutionary. Mitt Romney is just revolting…

  55. Dave Says:

My question would be: How monolithic are the McCain voters? Does every one of them have Huckabee as their second choice? Do they get shot on the spot if they deviate from McCain’s orders? Kind of scary.

  56. Clarence Claus Says:

If that is the case I think Paul voters will go to Mitt. That is if you’re being truthful about sources on the ground. The problem is Paul people are anti-establishment and will be less politically savvy than McCain people, so it will be hard to keep them as a block. Indeed if all of them go to Mitt he’ll be fine.

  57. michael Says:

    Stupidity at work:

Just posted at the Charleston Gazette..

“There is speculation on the convention floor that rather than stay with McCain on the second ballot, his supporters may switch to Huckabee in order to give him a victory over Romney.”

    http://wvgazette.com/News/200802050313

  58. pngrata Says:

Quick note - no guarantee that any voting block will stay united. From a Fox news article:

But nearly half the delegates arrived Tuesday uncommitted to any candidate. Shirley Searls of Putnam County said she hasn’t made up her mind, but was leaning toward McCain.

“He’s the lesser of all the evils,” she said. “I just want the most conservative candidate in there.”

That didn’t sit well with fellow Putnam County delegate Bob Pennington, who backed Romney.

“I’m going to have to work on her,” he joked.

  59. Hobie Swanson Says:

Shouldn’t Huck protest that no candidate should be dropped? Isn’t that his mantra for continuing in the race?

  60. Matthew E. Miller Says:

If it’s true that half of the delegates were uncommitted before today, Romney probably still has a chance. People that were deciding between Romney and McCain and ended up narrowly breaking for McCain, probably aren’t as likely to buy the “a vote for Huckabee helps McCain” logic.

  61. Jeff Fuller Says:

    Hey Kavon?

After that WV Gazette article where McCain concedes shouldn’t the title of this thread be “John McCain Does Not Win WV Caucuses”

    I mean, he’s the only one who’s conceded . . .

    A little objective journalism please.

    http://wvgazette.com/News/200802050313

Former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer conceded defeat for Sen. John McCain at West Virginia’s Republican state convention on Tuesday.

Roemer, who represented McCain at the Charleston event, asked McCain boosters to support Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on the second ballot in order to block former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

“The truth is, John didn’t win, and John wants a strong organization,” Roemer said.

  62. Clarence Claus Says:

We should find out pretty soon I would think.

  63. MarkG Says:

If it’s true that half of the delegates were uncommitted before today

I heard that only around a third or less were committed before today.

  64. Jeff Fuller Says:

And that “speculative comment” has been taken off of that link provided.

Afraid they’re gonna be eating their words?

  65. K Dub Says:

Whining about the rules in the middle of the game isn’t going to change things…

I think one thing that virtually everyone can agree on after this chaotic, messy primary is that the whole system could really use an overhaul. Seems like alot of this stuff is a holdover of the horse-and-buggy era, when the series of tubes known as the internets didn’t yet exist…

  66. Irish Right Says:

Ahh, good old fashioned backroom politics. I love it, even if my boy gets hosed.

  67. Jeff Fuller Says:

McCain + Huck on the first ballot does not equal 50%.

They’re gonna need some Ron Paul support plus 100% of the McCain people going to Huck to pull it off.

    Mitt has to scrounge up 9% . . . Huck 17%.

    We’ll know shortly though.

  68. Greg Says:

I just think we should have a national primary on one day and do away with the delegate system ans the caucases. Why not let the people decide all at once? It’s what make sense.

  69. bulldozer Says:

Greg the problem with that is the most known candidate would win. THE entire USA is too big to campaing in.

  70. Linda Says:

I like the idea of different regions being grouped together in clusters to ensure that no one region or demographic gets to decide the nominee.

  71. Matthew E. Miller Says:

    Greg,

I like our system. A National primary is an awful idea. It ensures that only multi-millionaires, or outrageously charismatic candidates will run. And it doesn’t give voters any chance to reflect. To take second looks at candidates. To consider how other Republicans are reacting. For instance, if you’re a McCain guy, maybe you re-consider about his “electability” after seeing a movement revolt. It’s a much healthier process, even if it might not give us the result we’d like this time around.

  72. Clarence Claus Says:

    I second Matthew on that.

  73. Greg Says:

I just think the current system is unrepresentative. The West is way under-represented.

  74. bjalder26 - If Mac's so great, why won't he debate? Says:

Huck needs more of the Ron Paul vote than Romney needs of the McCain Vote, plus he needs Mitt to get a very small portion of the McCain vote.

It’s a narrow path to victory for Huck, especially since people like to back winners.

  75. Shawn T. Says:

After 4 co, Mike 39 votes, Mitt 38 on the 2nd round of voting

  76. Shawn T. Says:

    After 8 counties,

    Mike 88

    Mitt 65

  77. Hobie Swanson Says:

    #75 Shawn T
    What “4 co” mean?

  78. Greg Says:

    Not looking good for Mitt.

  79. Shawn T. Says:

    #77 Sorry - It means “4 counties”

  80. Irish Right Says:

    Linda,

If all this Super Duper Fantasmagorical Friday crap hadn’t combined with all sorts of states wanting to move up, we would have had what you like and what Matthew refers to; an orderly process that, more often than not, achieves what we want … the best candidate.

  81. Hobie Swanson Says:

    how many counties in WV?

  82. pngrata Says:

Where you getting the numbers Shawn?

  83. Shawn T. Says:

    After 14 counties.

    Mike 136

    Mitt 104

  84. Shawn T. Says:

    Huckabee 155 Romney 119

  85. Matthew E. Miller Says:

    Greg,

The West shouldn’t have much representation. Other then California, Oregon, and Washington, we’re looking at very small states in the west. I tend to agree that they should have a big “early primary’ as well, to balance out NH, Iowa, and SC. But, beyond that, it seems pretty fair to me.

  86. MarkG Says:

    Hobie: 55

  87. pngrata Says:

Oh, and it’s first to 567

  88. Shawn T. Says:

#82 People on Huck’s Army are watching the results live on TV and posting them. I am just repeating the posts here.

  89. Sean Says:

Shawn where are you getting these results from?

  90. pngrata Says:

85 - I think Nevada played that role tolerably well this time around. Kept Mitt in the race despite McCain winning SC the same day.

  91. Jeffrey Says:

Best scenario for future nomination contests IMO

1 - Group the states (West, mid-west, south, northeast)
2 - First round of primaries would be a single state from each group spaced 3-5 days apart
3 - Second round of primaries would be 2 weeks of 8 states voting (2 of each group) - spaced 1 week apart
4 - Third round would be Super Tuesday - 16 states
5 - Fourth round would be all the leftovers

Oh, and no winner take all, but rather statewide winner gets a bonus. This would best represent the voices across the country, still preserve the retail politics.

  92. Shawn T. Says:

    20 counties

    Mike 231

    Mitt 204

  93. econ grad stud Says:

Looks like McCain’s support has shifted wholesale to Huckabee during this round.

  94. Hobie Swanson Says:

    Shawn T
They only dropped Paul right? Is McCain still getting any votes or are all of them going to Huck following the plan?

  95. Shawn T. Says:

    25 co,

    Mike 277
    Mitt 249

  96. joe c. Says:

my sources on the ground tell me that mike huckabee is a massive tool.

  97. Shawn T. Says:

    #94 let me find out

  98. Kevin O Says:

The problem with the system is that Iowa votes first. If there was a Super Tuesday type scenario to start things off in early January, where only small states like Iowa, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Wyoming, etc. could participate, then have the larger states go later, that would be much better. This way, candidates with little money have the entire year leading up to the first states voting to get their names out there.

  99. Greg Says:

The Huckabee/McCain alliance is alive and well. McCain is going to be forced to take Mike as Vice President.

  100. pngrata Says:

My math says Mitt got 463 votes last round… need 567

  101. Cap Says:

    Rush’s dream ticket! :-)

  102. Shawn T. Says:

    30 co

    Mike 316

    Mitt 275

  103. Big S Says:

The Huckabee/McCain alliance is alive and well. McCain is going to be forced to take Mike as Vice President.

Why do you say that? In this contest (WV), it is McCain that is helping Huck out, so he owes Huck nothing on account of today’s vote.

  104. liz Says:

But seriously, people are still hanging their star on Huckabee? He must be symbolic or something. I don’t think the guy is qualified. Buy him a world map and some integrity, and give him a few years.

  105. Joshua Says:

    29 counties:

    Mike 294
    Mitt 289

  106. dblagent007 Says:

Shawn T, where are you getting your results?

  107. MWS Says:

Well, I canceled out Jason’s vote here in Illinois just about an hour ago. In fact, since my wife voted this morning, the best tally I have says:

    Huckabee 2.
    Romney 1.

    That’s a 2-1 margin for Huckabee!

    :-D

  108. Jeffrey Says:

cnn.com/live is streaming the count in WV too

  109. Sean Says:

Shawn T can you link everyone else to the results you are getting?

  110. Hobie Swanson Says:

    #107 LOL

  111. bulldozer Says:

where are you following the count?

  112. Jeffrey Says:

    what tool Huckabee is

  113. econ grad stud Says:

    Huckabee wins WV.

  114. Shawn T. Says:

McCain has less than 10 votes

  115. liz Says:

By integrity, I don’t mean he doesn’t want to be honest and straightforward, he just has the habit of working out his ethics and morality when the cameras are around. And he makes it a big embarrassing moment. Most people work these issues out in private, if they’re sincere. I don’t want to see someone like that embarrassing the US on a daily basis. So, I have little patience for serious discussion of Huckabee in this race right now.

  116. Joshua Says:

The Mccain Huckabee alliance is going to get Huckabee West Virginia. It’s a game to these guys.

  117. Hobie Swanson Says:

    #113
    is that true?

  118. pngrata Says:

Keep reporting guys, my computer doesn’t want to display the cnn feed for some stupid reason.

  119. MWS Says:

“It’s a game to these guys.”

It’s politics. That’s how the system works.

  120. Jeffrey Says:

Hobie - possibly - just a matter of minutes and it might will be true

    Huck: 479
    McCain: 10
    Romney: 426

  121. Greg Says:

    Huckabee/McCain win this one

  122. Shawn T. Says:

    376 Huck
    335 Mitt

  123. Jeffrey Says:

    Huck: 524
    McCain: 1110
    Romney: 479

  124. pngrata Says:

Yeah, Huck passed Mitt’s old count. Looks like Paul’s people went for Huck too.

  125. Jeffrey Says:

    McCain - 11 - sorry :(

  126. econ grad stud Says:

Scott Saxton is reporting Huckabee has won this round if he can hold his prior supporters and win no extra votes in any other counties.

  127. Greg Says:

    MWS:

Just like Huckabee having his supporters call Romney’s people again and again in Florida and purporting to be from the Romney campaign?

  128. Shawn T. Says:

    50 co

    Mike 524

    Mitt 479

  129. Jeffrey Says:

one of the county jsut called out vote for “Huckleberry” and some guy yelled - “It’s Huckabee! not Huckleberry”

  130. MWS Says:

Well, it’s a great start for Huck today. So far he is leading 2-1 in Illinois (see #107 above) and has 100% of the delegates today.

At this rate, he’ll be vetting his cabinet by dinnertime!

    :-D

  131. UA Says:

    524 mike
    479 mitt

  132. UA Says:

    how many counties are left?

  133. Shawn T. Says:

    #109 - http://forum.hucksarmy.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8983&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=165

  134. econ grad stud Says:

Only 5 more counties. Huckabee’s won.

  135. pngrata Says:

So Huckabee people are perfectly content to deliver McCain the nomination on the chance Huck might get the Veep slot?

  136. dblagent007 Says:

The McCain people all voted for Huck. Man this stinks.

  137. Shawn T. Says:

    55 co

    Mike 567

    Mitt 521

  138. David Says:

You people don’t get it - Huck’s voters have far more in common with McCain than romney. Wake up and smell the coffee!

  139. UA Says:

huckabee is at 51% right now

  140. liz Says:

Ughh. Wait ’til we get the sane vote from the conservative western states. President Huckleberry? Never happen.

  141. UA Says:

shawn - who released the last 5 counties numbers?

  142. Hobie Swanson Says:

    Why isn’t CNN calling it?

  143. pngrata Says:

    567 wraps it up

  144. civic virtue Says:

Late deciders appear to break for Huckabee, sports fans.

… What [polling in OK] seems to show is movement toward Huckabee, who is firmly in second place, nine points ahead of Romney, and Huckabee appears to be the only candidate with a chance of overtaking John McCain and winning Oklahoma. As I explained earlier, Oklahoma Republicans who want anyone other than McCain to be our nominee are best served by casting a tactical vote for Huckabee. These new poll numbers confirm that judgment.

Final polls elsewhere show a tightening of the race in the five other southern states. Huckabee leads in Alabama, is tied with McCain in Georgia, and is two points behind McCain in Missouri and Tennessee. Huckabee should have no trouble winning his home state of Arkansas. … In the South at least, a vote for Romney is a vote for McCain to sew up the nomination today. A vote for Huckabee is a vote to keep the door open for anyone but McCain to emerge as the nominee …

    http://www.batesline.com/archives/2008/02/late-deciders-going-to-huckabee.html

It’s turning into a pretty good day, don’t you think?

  145. Shawn T. Says:

No we are not… Keep your friends close and your enemys closer. LOL.

We would love to go head to head against Mccain if Romney were to drop out. Which he probably won’t but who knows.

  146. dblagent007 Says:

“Huck’s voters have far more in common with McCain than romney.”

True, true. Huck and McCain and both quite liberal.

  147. Jeffrey Says:

Huckabee’s got to be so proud of himself to be able to get some of the lime light back from Rudy and all of McCain’s other friends. Huck’s been so jealous for the past week and thought McCain wasn’t giving him enough attention

  148. Greg Says:

A shame that this political process can be so eaily manipulated by two guys ganging up on another.

  149. MWS Says:

    pngrata,

“So Huckabee people are perfectly content to deliver McCain the nomination on the chance Huck might get the Veep slot?”

Well, just speaking for this Huckabee person, I’m perfectly content to vote for Huckabee. As for Romney and McCain, a plague on both their houses. I kinda’ hope that Huck ISN’T the veep this time out. I’m looking for a redux of 1996, and that sure didn’t brighten Kemp’s star now did it?

  150. liz Says:

And both insane in their own special way

  151. Brett S Says:

Where can we send thank you card to Huck?

  152. UA Says:

This is going to be a great day!

  153. Shawn T. Says:

  154. Linda Says:

    #145,

You’ve got to be kidding. Up to this point, Romney won 1st or 2nd place in every contest except for South Carolina and he is supposed to get out???

  155. civic virtue Says:

You people don’t get it - Huck’s voters have far more in common with McCain than romney. Wake up and smell the coffee!

Yes, that and Romney himself so savaged Huckabee in Iowa and beyond that no self-respecting Huckabee supporter would ever consider Willard Milton Romney. Ever. This is the problem with going negative in a primary. You’re all supposed to be on the same side.

  156. Hobie Swanson Says:

Kudos to the 12 voters for McCain. Stuck to their principles :-)

I guess the new saying will be “a vote for McCain is a vote for Huckabee”

  157. MWS Says:

    Civic Virtue,

    Thanks for the encouraging news.

  158. Greg Says:

civic virtue, Huckabee attacked Mitt’s religion before Romney ever did a compare-contrast ad. Huckabee showed himself to be a bigot very ealry on.

  159. David Says:

#155 — good point. Rather than embrace Huck voters in an effort to woo them over to his side, Romney insulted them today, saying they’re wasting their vote.

Mitt’s preppy arrogance shows its head…

  160. Hobie Swanson Says:

Huck won and the DOW has dropped 300 points, Holy Crap!

  161. civic virtue Says:

You’ve got to be kidding. Up to this point, Romney won 1st or 2nd place in every contest except for South Carolina and he is supposed to get out???

No, please. Let Romney stick around, humiliate himself further, squander more of his fortune, and continue destroying the GOP.

  162. jhardy Says:

The narrative seems to be that Huckabee voters that Mitt would be their 2nd choice. That is just not the case. At least not the Iowa Huckabee supporters that I have spoken with. A lot of them are life issue voters and they don’t trust Romney who decided to become pro-life when wanted to be president. They just don’t trust Romney. The fact is that many conservatives have not been motivated by anyone, especially Mitt Romney. Conservatives can bemoan the fact that McCain is going to be nominee but they failed to present a truly conservative candidate that inspired the conservatives and the rest of the party.

  163. Illinoisguy Says:

    Huckabee won this thing.

  164. Tyler Says:

Huck is a sellout just like McCain, just like the Democrats. And their supporters have no souls. Now we know.

  165. Greg Says:

Romney people are asking their voters to cast votes for Huckabee in Tennessee, I am hearing.

  166. bjalder26 - If Mac's so great, why won't he debate? Says:

    What the Heck? Huckabee won?

  167. David Says:

#160 - yes, all of wall street is looking at the West Virginia convention for clues. /eye roll/

  168. civic virtue Says:

Huck won and the DOW has dropped 300 points, Holy Crap!

No, that’s because they thought Romney had won, as some on this site thought too. The DOW will recover quickly now that Huckabee is the confirmed winner.

  169. Linda Says:

    #161,

Huckabee is the one, who with his buddy John McCain, who is destroying the republican party.

  170. Jonathan Says:

AP just called it for Huckabee, congrats to him.

  171. Linda Says:

    #161,

Huckabee is the one, who with his buddy John McCain, is destroying the republican party.

  172. Linda Says:

    Sorry about the repeat

  173. sampo Says:

    FOXNEWS CALLED WV FOR HUCKABEE

  174. Greg Says:

Huckabee already destroyed the republican party in Arkansas.

  175. Cap Says:

Well, the CNN website just called it… The second state for Huckabee and the last state he will win at anything in…

    Oh…I forgot Arkansas…

Thanks West Virginia for playing…Hope we can do this again next year…

  176. Hobie Swanson Says:

Congrats to McCain, one less state that Romney gets.

  177. Shawnie Says:

This reminds me of Kavon’s post about Louisiana.

  178. Jeff Maples Says:

    Huck 52%, Romney 47%, McCain 1%

  179. MarkG Says:

Cheers to all the Huckaboppers from Wiley, Wonderful WV!

  180. Brett Passmore Says:

Just shows you that Romney is NOBODY’s 2ND CHOICE

  181. Jonathan Says:

From what I have heard, I think McCain’s people got to vote again or shifted their votes after it appeared McCain wouldn’t win and they went almost to a man for Huckabee.

  182. Linda Says:

    #181,

    Brett, last Time I checked, 41% + 6%+ 47%, so he obviously was someone’s 2nd choice.

  183. UA Says:

I bet FOX news is spinning this

  184. Tyler Says:

The endorsements by the media and lib GOPers like Arnold and Rudy, the lies and dirty tricks and naked bigotry. It’s a lesson in modern politics, the old-fashioned way. Mac’s a pro at sleazy manipulation. The mob is so pathetic. So ignorant. God help us.

  185. Linda Says:

    Sorry 41% +6% = 47%

  186. Cap Says:

To the McCain people, voting for Huckabee was not a vote FOR the man from Hope, but instead a vote AGAINST the man from Boston. Funny thing is that if Huckabee people were in those same shoes, they would have went for Romney. Gotta love politics…

Hate to say it, but looks like we are moving back to the party of Ford/Nixon

  187. UA Says:

Huckabee supporters WILL NOT vote for Romney. Romney is not our second or even third choice.

  188. Sean Says:

    Mike Huckabee-John McCain’s puppet.

  189. grover71 Says:

I will vote for the Dem in November and enjoy being the opposition party for 4 years…nothing will make me happier than to see McCain being humiliated in the GE.

  190. UA Says:

    Rombots= sore losers

  191. grover71 Says:

where does it say I have to vote for John McCain if I am in the Republican party…I am not a sore loser…I am a “Maverick”

  192. MikeKS Says:

Huck is nothing but a McCain puppet. So sad.

  193. Hobie Swanson Says:

Congrats Huck supporters you are off to a better start than any other candidate so far.

#187 Relax. No one can make blanket statements about any of the candidates second choice. I am sure there are 2nd choices to go around to all the candidates. You might have the majority feeling, but it is not unanimous.

  194. grover71 Says:

actually Romney voters in states where he is running 3rd should cast their vote for Huckabee…lets have 3 guys still in this at the end of the day

  195. Hobie Swanson Says:

    #194
Can you imagine just for fun that after today all 3 are within 100-150 delegates of each other.

  196. grover71 Says:

actually the fact that it came down to Romney/Huckabee is not a good sign for McCain…am I wrong?
