That was funnier than any of the SNL Hardball skits. Hillary should put it up in OH and TX 24/7. Her problem is she doesn’t have any either. McCain should take note of it and make hay.
You can be sure the Obama campaign’s spent several hours after that interview faxing a list of accomplishments to every politician who publically endorsed him. Facts are facts, however, so it will be a rather short list. Which is why I’ve been saying for many months that I’m not worried about running against him. Hillary, for all her faults, has a record to run on. Obama is an empty suit. An inspiring empty suit, but empty nevertheless. Or, as my dad used to say in much cruder language. . . It’s like lipstick on an a**hole: It’s still an a**hole.
I liked Chris Matthews in that interview. Quite damning of Obama, and of his supporters for that matter.
But wouldn’t it be true of the majority of our Senators, that they themselves have accomplished little of substance in their office outside of their daily duties (votes, committee work)?
This is why McCain needs Mitt on the ticket with him. Then, at least someone on the ticket will have accomplished something in their life in the last 35 years. Unfortuantely, the things McCain is known for would be better for him if he were running as a Democrat.
Fran - What about voting for Alito, Thomas, Roberts, and Scalia? Is helping get those four confirmed not an accomplishment? He voted and passed legislation to protect gun manufacturers against silly lawsuits from the anti-gun groups. He voted time and time again against timetables and voted for contunued funding the troops. He has been a leader on adoption issues. A leader in preventing access by children to internet porn by requiring federally funded libraries and schools to install filters.
All of these issues are hugely important to me and McCain has been a leader on all of them. You may disagree on some issues that are important but let us not ignore the vast number of issues in which he agrees and champions for conservatives.
Obama supporters will say that he passed Ethics reform with Tom Coburn and some non-proliferation initiative with Dick Lugar but that to me is pretty thin. Ironically, it’s still far more than Hillary has done.
But his record is pretty much non-existent. In a way that helps him, though. Kerry had 20 years of liberalism to attack him on. Obama doesn’t.
however, while in IL, he did vote for these among others:
1:To allow gun owners to be sued if their guns are stolen and used in crimes.
2:To allow child molestors early release from prison
3:To not protect babies that survived botched abortions
Those three will make their way into the public and they will hurt him.
Matthews is the biggest Hillary shill out there. You could see Chris’s lip quivering because he sees his chance of being Hillary’s press secretary slipping away. Must have been a tough night for Chris.
Probably too little too late, however, seeing as the MSM has already corronated Obama.
#10 Did you see the CNN election results in WA with 57% reporting Romney has 20% of the vote. That is funny since he dropped out two weeks ago. Huckabee barely passes him with 22%.
#15, that’s exactly why McCain needs Romney on the ticket. The GOP would win Washington, Oregon, Colorado, NM, Nevada, and Michigan with Mitt on the ticket. I can’t believe so many ’so called’ conservatives on here want lesser know names with less conservative credentials. The vast majority of the electorate haven’t the foggiest idea who Palin, or Pawlenty, or even Sanford are. That may be sad, but nevertheless, its true.
Fran #4 - I agree. This is a great clip but then you realize our nominee’s accomplishments are all liberal ones. If Barack could say he has accompklished the liberal policies McACin has he would be a shoe in. So Im left with a sick feeling.
I personally can’t stand Matthews because its always about him and this episode was simply about playing gotcha. Not that the question wasn’t fair, but to nearly attack the guy on a night where I am sure he wanted to talk about Obama’s victory was a bit unseemly.
What was the best part was when Keith Olbermann asked Matthews to name something the senate had accomplished and Matthews stumbled. Matthews then asked, grinning like the cheshire cate, “why do you think they call this Hardball?” Olhbermann’s response, “But this isn’t Hardball, its election coverage.” You could hear the production staff laughing in the background.
One of the downfalls of Democracy is that it will allow someone to become president who can simply sway the emotional masses regardless of accomplishment.
This isn’t the first time a world leader rose to power by swaying the electorate to ignore the candidate and only focus on the message.
THis whole election cycle is a joke - We have three people to choose from none of wich have run anything in their lives. THey are all professional politicians that have sat in commitees just to look like they are earning our money.
Jason, this will not be a good debate angle for repubs this year. I would hate to answer the same question about McCain.
Kisten, we only have senators left in the race = no record of accomplishment. That’s the biggest travesty. None of them has ever been a leader (except for Mccain’s squadron 40 years ago). They can only point to their voting records. Pretty pathetic.
#17 -Bulldozer - You may wish to downplay all the things I listed and countless other items because you have a problem with McCain. But, McCain has championed, sponsored, voted, and passed legislation that is both substantive and heralded by conservatives. He is a Senator and that is his job. That is an accomplishment. You can ignore it if you wish but it still remains true.

And the only John McCains accomplishment I can think of is curtailing free speech.
Maybe pushing hard for the surge???? Talking tough on pork barrel spending… didn’t seem to help much.
Great crop of candidates we have left standing.

This is where the gloves come off and we see what Barry is really made of. He’s been getting the royal treatment up until his wife opened her big yap.

Whatever happened to the “soft bigotry of low expectations”? :-/

That’s the condensed version to be used in McCain’s future ad: The Vacuous Vessel of ‘Hope’ (Part 3).
