Sickening and sad! I have to question this guys core allegiance to America. He is either extremely naive, or he has a different agenda than most of us. We can live with neither. He will not be the next President, especially if we add the strength of Mitt Romney to the McCain ticket to revitalize the conservatives of the party. If they know Mitt can influence and strongly help direct McCain during his 4 years and become President in 2012, this will give a huge increase of vim, vigor, and vitality to this Republican campaign.
I think its critically important. We don’t get many chances of a man of his caliber.
And, I think I addressed the original post much more than you just did.
That’s bull TLG…..It’s not just me my boy…..Millions and millions and millions feel the same way. We need a full fledged conservative on the ticket….one that has name recognition…….and one smart enough to make a conservative contribution over the next few years as VP.
Illinoisguy, Mitt’s not the worst VP pick McCain could make. I can only think of 10-12 better picks off the top of my head. He’s certainly a better pick than Tom Ridge who’s been getting a large share of attention.
This needs to be a headline blog so we can legitimately discuss the merits of Romney as VP. Would someone please post it. It’s extremely encompassing and compelling: Thanks!
TLG and AdamPSU: Here’s how bad Il-Guy’s delusions are about Romney. He has posted in the past that Romney was the best-qualified presidential candidate in the last hundred years. Later he posted that Romney was the smartest person to *ever* run for president.
Which raises the question: Which 19th century presidential candidate was better-qualified than Mitt, though not (of course) as smart?
With that aside: Somebody who has gone that far around the bend about his hero is not going to be deterred by your mere words.
Disclaimer: I have no strong feelings about Romney for VP. He wouldn’t be my #1 choice, but if he were on the ticket, I’d be OK with it.
That’s bull TLG…..It’s not just me my boy…..Millions and millions and millions feel the same way. We need a full fledged conservative on the ticket….one that has name recognition…….and one smart enough to make a conservative contribution over the next few years as VP.
Rombot to English: That’s bull, TLG, it’s not just me: Millions of Mormons feel the same way. What we really need right now is a guy whose conservative credentials reach back approximately two years, and one great enough that he was the least-liked and most-disliked of all of the major candidates in either party. We want him on the ticket so that McCain can lose and he can run again in 2012, because it’s more important to keep trying to push a Mormon into the White House than to save the country from Obama.
Illinoisguy, Mitt’s not the worst VP pick McCain could make. I can only think of 10-12 better picks off the top of my head. He’s certainly a better pick than Tom Ridge who’s been getting a large share of attention.
Even I’ll say that he’s a better pick than Tom Ridge.
It’s kind of ridiculous that Ridge is actually being considered.
Sanford would probably be the safest choice for McCain. Though I’m still holding out hope for Rudy — it’s the only way he’d ever be able to be president; he wouldn’t be viable in 2012.
#15 Kavon - Thanks for stating “I personally think that Mitt is the best choice we could go with at this point.” Please post my earlier link in #12 so we can discuss all those points. I bet you’ll I bet you get 200+ posts on that thread. Thanks again!!
tlg - its not about Mitt being Mormon; its about competency; if it were up to Mitt and his supporters, Mormon, LDS, etc wouldn’t be mentioned any more during the campaign nor during his term. Obviously, others like to bring it up though, you included.
I’m am sure that Mr. Romney is a nice guy, but if he were a true Conservative, he would not have promoted a Canadian style Socialist Health Care system.
OHIO JOE, you obviously haven’t the foggiest idea what you’re talking about. Its not even close to it…….do you even know the first thing about it????? Obviously not.
Romney is setting his sights a little higher than VP these days. There are machinations that McCain may not be the nominee and a few names are being floated as replacements. The best bet is that it will be a governor with good econ credentials to run against the senator.
Obama has to be stopped. If this guy gets elected America will become a sitting duck, just waiting to be attacked.
I sure wish we’d stop the bickering among ourselves and focus on fighting the Dems. We know who our party’s nominee will be and it’s up to McCain to decide his VP. So, let’s not fight amongst ourselves and focus on ensuring the likes of Obama and Clinton never obtain power.
I’m afrad it is you that doesn’t know what you are talking about. Those who live in MA have no choice, but too pay a government premium for health. If that is not Socialist medicine, what is? Let’s start thinking objectively instead of talking non-sence.
Sure. If McCain doesn’t make it, the whole process is thrown open and the delegates can choose whomever they wish, including someone who did not run for president. Huckabee obviously has the argument that he is the guy left standing whereas Romney can argue that he proved he can win contests, he has money, and he can win an election about the economy.
One sign that its not over is that Huckabee has made a formal request for debate. McCain has not responded, but I am sure its not something he wants to do because it conveys the message that its not over.
Just as I suspected!!! You know nothing about it. They don’t have to get into the program if they choose not to. But if they choose not to, then the state will not pay for their bills as they had been before. Those that can afford to have insurance, but refuse to, will no longer be able to turn to the state to pay their bills as they did before. Seems to me thats a huge step away from socialized medicine. Go do your home work on it. I”m not going to baby sit you on it!
Who cares how conservative Romney is? The biggest joke of this election so far has been the mindless (and meaningless) discussion about how conservative someone is. Whatever Romney is, he had incredible spending and logistical advantages in early states and was not able to turn it into votes. Isn’t that what matters?
For those unable to watch or listen to Obama’s reckless message that is steeped in naivete, here’s the transcript:
I’m the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning, and as president I will end it.
Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.
I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.
I will not weaponize space.
I will slow our development of future combat systems.
And I will institute an independent defense priorities board to ensure that the quadrennial defense review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.
Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons.
To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons. I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material.
And I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.
Axel — that’s nutty, and you’re going to set off Il-Guy again (or is that the idea?)
The race is over on Tuesday.
McCain today — 1019 (per RCP
Vermont — 17 (WTA, and McCain will win easily)
Rhode Island — 15 (he’ll probably win all of them, but let’s be conservative)
Ohio — 80 (again, that’s a low-end estimate — he’s winning by 29.5 in the CRP average, which should translate into a sweep of all districts)
1019+17+15+80 = 1131
So he’s sixty short going into Texas, where the recent polls have him over 50% statewide. Even if he just misses the 50% mark, so that he doesn’t get all 41 statewide, he’ll still get most of them (~23-25). Since he’ll take almost every district with that kind of lead, he’ll get at least 2/3 of the district delegates (64 of the 96).
Yes, Aron, like any first time effort, its not going to be perfect. Everyone knew that in advance. It will need to be tweeked, as would almost any state that took on an effort to do something about this huge problem.
Yes, Aron, like any first time effort, its not going to be perfect. Everyone knew that in advance. It will need to be tweeked, as would almost any state that took on an effort to do something about this huge problem.
You may note that is a Boston Globe article. Unfortunately, the tweeking they will do in Massachusetts is after Mitt had stopped steering the ship, so it will probably become more Government controlled under that scenario. But the fact is that lots of people used to get free rides that no longer do, and the government still pays out less than it did before the health care changes were made.
Can, uh, Illinoisguy quit threadjacking? And can some of you other commenters quit taking potshots and Mormons and former Romney supporters? We’re not responsible for Illinoisguy, so take your vitriol and shove it.
The first question I must ask is “Is this clip real - this is not a double, and not some video electronic manipulation is it?” If it is real, this clip should be played day and night in ads as soon as Obama locks up the Democrat nomination.
I finally had a chance to play this and listen to it. I’m with #40 — this is so bad it almost seems to be a trick of some kind. Did he really say this? If so, it’s absolutely killer.
This is bad. Obama wants to ban nuclear weapons? Well hells bells if I were president I’d love to ban nuclear weapons too. But I wouldn’t actually do it because I know damned well Putin and Kim Jong Il and Mamoud Iminajihad have no intention of playing by those rules.
I wonder where our resident Democrats are on this post. Do they think that if we ban nuclear weapons every other country will join hands with us and sing a song?
I’m gonna be crazy here and wonder what it is that is so wrong about what he is saying? Fundamentally, in an ideal world (and don’t lecture me on how this is not an ideal world, I know), shouldn’t we ALL be striving for this? I know that defense spending pushes technology development, and that our military R&D is a MAJOR reason why America has become an economic power. But some of these things that he says should be the hopes if not the firmly held goals of anyone who considers themselves rational, moral, good, compassionate people (i.e. Republicans!)

IllinoisGuy, please give it up with Mitt, okay? Sheeeesh. He might be the only thing that can make McCain lose at this point!!!!

BobH,
My favorite argument on the site was with a Romney supporter who, in all seriousness, argued that Mitt Romney was the best orator since Cicero.
My two-cents on the Veep: I personally think that Mitt is the best choice we could go with at this point.
