In honor of the 35th anniversary of McCain’s release from the Hanoi Hilton tomorrow, the McCain campaign has re-released their awe inspiring video on his POW experience from last March. Included is a moving introduction by McCain’s longtime friend and fellow POW Orson Swindle. Take a look.

I’m sick and tire of McCain and his POW bs.
March 14th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Falz, let me ask an innocent question.
You’re a Democrat right?
I’m tired of Hillary’s experience bs and Obama’s Messiah bs.

Degrading Sen. McCain’s time as a POW is both reprehensible and irresponsible. No matter your politics, McCain is a true American hero no ifs ands or buts about it

This is some little old pee-wee advice, that I wish some way could get to John McCain’s handlers:
I read something today that said McCain can win just by sitting back and letting Clinton and Obama tear each other apart. I DISAGREE. This morning when I woke up (before I even read that) I thought to myself that McCain is going to make the same mistake that Rudy did - - sit on the sidelines and wait (look what that got him).
What McCain needs to do IMMEDIATELY is start to focus on the important issues that matter to most Americans now, such as the economy and immigration, etc. He must grab their attention and show that he is the POSITIVE one in this whole campaign, and contrast himself from the BS going on with the dems.
Hopes that made sense

Joe M,
Amen to that!

Doug, being a POW is not a qualification for the POTUS. Johnny McRinno has make a career in politics because of this, just like John Kerry for being shot in his ass. Again, McCains is not more qualify to lead a war just because he was in a war. McCain is the worst candidate the republican has ever nominated.
AND I’M NOT A DEMOCRAT.
March 14th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Falz, I’m sorry it’s just it’s usually Democrats who are disrespecting the soldiers and their service. I didn’t know we had Republicans who pull that type of nonsense.

I wouldn’t call it “POW bs”, but I agree that McCain needs to find something new to talk about. If John McCain keeps this up, what could be his best weapon against Obama or Hillary will become old and irritating to the American people - and could be used by the Democrats as a past/future comparrison.

Falz is just bitter because Slick Mitt didn’t get the nomination.
March 14th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Patrick,
Just because Falz has a very strong opinion doesn’t mean you have to get ugly. I agree with Joe M that McCain should focus on things that are really important to the American People. It is a little tiring when McCain keeps touting his POW experience, and if anyone says anything about it, they get attacked as unamerican, just like those who bring up anything about Obama’s pastor saying ugly things get attacked as racist.

Ok, ok, ok, ok, ok. Let’s just settle down here a little. It’s not a good thing to get into a Romney/McCain battle here. I’m not happy at all about Mitt not making the nomination either, but tearing McCain down now is not helping matters. If I am going to vote for the man, and I plan to unless he chooses a pro-life running mate, I do not intend to spit before every sentence I say using his name. McCain is as well-liked by his people as much as Mitt is by his. So be considerate. He can do a lot of good for this country. We’ve gotta get over it, folks, and move ahead. Make nice, please.

11 should read pro-choice.

Did you all skip this sentence? “In honor of the 35th anniversary of McCain’s release from the Hanoi Hilton tomorrow, the McCain campaign has re-released their awe inspiring video on his POW experience from last March. ” That’s hardly the equivalent of “touting his POW experience.”

McCain has almost 7 months until the general election day, and so he has a lot of time to get his messages out.
McCain definitely has to get a message out about his plans for the country, his leadership in the Senate, and other ideas not related to his military service. We don’t want him to be compared to John Kerry, whose campaign barely mentioned anything he had done in the 30+ years since he returned from Vietnam.
On the other hand, in 2004, a fair number of Democrats and independents managed to convince themselves that a candidate’s military record is the most important criterion that should be taken into account in a presidential election. And in case any of them took that to heart, I want them to know that McCain served in Vietnam and was a POW for five years.
In fact, if by Election Day, there is a voter in America who doesn’t know McCain was a POW in Vietnam, I will consider that a failing of the McCain campaign. They need to get that message to every single person in this country.
You know how Jay Leno has a segment on “The Tonight Show” where he asks people on the street simple questions about current events, which they usually get wrong? If he asks people, “Which presidential candidate was held as a prisoner of war in Vietnam?” I don’t want any of them to guess Hillary or Obama. Everybody needs to know.
