  1. OHIO JOE Says:

    Great Ad!

  2. JB Says:

That’s good. Question: are these ads web only, or are they running on TV as well?

  3. alaska jake Says:

I’m just amazed that anyone would even rationally consider punishing American oil companies - which employ thousands of Americans and produce oil under strict American legal and environmental standards - but have no problem with increasing our reliance on foreign oil companies - which operate without any EPA or OSHA rules to guide them. Does anyone really believe the Saudis and Russians drill for oil with the safety of their workers and environment in mind? Does Obama really believe that overtaxing American companies will help American workers in any possible way keep their jobs? Does he plan to levy windfall taxes on Yahoo and Microsoft as well, or just the evil oil companies?

  4. sampo Says:

Wow, just when I thought I couldn’t possibly find anymore ways to dislike this Obama clown, I learn he handles an oil like Jimmy Carter. Obama is the gift that keeps on giving…

  5. sampo Says:

    *an oil CRISIS

  6. Matt C Says:

Now this is a great ad.

Obama = Carter is something I’ve been saying for awhile now.

  7. Sean P Says:

Actually, if Obama was no worse than another Carter we should consider ourselves lucky. My fear is he will be our Ehud Barak.

  8. Joel Says:

Not sure if it was my computer, but I could barely hear what Jimmy Carter was saying, and the swirling water effects were annoying. Otherwise, great ad.

  9. Chris L. Says:

Very Good!! Now if Obama will only come out for rationing, then we can further morph him into Carter :) Unfortunately, probably something like half the electorate has no memory of Carter, wind-fall profits taxes, shortages, rationing; but the senior citizens do and they are the highest turnout age group.

  10. PabloZed Says:

I really should find another site because I seem to disagree with a lot here. This ad does nothing for me. Like Joel I could not hear anything, and visually it was irritating. And substantively, just what conclusion am I suppose to reach based on a call for a windfall profits tax? I oppose it (preferring that oil companies be directed to commit certain investments to alternative fuels), but I can’t logically jump from an oil tax to hostages being taken which is what comes to mind when I think about Carter.

  11. Matt C Says:

    Pablo,

The implication is both men faced oil crises, and Obama wants to respond to it the same way Carter did - and everyone remembers the way Carter’s pathetic attempts turned out. Why try it again now?

Of course, the quietest part of the ad is what contained the kicker. So the content of the ad is what’s so good. The actual design of the ad does leave a bit to be desired (sound, graphics).

  12. Matthew E. Miller Says:

Good ad. This windfall profits tax on oil companies is indeed lunacy. Yes, they made 150 billion dollars last year. However, that was a mere 8.4% profit. The manufacturing sector as a whole is higher then that. Tons of industries, which the Democrats don’t see fit to demonize, made larger profits.

  13. SteveS Says:

I agree that windfall profits tax is a bad idea. The problem is, so is the suspension of the gas tax.

So essentially, the ad says, “McCain proposed a bad idea. Obama rejected McCain’s bad idea. And has a bad idea of his own, like Carter did.”

Its pretty effective in a raw meat way, though, appealing to the conservatives who hate Jimmy Carter and who have stock in oil companies.

  14. A.D. Says:

The GOP is in a tailspin….thank God we are finally waking up to your inefficient ways of governing…….any time the GOP takes the White House our national debt goes up, we fight unneccessary wars, exploit people’s fears to keep them at each other’s figurative throats and thus send you into office and finally curtail civil liberties. Amazing that you lost the reddest of red seat in Mississippi….hot-bed of all things that is Republican. Your days are coming to a close. Thank God!
