So I’m at my parents’ house getting ready for a hearing today. I realize that I’ve forgotten an Excel ™ document. No problem, I think. I’ll just print it downstairs.
They have Windows Vista. I can’t find “print.” Seriously.
No problem, I think. I’ll just pull up Help.
I can’t find “Help.”
Grrrrr.

That’s funny Sean, I had to call over one of my coworkers once to find how I could print something. You’ll figure it out though.

Sean, try a Mac. They’re great, especially the newest Intel based iMac. Once you go Mac you’ll never go back!

BTW, does anyone have any thoughts on the new Mac Airs?

From what I’ve heard they only have 1 USB port which is a huge problem for me. Otherwise I would own one this very minute.

I’ve sure struggled with Office 2007’s “ribbons”. I think after 6 months I’m finally getting the hang of where stuff is.

Think of all the resources Microsoft has wasted fighting the DOJ and EU… perhaps they should have just let Janet Reno design their products after all. Of course, you would only be able to print if you held the two female cable connectors together.

BTW: Ctrl+P
It works just about anywhere on any version of Windows in almost all Windows applications.

The Office 2007 ribbons are annoying, but what really bothers me is the changes to PowerPoint and Publisher.
I design a lot of flyers, and I used to rely heavily on the ability to strech and customize text using the “WordArt” feature…which has now been changed so the text cannot be stretched at all.
Way to go Microsoft…you’ve caused me a lot of trouble.

Gotta love the new ribbon interface: inadvertantly complicating your lives through trying to simplify things. They should make a classic mode default or something

That’s Office 2008, not Vista, technically. Vista is a pain when you first start using it - but once you’ve got all your programs installed and you relearn the interface, it’s not too bad. I upgraded even my XP machines to Office 2008 because I needed a feature in Access 2008 (the first time I ever needed Access at all I discovered I needed Access 2008) and yes I am not a fan of the ribbon, but I’ve gradually learned where things are. It’s like they took all the buttons and commands from Office 2003, put them in a hat, shook it up, and dumped it on the ugliest, clumsiest UI ever conceived. I even managed to figure out how to put a print button on the quick access bar next to that thrice-cursed goofy round office button!

Please ignore the rank chauvinism of the recently converted.
Get a Mac.
I’ll never do Windows again!

My complaints with Vista:
* No telnet installed by default, WTF? And when I tried to install with MS Control Panel, never got through the process
* No easy way to get to the run menu
* Navigation seems better in some cases, clumsier in others
* It is slower than molasses unless you have a really beefy machine
* IPV6 installed by default and automatically tries to obtain an IP and then causes problems
Many many more…
