This is really unfortunate. Let’s hope the radiation and chemotherapy works:
Senator Edward M. Kennedy has a malignant tumor in his brain, his doctors said Tuesday.
Tests performed over the weekend at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston indicated that Mr. Kennedy, 76, has a type of cancer known as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe, the upper left portion of his brain. Mr. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts, suffered a seizure on Saturday in Cape Cod and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
The doctors said on Tuesday that the senator was “in overall good condition,” had been walking around the hospital, and had suffered no more seizures since Saturday.
“The usual course of treatment includes combinations of various forms of radiation and chemotherapy,” Dr. Lee Schwamm, the vice chairman of neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dr. Larry Ronan, a primary care physician at the hospital, said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.
The National Cancer Institute says that malignant glioma is the most common form of brain cancer, accounting for about 9,000 cases diagnosed each year in the United States. The prognosis depends on the severity of the tumor, although the institute’s website says it is generally poor.

Ted Kennedy is in my prayers and this is very unfortunate. I dont agree with Ted Kennedy on alot of issues b/c he is a Liberal and i tend to be more of a conservative, but Ted Kennedy is a great man who has endured alot of grief in his life and we should keep him in our prayers. Ted Kennedy may be a Liberal Democrat but he works across the aisle alot to get important things done for the people of this country, he always said that its better to try and get things done then to be divided on the Senate floor over a bill. Ted Kennedy is a great American and i wish him the best recovery.

I second that.

It doesn’t matter what your views are on Ted Kennedy’s politics or even him as a person, this is a sad diagnosis and he will be in my prayers.

In New Hampshire, we recently lost our House Minority Leader to brain cancer. I’m starting to get concerned that this may be an epidemic and might be related to cell phones, but we will see over the next few years.

anyone here know what the survival rate numbers are on this type of cancer?
May 20th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Well, this would be an unfortunate way for his career to end, and unlike liberals who were praising Reagan’s death and openly saying they hope he rots in hell, my prayers are with Kennedy. However, I would not call him a great man. Although he has endured many tragedies in his life, he is a disgusting human being who got away with reckless manslaughter. He paid the victim’s family to keep quiet and never served time, where most people would have served several years in prison.

“anyone here know what the survival rate numbers are on this type of cancer?”
Not good at all. Usually fatal within 2 years - and his is probably worse.
Or at least that is what the radio said.

I will of course pray for the recovery and repentance of Mr. Kennedy… but the key here is repentance. I do not believe he is a good American. Or, more precisely, I do not believe he is good for America.

8-
I don’t believe that somebody who disagrees with me ideologically needs to “repent” to me before he dies.

Eric,I don’t think ideology is what CBL is talking about.
May 20th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Wow, tough diagnosis for the Kennedy family. I wish them well.
May 20th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I sincerely wish him good health. But let’s all be honest here - I’m not going to miss him in a political capacity if he retires from the senate.
May 20th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
I don’t wish him ill, but Kennedy is not a man of good character. The list of civil servants whose reputations he has maligned and destroyed is a mile long.
Not to mention he got away scot free with wreckless manslaughter.
May 20th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Best wishes and prayers for the senator and his family.
May 20th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Look, guys, hate the sin but love the sinner. My prayers go out to Sen Kennedy and his family.
May 20th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Even though Senator Kennedy and I are on different ends of the spectrum I wish him a speedy recovery.
May 20th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Kennedy is a leftover from the old style of American politics - a real political giant.
I can’t stand the man politically, but, lets face it, America won’t be the same without him.
He is currently the second-longest serving senator. Any idea where he ranks on the list historically?

Would Edward Kennedy’s ADVANCED BRAIN cancer treatment be allowed by the British Health System? My buddy in the National Health Service says probably not.
Given his age and advanced cancer, I’ll bet the socialized medicine machine certainly would not have paid for that $10000 helicopter ride that Mr. Kennedy got from his private island paradise to the hospital.
Let’s let Ted go over to Great Britain to have the doctors at the National Health Service treat his cancer.
Of course, I would think that he’d be denied cancer therapy as Ann Marie Rogers (a breast cancer patient) was denied an anticancer drug by the British court. Too bad she was not allowed to buy private health insurance by the socialized medicine folks in England.
Sorry, Ted, no cancer treatment for you. Health care rationing, you know. Just read the fine print in Mr. Obama’s health plan. It will all be clear then.
Also, Ted Kennedy is going to have to eventually answer for Mary Jo Kopechne, in this life or after. Ted, it’s getting about time to fess up to your past.
May 20th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Oh please, don’t pretend Kennedy would have the same national health care as anyone else. Having been in the Senate he has the BEST insurance in the world and it will last his entire life. Even if he had only served 1 month. Not to mention that helicopter ride is government funded because he’s in politics not because he has Blue Cross.

Kennedy has been a malignant tumor on the pysche of America for over 40 years!
40+ years of alcoholism has taken it’s toll, but let his death be as painless as Mary Jo’s!

Senator Kennedy devoted his life to public service. It may not have been exactly the way I would have preferred he do it, but it was still a life dedicated to improving our society. A man of his wealth and background could have done anything else with his life had he chosen to do so (as his father had chosen to do), but Senator Kennedy spent decades working in the best way he believed for the common man, the underpriveledged American and those he felt were victims of the system. For that I commend and honor him. I may only agree with 10% of what he’s proposed politically over the course of his 45+ year Senate career, but I won’t deny his love and devotion for this country and it’s people. Was his a perfect example of a moral life? At this time it’s not for me to judge his personal actions; that’s best left for a higher power to decide. But I will pray for him just the same, and should the worst result befall him, I pray for a speedy and painless end for both the man and his family.

Kennedy is a giant and as someone said there are few giants these days. He has worked tirelessly for the causes of poor and working people, even if some of his solutions were not always what were best. Like all of us, he has stumbled in his personal and professional life, but I will leave an accounting of his sins to providence.
I wish he and his family strength during this time and hope for the best.
Just one word about healthcare. He and McCain have the best healthcare, partly because they are senators and partly beause they are wealthy men. The difference is that Kennedy wants every American to enjoy his level of care, McCain wants you to get what the insurance companies are willing to provide.
