That’s His Story and He’s Sticking to It

Larry Johnson continues to assert that the Michelle Obama tape exists:

I never cease to be astonished by the base ignorance of the Obama crowd. They have spread the word claiming that I said I have the tape and was going to produce it. What? Nope. Nevr(sic) wrote that. They have a reading comprehension problem. If I had the tape I would put it up in a heartbeat. While it is true I am relying on second hand sources, my immediate sources are trusthworty. They are not related to each other. They hold different political views. But all tell the same story–there is a tape of Michelle Obama appearing at a conference with Louis Farrakhan had she says some very disparaging things about white people.

My sources tell me the Republicans who have the tape are hanging on to it and do not (I REPEAT FOR YOU OBAMA CLOWNS) DO NOT want it released now. They want to use it against Barky in the fall. They fear that releasing it now will kill Obama’s political support and open the door for Hillary. The tape, I am told, appears to have been made in June 2004. It was not part of a pulpit service at Trinity. It was a conference. I am waiting for confirmation of the specific conference.

And now we have Beckel and Fund claiming a tape exists and is coming out tomorrow. Would be nice but I don’t know. What I do know for a fact is that the folks who control the tape want to keep it on ice until after the Democratic convention in Denver. Whether they will achieve this is outside my knowledge.

Here are my thoughts:

  • The biggest problem I have with this rumor is the fact that the supposed source of the tape is a Republican operative who was working for a former Republican presidential contender. As I’ve said, the only two candidates who would have had the resources to devote to oppo research on a contender for the Democratic nomination who was not even expected to win would have been Mitt Romney or Rudy Giuliani-and it just doesn’t seem like the style of either two of these candidates to send someone to infiltrate Obama’s church in Chicago. If the claim was that this tape was the work of the Illinois State GOP taken back during Obama’s senate campaign in 2004, I could buy it.
  • Johnson already seems to be backtracking by the tone of this post (I never said that! Obama supporters have a comprehension problem!).
  • The details should have been able to be confirmed by someone by now. How many times have Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan appeared on stage together for gosh sakes! If this tape was real, some enterprising reporter or blogger should have been able to compare schedules and found out if it is even possible that the two have appeared together at the Obama’s church. I have heard innuendo in this regard, but never anything concrete.

Bottom line… I will believe the tape exists when I see it.

Michelle Obama appeared with LF at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference in 2004 in Chicago. Maybe that is what he is talking about?

  3. Jason Bonham Says:

The IL GOP was not taping Obama when he ran for Senate. If they had, they would have used it, but more importantly, they couldn’t even get a candidate to run, let alone someone in his church undercover. And the idea that in the last couple years Michelle O. was doing this is ludicrous, she’s got a foot in mouth problem, but not that big of a problem.

  4. Kristofer Says:

#3 Jason. Inexperienced politicians can do some stupid things. especially when they are not used to the media spotlight.

Kavon, there was a more recent blog Larry posted on this matter that gives more details. His server is having problems again, so maybe you didn’t see it? Here it is:

    Breaking News from HillBUZZ

I am not trying to steal thunder from HillBuzz. That blogger is breaking important news. I’m posting the article in full because, having seen what happened to our site, a link to his will kill his server with the flood of traffic. Until Sunday, I was operating on one server. We’re up to four and barely keeping pace. HillBuzz writes at http://hillbuzz.blogspot.com/

What’s on the Michelle Obama Rant Tape?
    Here’s what’s known so far:

The Michelle Obama Rant Tape was filmed between June 26th - July 1st 2004 in Chicago, IL at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference at Trinity United Church: specifically the Women’s Event.

Michelle Obama appeared as a panelist alongside Mrs. Khadijah Farrakhan and Mrs. James Meeks.

Bill Clinton spoke during the Conference, as did Bill Cosby and other speakers, but not at the panel Michelle attended.

Michelle Obama spoke at the Women’s Event, but referenced Bill Clinton in her rant — his presence at the conference was the impetus for her raving, it seems.

For about 30 minutes, Michelle Obama launched into a rant about the evils of America, and how America is to blame for the problems of Africa. Michelle personally blamed President Clinton for the deaths of millions of Africans and said America is responsible for the genocide of the Tutsis and other ethnic groups. She then launched into an attack on “whitey”, and talked about solutions to black on black crime in the realm of diverting those actions onto white America. Her rant was fueled by the crowd: they reacted strongly to what she said, so she got more passionate and enraged, and that’s when she completely loses it and says things that have made the mouths drop of everyone who’s seen this.

The “tape” is a DVD that Trinity United sold on its website, and possibly offered free for download up until March 2008 when Trinity’s site was scrubbed and the DVDs were no longer offered for sale.

This outburst happened just one month before the 2004 Democratic Convention, when Barack Obama delivered the keynote address.

  6. Matthew E. Miller Says:

I find this whole thing awfully sketchy. Alot of folks are claiming that the 2004 conference Kristopher was indeed the scene of the alleged “whitey” video. Yte, didn’t we see a supposed “transcript” of part of the video the other day, which made specific reference to Jena 6 and Katrina? Did Michelle Obama acquire a time travel machine that allowed her to talk about Katrina and Jena 6, years before the events?

  7. jim Says:

It should be pretty easy to figure out now. The date was June 28, 2004, at 2 PM. It was a women’s forum at a Rainbow/PUSH conference in Chicago. There has to be a record of it. Enough people who were there.

Someone should be able to get to the bottom this fairly soon.

  8. Tony Says:

To say that the tone of Johnson’s post suggests that he is “backtracking” on the existence of the tape is a stretch.

  9. sampo Says:

    I guess I’ve been under a rock… What tape?!

  10. MetroRepublican Says:

sampo, damn! Google Michelle Obama Whitey.

  11. jim Says:

It’s pretty straight forward at this point.

The event onm June 28, 2004 happened. Michelle Obama was there. The event was moderated by two local anchors for the ABC affiliate in Chicago. They know what happened, others in attendance know what happened. There almost has to a video or transcript or report of it somewhere.

On Volokh.com one of the posters who lives in Chicago posted that he drove over to PUSH HQ and asked about it. The guy said that all events prior to 2005 were farmed out to an outside agency to record. That agnecy should be known pretty soon. Once we know that. we should be able to figure this out.

  12. Josiah Says:

Have you heard about the tape that kills your political career?

They say that when you watch it, you see a presidential candidate’s wife sitting next to Louis Farrakhan and ranting about “whitey.” It’s like you’re watching some presidential candidate’s nightmare. Then, after the tape finishes, the phone rings. Someone knows you’ve watched it. What they say is… “Your chance at the White House will be over in seven days…”

  13. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

    Hearmeroar,

Your comment got snatched up by the spam filter initially. I found it and restored it as soon as I saw it there.

    Sorry about that :) .

  14. MWS Says:

Just because a Republican HAS the tape, doesn’t mean a Republican was there to RECORD it. People seem to think that Oppo research means they have to have Guy Noir hiding behind a cloak rack recording it. They could just have easily been contacted by an enterprising lefty who was willing to sell or give the tape up for whatever reason.

In other words, the Republican operative from an ‘08 campaign may have gotten a lucky phone call and bought a tape.

  15. Heath Says:

Lol yesterday this was meant to be at Trinity last year!

Soon it will be back in 1979 in Australia or something.

  16. Heath Says:

Also I thought she mentioned Katrina on it.

She is psychic now is she?

  17. Sean P Says:

Josia: I figured the tape was only available at the Texas Livestock feed show, and only if you could find the person who were able to find Lucy Ramirez, but I admist your idea sounds about as plausible as any of the other theories floating around right now.
