Actually, McCain himself, stated clearly that he didn’t know much about the economy. Picking Mitt would be able to balance his acknowledge weakness. I believe we will have a huge leg up on electability if he adds Mitt and stresses Mitt will be heavily involved in economic and energy policy.

That’s why Romney won’t be on the ticket.
The election will be fought on the economy and Mitt flat out said McCain doesn’t have a clue about same.
End of story.
ps shows the moral character of Mitt to have said that knowing that it would put him off the VP list.

I remember Mitt saying that McCain would need a VP to help him with the economy and that he certainly wasn’t going to be that person!
