    BARACK’S CHICKENS…. ARE COMIN’ HOME… TO ROOOST.

  2. cwpete Says:

Barack talking down to black people? Well Jesse, Barack also talks down to white people. Apparently Obama is ashamed of all Americans since most don’t speak two languages like the Europeans. I just can’t see how any leader can get elected by insulting the voters that way.. Obama condescends to all Americans.

Woah, what more proof does anyone need than this to show liberal infighting. Perhaps McCain does not need to campaign at all. I think Obama will just implode away into an oblivion.

  3. Kristofer Says:

I have it on good word, that Michelle already cut Barry’s ___ off a long time ago.

If Barry did have any, he would have debated McCain in town hall events.

  4. ogrepete Says:

Wow, I guess Jesse Jackson hadn’t had enough headlines over the last six months to suit his enormous ego… :D

  5. sampo Says:

Kristofer, a little over the top there. but barry wasn’t allowed to run for president until michelle gave him permission.

  6. The Great White Autocrat Says:

If I were Obama right now I would be pulling my hair out. How do you make peace with these whackjobs and still look rational enough to be President. Tis a dilema

  7. Bill Says:

Imagine that… Jesse Jackson is a nutcase. Obama would be smart to just ignore it. I don’t see why this is a big deal at all. Does Jackson really hold any sway any more?

  8. Illinoisguy Says:

We seem to have quite a number of Bamabot moles on here nowadays.

  9. DaveG Says:

Obama will likely use this as a Sister Souljah moment to draw a contrast between he and the Left. That would make sense given his run to the center. Obama is a Nixonian politician whose sole goal is to get elected. Since the number of voters who are anti-Jesse Jackson are likely greater than those who are pro-Jackson, and since the pro-Jackson voters have no one else to vote for anyway, Obama will throw them under the bus. Just wait.

  10. Kristofer Says:

Sampo, you just confirmed my point. “I have it on good word, that Michelle already cut Barry’s ___ off a long time ago. ”

Look, I have some friends who are Metrosexuals (not referring to MetroRep), and they are great guys. But I want an Alpha-male as President, no doubt. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, North Korea, tell us we need McCain. When we elected a Metrosexual in 1976, while our planet was in political turmoil, America was not well represented.

  11. jim Says:

Don’t worry, Barack still has the extra one that James Carville said Hillary would be happy to lend him.

  12. JA Pruce Says:

The ironic thing is that the conventional wisdom was that McCain was the one who would have trouble energizing his base. Well now, Obama’s base is demoralized (Hillary voters and now African Americans are jumping ship) while McCain has unified the base. McCain heard us on immigration, he heard us on taxes, he heard us on cap and trade, he heard us on drilling and he has toned down his “agents of intollerance” talk and is rallying the Evangelicals (look for Dobson to suit up and jump on the bandwagon soon). McCain’s base is revved up and ready to go, while Obama’s is shrinking by the day.

  13. Diane Says:

Man, oh man. I mean, this is Jesse Jackson, but even for him this is pretty insane. And, of all places, on Fox! This may ultimately help Obama. I really doubt that his African-American support will be eroded. It’s pretty strong. Nor do I consider this to be symptomatic of any serious in-fighting. For most of the population, for Obama to be distinguished from someone like Jackson is probably helpful. At any rate, Jackson seems pretty intolerant of differing points of view from his own. It’s hard for me to believe that his attitude of disdain for any statements about personal responsibility is widely shared. It does hurt, though, in that it perpetuates that air of controversy that has dogged Obama. Jackson’s sheer presence in the news may be another to achieve that.

  14. Diane Says:

    *enough* to achieve that

  15. JayPe Says:

“But I want an Alpha-male as President, no doubt. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, North Korea, tell us we need McCain. When we elected a Metrosexual in 1976, while our planet was in political turmoil, America was not well represented.”

Why is it a bad thing that Obama consulted with his wife before running for President? Are you guys unmarried or something? Can you imagine telling your wife that you’ve decided to do something that will take two years of your life, putting your family under immense strain?

Talking with your wife is a good thing. Couples like the Obama’s and the Edwardses should be praised for taking that route. The alternative is the Gingrich/Guiliani model (mulpitple divorces)

  16. Diane Says:

#12 Dobson? Do you have evidence to substantiate that, because I would really doubt it.

  17. JayPe Says:

Another model is the Clintons. Where the two stay together driven by a love of power at any cost…

  18. jim Says:

African Americans jumping ship? Maybe Obama will only get 98% of the black vote now instead of 99%.

Meanwhile, it looks like McCain may have frittered and wasted away his best chance to win this election. I read today where Dick Durbin and other dems said they’re open to drilling. My guess is that Obama will move to the right on this and outflank McCain who’s still in love with his pristine paradise above the arctic circle and the tree line.

The energy expolration issue was the one issue where the public was overwhelmingly on the GOP side and McCain has wasted enoug time so that the dems will triangulate and take it off the table. Nice going, maverick.

  19. JayPe Says:

So, looking forward, will Fox News use this as yet more proof that Jackson is nutty, or will they praise his candor & forthrightness in saying things that no other black figure had “the courage” to do?

The latter would be most entertaining.

  20. Aron Goldman Says:

FNC’s Carl Cameron interviewed John McCain earlier today.

“McCain heard us on immigration, he heard us on taxes, he heard us on cap and trade, he heard us on drilling and he has toned down his “agents of intollerance” talk and is rallying the Evangelicals”

McCain is pandering to the base. Does anyone really believe that he has changed his mind on the environment, or on immigration?

Next thing you’ll be saying is that Obama’s right turn to the center is genuinely what he believes…

  23. Kristofer Says:

#15, I am married. He should speak to his wife, children and extended family. I agree. I wasbeing sarcastic to make a larger point.

What was happening in 1976 that media and voters ignored? Iran, oil, and inflation.

What warning signs are there for us today? Iran, oil, and inflation. Do we really want to have another 4 years of this Carter policy? No way!

  24. DaveG Says:

African Americans jumping ship? Maybe Obama will only get 98% of the black vote now instead of 99%.

LOL. Reading the comments to this thread makes me think that conservatives are now entering the “denial” part of the stages of grief.

I mean, if we’re now waiting for black voters to abandon Barack Obama in order to win, we might as well just launch Race42012 right now.

  25. ogrepete Says:

    JayPe #15 - nice post.

It’s absolutely insane to make any huge decision (like spending two years of your life running for President) without making sure everyone is on board, especially the spouse. Romney actually sat down with his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandkids to make the decision.

  26. Pete from Staten Island Says:

I guess we won’t see a Obama/Jackson ticket after all.

  27. Pete from Staten Island Says:

How about McCain/Jackson? The rainbow express heading your way.

  28. Kristofer Says:

Does no one have a problem with the fact that the potential first lady is going around the country attacking the sitting President? I guess it is okay if Michelle Obama gets knee deep in political debates, but not okay for Bill Clinton on behalf of his wife? Media and BLOGGER double standard.

Maybe the young people on this site have not read enough about the years 78, 79, and 80? If you want a President like Carter who sits around and write poetry to his wife and creates White House tennis court schedules for his staff, then vote Obama. I want the guy who the Iranians fear.

  29. Gamecock Says:

#1 That poultry reference was uncalled for. Given the ham Jesse is, this clearly calls for porcine humor.

    But man, GREAT TITLE Aron!

  30. JayPe Says:

It is a very good title Aron.

  31. BarkTwiggs Says:

    #25 Pete,
That’s pretty good! How bout the Straight-Talk Shake-Down Coalition?

  32. sampo Says:

    from the WaPo:

I outed him — I’m the one who outed him on the smoking. That was one of my prerequisites for, you know, entering this race, is that, you know, he couldn’t be a smoking president.”

Will someone please give Obama a cigerette with an American flag printed on it? Obama can’t turn down a flag if someone offers it to him.

On a (slightly) more serious note, I’d LOVE to hear someone ask Obama if he and his wife are planning on getting tested for Hepatitis since he and his wife were VERY vocal about getting tested for AIDS and both diseases are spread the exact same way.

  33. Alex Knepper Says:

30 — Blacks disproportionately have AIDS because of the socially conservative culture in racial minority communities. This keeps them from obtaining safety information, helps myths spread, and keeps people more in the dark about sex. It also makes gay black men ashamed to come out, and many — if not most — end up “on the down-low” having sex with men, even as they date or are married to women. Because this sort of anonymous sex is unsafe, and a lot of disinformation about STDs and AIDS is spread, blacks — and Hispanics, for that matter — end up, disproportionately, with STDs and AIDS. (And teen pregnancies, for that matter.)

  34. Faye Says:

Mr. Jackson has lost his power to be the voice for the african americans. That power has now been passed on to Obama and I think Jackson is mad as hell that he is no longer relevant. This is drawing attention to Obama’s fathers day speech about the need for the blacks to begin to take personal responsibility for their own decisions and actions.
However I have hugh reservations about Obama. He really does remind me too much of Carter.

  35. econ grad stud Says:

Unmarried people tend to have HIV/AIDS at several times the rate of African Americans or Hispanics in general.

You can blame “social conservatism” without evidence. However if that was the case you’d not expect married people (who tend to be socially conservative) to have the lowest rate of HIV/AIDS.

I prefer to deal with reality instead of conspiracy theories and scapegoating.

  36. Alex Knepper Says:

That’s not what I mean, econ grad stud.

If you break down rates of HIV/AIDS, STDs, etc., among men that are white and men that are black or Hispanic, you see higher rates in the latter category. It isn’t a conspiracy theory: cultural conservatism creates a culture of shame around sex. The highest rate of teen pregnancies comes from — you guessed it! — the Bible Belt. The U.S. has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the West.

    HIV/AIDS rates by race: http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/surveillance/resources/slides/race-ethnicity/index.htm

Blacks account for forty percent of HIV/AIDS cases!

Conspiracy theories? Oh, please. Do you have any alternative explanations?

The South, the U.S., and minority races are all the most culturally conservative in the groups that they’re being compared to. The super-blue, socially liberal states have the lowest teen pregnancy rates. The U.S. is the most religious Western country and it has the highest teen pregnancy rates. Minority races are more culturally conservative than whites and they have higher rates of teen pregnancy and HIV/AIDS.

    Some conspiracy.

  41. econ grad stud Says:

The rate of infections of STDs among married men is 0.3% per year. The STD infection rate among unmarried men is 6% per year.

The South happens to have a higher percentage of African Americans hence a higher rate of STDs.

We happen to have more white social conservatives than black social conservatives. We don’t see any white sub-group with the black level of STD infections except intravenous drug users and men who have sex with men.

It’s more likely that being unmarried is a factor in HIV/AIDS than simply race. We don’t see whites having 20 times lower rate of HIV/AIDS. We do see married men have a 20 time lower rate of HIV/AIDS than unmarried men in the United States.

  42. econ grad stud Says:

I’m not sure if you’ll be honest here and admit that there’s no HIV epidemic among white social conservatives.

There is an HIV epidemic among the unmarried of all races (including many homosexuals and drug users).

  43. econ grad stud Says:

Is Alabama a social conservative state?

In Alabama the white HIV rate per 100,000 is 5.
In the rest of the US it is 7 per 100,000.

I’m not seeing how social conservatism is causing an AIDS epidemic among social conservative whites.

Is Tennessee a social conservative state?

It also has a lower prevalence of AIDS among whites than in the rest of the US.

Is West Virginia a social conservative state?
    Is Kentucky?
    Is Georgia?
    Is Arkansas?
    Is Mississippi?

They all have rates of AIDS among whites 20-30% below the US average. I guess none of those whites are social conservatives.

  44. econ grad stud Says:

    Another interesting trend shows up.

In each of those states the black rate of HIV is lower than the average black rate in the rest of the US.

Thanks for having me look at it. IN social conservative states African Americans have lower HIV rates.

  45. Alex Knepper Says:

I’m not sure if you’ll be honest here and admit that there’s no HIV epidemic among white social conservatives.

There is an HIV epidemic among the unmarried of all races (including many homosexuals and drug users).

I never said that there was an HIV epidemic among white cultural (not social; cultural is a better term and I should have used it in the first place) conservatives. There is no HIV epidemic, period.

And why on Earth are you bringing marriage into this? Of course marriage reduces promiscuity and all that it entails.

Ironically, you want to deny to homosexuals the very antidote that you proclaim. And then you deny that you’re anti-gay.

Anyway, I’m still interested in your proposed alternative. And your silence on the teen pregnancy issue is deafening.

  46. Alex Knepper Says:

As for social conservative whites having lower HIV rates, I admit ignorance as to the cause, and won’t pretend that I can pull a solution out of my ass. But the teen pregnancy rates — which involve something far more graspable and have far fewer factors that would alter its occurrence rates — stand as a testimony to my original thoughts.

  47. Doug Forrester Says:

Blacks in socially conservative states have between 20-50% lower rates of AIDS.

I wonder what’s the cultural difference between blacks in Kentucky who have 1/4 the AIDS rate of African Americans in New York state.

Or Mississippi where the AIDS rate is 1/3 of the rate in New York state.

Social conservatism appears to decrease HIV rates. I’m a social conservative. I’ve got no idea what you mean by “cultural conservatism”. Is it a love of rap music, drug use and gangs?

Hopefully after a few more comments you would have backtracked entirely from your silly accusations.

Your argumentation is convincing me you’re a solipsist.

  48. Doug Forrester Says:

I expect higher teen pregnancy rates among social conservatives has to do with an aversion to abortion and not increased promiscuity among social conservatives.

Research by Peter Bearman shows that “social conservative” adolescents have lower rates of STDs and engage in fewer sexual couplings.

  49. Doug Forrester Says:

Higher teen pregnancy rates among social conservatives probably have to do with an aversion to abortion and not increased promiscuity among social conservatives.

Research that the spam filter won’t allow me to cite shows that “social conservative” adolescents have lower rates of STDs and engage in fewer sexual couplings.

  50. Evil Conservative Says:

Following the campaign this long has been a pain in the balls.

  51. Kristofer Says:

    Evil,

Was this meant as a play on words based on the headline of this post? :)

“Following the campaign this long has been a pain in the balls.”

  52. Clarence Claus Says:

Oh my gosh, did I miss a juicy discussion between Alex Knepper and econ grad stud?

  53. Clarence Claus Says:

Today’s Rasmussen poll that will probably be posted later is very friendly to McCain, he’s only behind 48-45 with leaners. I think this thing has turned the corner and is now trending McCain’s way. The Missouri and New Jersey polls were the first two favorable ones we’ve seen in a month or so.

  54. Alex Knepper Says:

Is it a love of rap music, drug use and gangs?

No, it’s a taboo against the inquiry into human sexuality, a bombastic, hallelujah-praise-Jesus religious style straight out of 1950’s Southern culture, and a reverence for the collective.

You have a point, however, in noting the depraved narcissism in the rap culture that’s been embraced by poorer blacks and the black underclass that is incompatible with social conservatism. Perhaps it creates a deadly combination when mixed with the noxious cultural conservatism that’s also abundant.

You still have not responded to my points on teen pregnancy.

  55. Alex Knepper Says:

I expect higher teen pregnancy rates among social conservatives has to do with an aversion to abortion and not increased promiscuity among social conservatives., by the way, is not a response. Pregnancy rates are not the same as birthrates.

  56. Doug Forrester Says:

Often early abortions are not reported as pregnancies. This is especially understandable with teenage mothers.
