McCain’s base is revved up and ready to go, while Obama’s is shrinking by the day.
Man, oh man. I mean, this is Jesse Jackson, but even for him this is pretty insane. And, of all places, on Fox! This may ultimately help Obama. I really doubt that his African-American support will be eroded. It’s pretty strong. Nor do I consider this to be symptomatic of any serious in-fighting. For most of the population, for Obama to be distinguished from someone like Jackson is probably helpful. At any rate, Jackson seems pretty intolerant of differing points of view from his own. It’s hard for me to believe that his attitude of disdain for any statements about personal responsibility is widely shared. The rate of infections of STDs among married men is 0.3% per year. The STD infection rate among unmarried men is 6% per year.
The South happens to have a higher percentage of African Americans hence a higher rate of STDs.
We happen to have more white social conservatives than black social conservatives. We don’t see any white sub-group with the black level of STD infections except intravenous drug users and men who have sex with men.
It’s more likely that being unmarried is a factor in HIV/AIDS than simply race. We don’t see whites having 20 times lower rate of HIV/AIDS. We do see married men have a 20 time lower rate of HIV/AIDS than unmarried men in the United States.

Is Alabama a social conservative state?
In Alabama the white HIV rate per 100,000 is 5.
In the rest of the US it is 7 per 100,000.
I’m not seeing how social conservatism is causing an AIDS epidemic among social conservative whites.
Is Tennessee a social conservative state?
It also has a lower prevalence of AIDS among whites than in the rest of the US.
Is West Virginia a social conservative state?
Is Kentucky?
Is Georgia?
Is Arkansas?
Is Mississippi?
They all have rates of AIDS among whites 20-30% below the US average. I guess none of those whites are social conservatives.

Another interesting trend shows up.
In each of those states the black rate of HIV is lower than the average black rate in the rest of the US.

I never said that there was an HIV epidemic among white cultural (not social; cultural is a better term and I should have used it in the first place) conservatives. There is no HIV epidemic, period.
And why on Earth are you bringing marriage into this? Of course marriage reduces promiscuity and all that it entails.
Ironically, you want to deny to homosexuals the very antidote that you proclaim. And then you deny that you’re anti-gay.
Anyway, I’m still interested in your proposed alternative. And your silence on the teen pregnancy issue is deafening.

As for social conservative whites having lower HIV rates, I admit ignorance as to the cause, and won’t pretend that I can pull a solution out of my ass. But the teen pregnancy rates — which involve something far more graspable and have far fewer factors that would alter its occurrence rates — stand as a testimony to my original thoughts.

Blacks in socially conservative states have between 20-50% lower rates of AIDS.
I wonder what’s the cultural difference between blacks in Kentucky who have 1/4 the AIDS rate of African Americans in New York state.
Or Mississippi where the AIDS rate is 1/3 of the rate in New York state.
Social conservatism appears to decrease HIV rates. I’m a social conservative. I’ve got no idea what you mean by “cultural conservatism”. Is it a love of rap music, drug use and gangs?

Research by Peter Bearman shows that “social conservative” adolescents have lower rates of STDs and engage in fewer sexual couplings.

Today’s Rasmussen poll that will probably be posted later is very friendly to McCain, he’s only behind 48-45 with leaners. I think this thing has turned the corner and is now trending McCain’s way. The Missouri and New Jersey polls were the first two favorable ones we’ve seen in a month or so.

No, it’s a taboo against the inquiry into human sexuality, a bombastic, hallelujah-praise-Jesus religious style straight out of 1950’s Southern culture, and a reverence for the collective.
You have a point, however, in noting the depraved narcissism in the rap culture that’s been embraced by poorer blacks and the black underclass that is incompatible with social conservatism. Perhaps it creates a deadly combination when mixed with the noxious cultural conservatism that’s also abundant.
You still have not responded to my points on teen pregnancy.

Often early abortions are not reported as pregnancies. This is especially understandable with teenage mothers.
