Nancy Continues to Show Her “Leadership”, McCain Shows Us His

The famously abysmal leader of the House shows us her wisdom that is beyond her years again…

“Once again, the oilman in the White House is echoing the demands of Big Oil.

“The Bush plan is a hoax. It will neither reduce gas prices nor increase energy independence. It just gives millions more acres to the same companies that are sitting on nearly 68 million acres of public lands and coastal areas.

“If the President wants to bring down prices in the next two weeks, not the next two decades, he should free our oil by releasing a small portion of the more than 700 million barrels of oil we have put in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

“It’s time to tell the oil industry: ‘You already have millions of acres to drill. Use it or lose it.’”

With congress’s approval ratings at all-time lows, it should be readily appearant that they need to offer new direction - but that will not be the case.

As the market demands, new solutions abound - in spite of Nancy Pelosi.

And McCain getting in a nice jab to his opponent while stating his support of the move by President Bush:

“I know that Senator Obama is opposed to lifting the ban on offshore drilling. I believe the states should continue to decide,” McCain said, according to a pool report. “I hope that, as he has on several other issues, that Senator Obama will change his position and now support offshore oil drilling,” adding that an increase in the nation’s oil supply would reduce costs as the country made the transition to alternative energy sources.

“If we can show that we have significant oil reserves off our coasts, that will clearly affect the futures market and affect the price of oil. I urge Sen. Obama to change his position on this issue,” he said.

You know, we just might win this thing afterall.

I want McCain to dare Barack Obama to look into the camera is say “read my libs -no more offshore drilling.” We may need that footage in the Fall. Who’s with me?!

    *grin* - Im in… ;)

Ok, wait. Is Spkr Pelosi actually saying that the best solution for dealing with gas prices is to threaten oil companies with losing drilling rights in areas they don’t deem it worth it to drill in, even at today’s prices? Talk about cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face! It reminds me of the very successful strategy in the primaries of telling FL and MI to move their primaries or not get counted. Yeah, that worked out really well for them, didn’t it…

    “use it or lose it”

hasn’t the “lose it” clause already been imposed with China and other hostile countries drilling off our coast?

This is good. It continues to give a stark contrast with the Dems and the Repulicans. Probably our only chance to beat Obama is to force the American people to choose a side and so far the Democrats continue to put forth very weak sides. Eventually the popularity of Obama will wear on a few people with responses like this from Pelosi.

Its a good political argument, but its bad policy. Bringing more oil on line allows politicians to kick the can down the road.

  7. bethtopaz Says:

If McCain and the RNC ‘drill’ the theme “Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less” Americans will think positively of President Bush and John McCain everytime they fill up their gas tanks.

If Pelosi and company would do a mouse turd’s worth of research, they’d discover that an oil company doesn’t just get land one day and drill the next. They do investigative test drills in dozens of spots to first determine if there’s any oil at all. Then, assuming they even find anything (which doesn’t often happen), they do further, deeper testing to determine if there’s enough oil down there to set up a rig. Even after that, they need to see what type of oil it is - not all oil is equal and not all is worth drilling. Finally, once all testing is complete and they determined that there is enough good grade crude to drill, only then will they set up drilling rigs to begin pumping. Under current rules, they must do all this within just 10 years of the government takes back the land.

So what Pelosi is saying makes no sense. There already is a limit on how long the oil companies can hang onto the land. And on top of constricting that limit further, Pelosi’s gang also wants to levy windfall taxes to boot. Plus, they claim that drilling in ANWR won’t help lower prices, yet they want us to begin releasing oil from the Strategic Petrolium Reserves (nevermind what will happen if another Katrina or a trigger-happy Iran hits and we REALLY need that emergency oil).

And all this is supposed to help energy prices come down?

Come on McCain, this is an easy one.
