An independent conservative group that worked on behalf of President Bush in 2004 is planning to begin broadcasting nationally next week a commercial that attacks Senator Barack Obama as a flip-flopper.
The non-profit advocacy group, Let Freedom Ring, is planning to spend several hundred thousand dollars to broadcast the commercial over several days beginning Tuesday, according to Colin Hanna, president of the organization.
The group has already obtained clearance to broadcast the advertisement on CNN and MSNBC and is seeking approval from several networks to make a national advertising purchase, Mr. Hanna said. But it is unclear how many spots the group could purchase, or how much impact it could have, by going the unorthodox route of a national buy.
I’m up early to watch “The Open Championship,” where a senior in golf years could do something quite amazing.
The storyline drives sports and Greg Norman is the story.
The storyline in politics right now is Obama’s foreign trip. Video of him meeting military commanders, troops and a provincial gov led the network news and featured prominently in the local newscasts. It was all over cable and the newspapers. I checked the headlines at 5:30 am and the top story is that Obama had breakfast with troops and lunch with Karzai. He will probably be in Iraq by our evening news.
Why in the world did McCain and the GOP decide to attack Obama for not going to Iraq while he still had time to go? Obama could not have made this trip after the convention and any points scored over the past couple months seemed to evaporate yesterday. For the first time I saw McCain’s ad saying “Obama hasn’t been to Iraq in years” on a local station and it seemed so out of touch when I knew Obama was in Afghanistan and on his way to Iraq. Indeed it made McCain sound petty. That ad should be pulled now.
So the question is, what is McCain’s strategy for the week. He is suppose to focus on domestic issues, but can he really do that with the media focused on Iraq and Afghanistan? McCain supposedly retooled his campaign recently. Well, this week is a good test to determine whether the new team is up to the task.
The voice on that bothwaysbarack spot is a great. It’s fun and makes you think instead of the usual tough guy, scary, over the top stuff they usually pick!

Sampo,
Sorry, I didn’t realize you had provided a link to it. I actually spotted this ad while doing “oppo research” at TPM.
But, since you did point it out before I posted it…

Obama was always planning to go over the summer from way back in the winter and spring so it’s not like he only went because McCain mentioned it.

With Rudy as governor for NY in 2010, he could very well be set up for press in 2016? How old will he be by then?
