  1. MVRed.com Says:

Hire Hannity as your ad guy… These ad’s aren’t that bad, but they aren’t that good either. The most effective one was the gas price one from a week ago, but they could’ve done a better job by showing Obama saying “More drilling will not lower oil prices.”

  2. Adam Says:

The only quibble with this ad is that the people that would most disapprove of everything Brittany and Paris stand for, probably wouldn’t recognize their faces on TV anyway.

  3. fredo Says:

Obviously, McCain hasn’t gotten the memo that many–and maybe most–Americans consider celebrity a cardinal virtue. If Obama is popular, isn’t he, by definition, ready to lead?

American democracy and 6th grade student government: not that different after all.

  4. Alex Knepper Says:

I don’t like this ad at all.

  5. Mark Says:

    Fire the ad team!!!

  6. Mark Says:

    QUESTION…

If McCain loses (likely), do you think his VP will have a better or worse chance of being the GOP nomination in 4 years?

  7. MetroRepublican Says:

    Alex/Mark, why not?

I like the strategy to make Obama into a charicature of himself.

  8. Brian H. Says:

I do like the jolly smile on Obama’s face while it says, “higher taxes.” it makes His Worshipfulness look like a clown.

In other news, I’m hearing a rumor that Obama has the power to make the Sun burn eternally and to eliminate all meteors and comets from the universe. Is this guy great, or what?

  9. Alex Knepper Says:

8 - But the ad then focused on gas prices and it mentioned extremely unspecific comments without any references or explanations.

And as for the caricature bit, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan might be comparisons that are too crude to be effective.

  10. Brian H. Says:

Alex- agreed, I thought the Spears/Hilton references were quite confusing. I also agree with #3’s thoughts about celebrity being highly valued in America. It’s a backfire to call him the greatest celebrity in the world. People want that, regardless of his positions.

  11. Brian H. Says:

#6- Mark- worse, and, if he/she did somehow win the nom, it would be harder to beat Obama.

  12. Tom Says:

Wasn’t Brittney invited to the 2004 Republican Convention??

Citing Spears’ “lesbian” kiss with Madonna, her “general immodesty,” and her annulled marriage to a childhood friend, the group is urging Republicans to call the GOP’s convention hotline to protest any appearance by Spears.

Response to the e-mail has been “overwhelmingly positive,” the group’s executive director, Peter LaBarbera, tells The Scoop, though “a few people have argued that the Democrats have all the Hollywood celebrities so we need her star power, but I think that could be played to the Republicans’ advantage. . . . [Many] Americans are sick of celebrities’ political views being shoved down their throat.”

  13. Emtee Says:

    Terrible ad.

  14. Matt C Says:

Gotta agree with Alex and Mark on this one. I don’t like this ad at all. I hope they had it focus-group tested before airing it, and I hope the results of those focus groups showed that a majority of people are not like me.

  15. DSkinner Says:

I don’t understand the point of the ad.

Are they trying to cede the point, hey we know you will like Obama more, everyone does. But hey he wouldn’t be a very good president.

That was my take, and even though it is absolutely true, I don’t like it one bit.

  16. Tom Says:

The ad is in part targeted for social conservatives.

  17. RayinNH Says:

Funny ad - 3 weeks ago McCain was against Off Shore Drilling and just this past Sunday he said he was new taxes were not off the table to help Social Security continue.

  18. Aron Goldman Says:

    Ray,

It’s no secret you’re not a member of the McCain Fan Club, but a little honesty would be appreciated.

It’s been 9 weeks, not three, since McCain last expressed opposition to offshore drilling. And, it’s been over six weeks since McCain came out in support of lifting the federal moratorium on offshore drilling.

Yesterday, McCain was asked at a townhall meeting in Sparks, Nevada whether he would ever raise taxes.

“No” was the senator’s succinct answer.

Today, in Colorado, McCain again sought to reassure voters that he opposes tax increases, saying: “I want to look you in the eye: I will not raise your taxes nor support a tax increase. I will not do it.’’

  19. mary Says:

I read some article today that Mitt Romney will not be McCain’s VP. Romney will continue to support McCain.
I don’t like the ad. It is negative.

  20. Mark Says:

Mary, you can find 5 articles on why he will and 5 on why he won’t be vp on any given day. The vp will be like the second coming, “nobody knows the when, where, and in this case we dont even know who will be coming”.

  21. FredsFighter Says:

Do not like this ad at all.

  22. nyc.indy Says:

    horrible ad.

Does McCain need to do this to win? Prob not.
