  1. Bryan Says:

Eric Cantor seem’s like a pretty smart fellow and i think would be a great pick for Senator McCain. He seem’s to really know his stuff and from what i’m hearing the guy is sqeekey clean and spring time fresh when it comes to his background and personal life.

ericcantorforvp.com is also an interesting site to learn more about Eric Cantor of Virginia.

  2. Falz Says:

    Another Obama flip flop: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D92BJ5O00&show_article=1

  3. mary Says:

I don’t think it going to be Cantor. If McCain pick Cantor as his VP-he will lose the election. It is the news media are doing the story. He might make the announcement at the GOP Convention next month.

  4. Greg Says:

MAKING VP announcement at Convention will not work cause I am tell you this the dems would have a VP on the campaign trail and mccain needs not to wait that lomg. The dems are must likely hours/ days a way from there vp announcement MCCAIN can’t wait till SEPT 1 IF he does he better walk back to phoniex sad to say plus Mccain need VP soon so he can start raising money!

  5. Alex Knepper Says:

I’ll be strongly disappointed if it’s Cantor. A representative? Honestly. Sure, he’s ideologically sound, but what’s he ever done?

McCain won’t pick him for that reason. He’s not a game-changer. He’s a generic pick.

  6. matt Says:

Cantor was a good boy and shut up when asked about Veep prospects. Kaine could learn something…

  7. Another Bob Says:

Admittedly, my reaction is Eric, who? Granted Tom Ridge, Tim Pawlenty, Haley Barbour, Bobby Jindal, etc might not be world famous, but they do have some name recognition and are known for several accomplishments. I am not saying that I would not support McCain chosing Cantor, but I would need to be “introduced” to him and to his accomplishments.

What I would like to know is:

Where does he stand on key issues. Ie, offshore drilling/energy, War on Terror/Iraq, Trade, Taxes, Second Ammendment, etc?

How is he going to help McCain win?

Will he absolutely guarantee we win Virginia come Hell or high water?

Will Americans (including myself) have a chance to get to know about him before the election?

Will he be able to bring some appeal and pizazz to the ticket or will we be left with two competent but uninspiring candidates? (I am thinking Jack Kemp here).

  8. Another Bob Says:

Please not that I didn’t mean to suggest in my above post that McCain is uninspiring. I think he is very inspiring, but he does not seem to connect with voters and generate excitement the way that Obama does. We need a VP who can make people excited to vote Republican.

  9. Greg Says:

this cantor man might not even help win his own state WE CAN”T AFFORD A john edwards kind of VP PICK!. Remember john edwards couldn’t even BRING HIS STATE IN 04!

  10. craig Says:

    Eric Cantor ?
Say Bill Miller, Jim Stockdale, Dan Quayle, Geraldine Ferraro. All game changers, according to the MSM at the moment ( none of who ever voted Republican )

  11. Another Bob Says:

Greg # 9: That is certainly right about Edwards not bringing in NC. I don’t demand that the VP bring in his state specifically, but he should be able to at least help us win somewhere.

Ie: Romney - won’t flip MA but might help in MI.

Pawlenty - may or may not flip MN (probably would if it was within 1-5 points without him) but would probably help in MI, OH, and perhaps PA and WI.

Carly Fiorina - probably won’t flip California but could appeal to women voters nationwide.

Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal - probably guarantees that we win their respective states (which we should anyway). Might help elsewhere by simply being female and non-white respectively.

Giuliani - won’t flip NY or Conn. Might flip NJ and PA, has nationwide name recognition.

Eric Cantor - I won’t know until I find out more info.

  12. Joel Says:

Cantor has no executive experience and no notable achievements as a legislator or in the private sector, why on Earth is he a viable VP pick?

  13. Greg Says:

PLUS this dude is not even in senate or congress in DC is he?

  14. Texas McCainiac (Formerly, Texas Conservative) Says:

    Greg,

You are very hard to take seriously…….
Yes, Cantor, a US Rep from Virginia is a member of Congress which, you may or may not be aware, is located in Washington, DC.

  15. Illinoisguy Says:

Texas, you can laugh at Greg, but it brings out a good point; that if you were to call people and ask who eric Canot is, 99% could not tell you. If McCain intends to use any of this unknown type for a VP, he can not wait much longer because the public will need to get to know him/her, and right now they don’t have the foggiest idea who most of these people are.

  16. Texas McCainiac (Formerly, Texas Conservative) Says:

    #15 Illinoisguy,

I completely agree! Even your post shows how unknown Cantor is. You, who are easily in the top 10% of Americans when it comes to knowledge of the political scene refer to him as “eric Canot,” which is clearly not his name. I also believe Cantor would be a horrible choice; I was simply amused by Greg’s comment.

  17. Greg Says:

I just think Mccain needs to come out with a bigger bang kind of VP announcement then this I am near VA and I don’t ever hear him in this area How they heck is CO MO NM ect will know mccains VP?

  18. Texas McCainiac (Formerly, Texas Conservative) Says:

    #17 Greg,

Again, I completely agree with your point.

  19. Greg Says:

I just saying that you got to give it to mccain when he pounds away at it when he says obama is untrained and basically this job is not on the job training kind of job but If he puts cantor on then he’s got an untrained VP in the VP spot just saying…

  20. Chrystina Says:

I cannot and will not vote for a team that the religious right hand picks. I will not supporty bigotry in any form. Period. I would rather lose the election, than continue to allow these bigots to wreck havoc with their biased view of who the can support - on the basis of religion. Sorry folks. My vote will not happen if McCain does bows to the alter of the bigots.

  21. Texas McCainiac (Formerly, Texas Conservative) Says:

    #19 Greg,

Exactly. A pick such as Cantor or any other political light-weight will serve to undermine his message of solid, unwavering experience. You are completely right.

  22. Falz Says:

Another Bob (#11), Giulini couldn’t flip more than 4% of the republican base, how the heck would he flip NJ?.

  23. Another Bob Says:

Falz # 22. This is why I said “might”, not “will”. Giuliani does have name recognition in NJ. Based on recent elections, NJ does not lean to the left as far as other northeastern states tend to. Many of the blue parts of NJ are in suburban NY and Philly. If Giuliani could help McCain make inroads in this region then it is possible that NJ could flip.

  24. Another Bob Says:

    # 20 Chrystina. Who would you define as the alter of the bigots?

#16 Greg says: “If he puts cantor on then he’s got an untrained VP in the VP spot just saying…” You said it right, Greg. McCain has said before that he would pick someone who would be qualified to actually serve as President. Sorry, I do not have a link.

  25. Another Bob Says:

    # 20 Chrystina. Who would you define as the alter [sic]of the bigots?

#16 Greg says: “If he puts cantor on then he’s got an untrained VP in the VP spot just saying…” You said it right, Greg. McCain has said before that he would pick someone who would be qualified to actually serve as President. Sorry, I do not have a link.

  26. Greg Says:

If He wants a EXPERIANCE VP to match OBAMA PICK RUDY HE WILL TEAR OBAMA’s VP UP IN THAT VP DEBATE and he helps in most swing states!!

  27. Texas Says:

#20 I think you called these people evangelical taliban on another post. Now religious bigots. There are catholics, protestants, jews, muslims, budhists, and even atheists who believe that abortion is wrong, that homosexual marriage is wrong. That has been a part of the republican platform for a long time. This is not part of the democrat platform. While the republicans need to expand that platform to include poverty and good stewardship of the planet, they will be remiss if they decide to leave off prolife and pro-traditional marriage. Those religious bigots, as you call them, are letting McCain know that he needs to keep the republican platform conservative and not let it become moderate or liberal on the social issues. By choosing a Ridge, Rice, Lieberman, and yes a Romney, these religious profamily leaders would need to tell their constituents that both the democrats and republicans do not represent their values, and they should look outside the two-party system for a candidate, or just stay home. As has been stated by many, but the Romney supporters have not comprehended, Romney flipped on these issues to run for president. One only has to look at youtube and the baywindows edition of the paper (1994 and 2002) to see Romney’s former beliefs on these issues. If you are a Romney supporter, you think his flip is fine and you believe him and think he is sincere. But if you are not a Romney supporter, you find him to be disengenuous. Personally, I like how Rudy handled the social issues. He was honest. He said you might not agree with where I stand, but I am being honest about it, and lets find areas where we agree. After watching Romney in the many youtube clips, I did not believe that he is now a stauch believer in prolife and protraditional marriage. That does not make me a bigot, just not a Romney supporter.

  28. Greg Says:

I keep hearing on TV today mccain should wait on vp but today I heard he might wait till he gets to the convention why wait that late to announce vp I would think he would want a VP on the campaign trail with him am I right ?

  29. Texas McCainiac (Formerly, Texas Conservative) Says:

    #28 Greg,

I actually tend to think waiting till the convention would be a brilliant move. It still gives him plenty of time with his VEEP and builds anticipation and media attention leading up to he convention. Imagine the coverage if McCain doesn’t let out a peep and then at the convention comes out with a game-changing choice like Palin, Fiorina, Hutchison, Powell, or Leiberman. Additionally, he’ll have the enormous advantage of knowing Obama’s pick which will allow him to make a choice that could crush Obama’s. PLEASE wait for the convention McCain!!

  30. Greg Says:

Do you all think we Will get at least a obama vp announcement this week?

GOP Nominee
