I just received this in my inbox:
McCain Team -
Americans across the country are feeling the effects of high gas prices and our need to expand domestic oil production.
John McCain says we need offshore oil drilling and we need it now. Senator Barack Obama has consistently opposed offshore drilling - calling it a “gimmick.” Senator Obama’s solution to high gas prices is telling Americans to make sure their tires are inflated.
Today, I’m asking for your help in putting Senator Obama’s “tire gauge” energy policy to the test. With an immediate donation of $25 or more, we will send you an “Obama E nergy Plan” tire pressure gauge. Will simply inflating your tires reduce the financial burden of high gas prices on your wallet?
It’s clear Senator Obama has no plan to address the energy challenges we face as a nation. He has said no to offshore drilling, no to expanding domestic drilling and no to nuclear energy. He has no plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
John McCain is prepared to lead our country as president to break our dependence on foreign oil with real solutions. John McCain believes we should lift the federal ban on offshore drilling, enabling you to decide where we drill for oil.
But John McCain won’t be able to enact these policies without your help in electing him as our next president.
Please help us put Senator Obama’s energy plan to the test - donate $25 or more for your very own “Obama Energy Plan” tire pressure gauge.
Th anks, as always, for your support.
Sincerely,
Rick Davis
Campaign ManagerP.S. Our next president’s energy policy will need to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. John McCain believes we need offshore drilling now. Senator Obama’s plan is calling on Americans to check their tire pressure. We’re asking for your help in testing out Senator Obama’s energy plan. With your donation of $25 or more right now, we’ll send you a tire gauge to test for yourself, Senator Obama’s “tire gauge” energy policy.

I donated $100 to get one. Ha.

I’m glad McCain didn’t bite on pointing out Obama’s latest flip on drilling. Keep the pressure up. Make Obama openly say he was wrong about domestic drilling - just like the surge. If he says he was wrong, then you can see for yourself you can’t trust his judgment and he is not a leader. If he can’t bring himself to admit he was wrong - just like the surge - then point that out and say a real leader would admit mistakes and we don’t need another POTUS that can’t admit mistakes. It’s a great issue!
I also love how they ridiculed Obama’s tire gauge line. I saw that Obama said that over the weekend and I was waiting for it to end up in a McCain campaign video.

If my dad wasn’t a loose, uncompromising liberal, I could definetly get one of those…sigh

I have been donating already, and will likely do so again. Giving out tire guages might sound like a gimmick, but it may turn out to be a brilliant fund raising tactic. I myself might donate 25 bucks to get one.

It is a gimmick, but its funny and might generate some news stories.

Good point Terry #5. McCain needs to “inflate” the amount of news coverage that he recieves.

#6 Another Bob,
Keep trying! You’ll get a decent pun in eventually.

Aside from being a gimmick, energy policy is one topic that will not “get old” in this election cycle. This topic provides McCain with a specific issue that is quicly becoming more salient. Generic claims (Ie, Obama is inexperienced, McCain is four more years of Bush, etc) wear out their welcome quickly. McCain might not be able to play the flip-flop card for the next three months, but he can play the energy card as long as he wants.

This is great! I just donated … just to get one of these. Who knows? It might end of being a collector’s item, especially if Obama loses the General Election.
Plus, I want to encourage McCain and his campaign that they’re on the right track.
Drill Now. Drill Here. Pay Less!

It’s funny, but you all are convinced McCain has a good energy policy? You might need to save that $25 in order to afford cap ‘n trade.

Drill here! Pay the same!

Drill here! Pay the same!
So, even if we do pay the same, would it not be better to have the money stay in the U.S.A.?

Obama’s energy policy: Turn out the lights and pray for wind
August 4th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
The thing that has turned me tepid on McCain was his support for Cap’n Trade. And it still puts serious doubts in my mind. Sen. McCain, put down the Greenpeace bong and step away!
That said, two things have convinced me that Obama is a serious, hard-core, urban/academic leftist hardliner.
The first was his speech in front of the phallus celebrating Prussian militarism in Berlin. It demonstrated how little appreciation or even acknowledgment there is of basic history on the left. Bam was also speaking over the heads of the assembled to address the American hard left. All that gag-inducing collectivist claptrap about tearing down walls and building bridges. What? Urban architecture as policy? Why didn’t he tell everyone that American leaders defeated and squashed Prussian militarism, effectively removing the batteries from that Siegessäule dildo! Yes, Barry, Berliners have a hard-on for you.
The most recent was his ad attacking McCain by claiming he’s “in the pockets” of Big Oil. His plan to expropriate and confiscate profits from oil companies is textbook modern Marxism as found on the left-most half of the Democratic party. After soaking the presumed rich, he plans to play Robin Hood and give the funds to the poor. The whole ad could have been produced by MoveOn or Kos. And the very ideas contradict his recent posturing as a “centrist” politician. From now on, I’m listening closely to everything that Bam says to find the caveats and loopholes that indicate he’ll drop that centrism to turn hard left just as soon as he’s conned voters into thinking he’s at America’s political center.

It sounded like Obama proposed releasing 70 million barrel from the strategic oil reserve today.
I’m hoping McCain jumps on that one as well. If you are using energy as a national security platform, you could make a lot of headway by explaining the need for the reserve and how it is a terrible idea and against national security to do that.

CNN Video: Romney calls Obama ‘dishonest’
Former GOP candidate Mitt Romney says Barack Obama’s ad is dishonest and ‘below the belt.’

This is a brilliant tactic, and will work well politically. Having said that, Obama is actually correct on this issue. That’s correct in real life, despite the political backlash.

I agree with JayPe. This may make good headlines, but Obama is correct on the issue. Keeping your tires properly inflated can really help with gas mileage. McCain should side with Obama on this one.

Also keeping your hands and arms inside the car while you drive and no little surf containers on top can really help, guys. Duh.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
You guys are so lame. I am going to donate money to the Obama campaign to get one of those clever tire guages. You people should marketing something useful like sunscreen, to promote McCain’s health care plan. Uh, scratch that. I forgot he doesn’t have one.
