We don’t have to worry about North Carolina trust me, it will be a solid McCain come November i assure you, but it’s good to see McCain pulling away. I say he wins by at least 8 points on election night.

  2. Jonathan Says:

All of Dixie will remain solid including FL, GA, NC and VA, regardless of who Obama picks as a running mate.

  3. Alex Knepper Says:

Why is Meg Whitman at 6.5 on Intrade?

  4. jim Says:

SUSA: McCain up 50-44 in IN

He now leads in the electoral vote site chart 263-262 with VA still as a tie

Wow, just about every state out there, even the dem ones like NY and MN are showing movement towards McCain

With VA looking more and more key, I think Kaine might just be the choice

  5. Alex Knepper Says:

He would be beyond foolish to pick a veep based on August numbers, jim.

  6. jim Says:

I agree, but potential states seem to be reverting to form. VA is clearly one taht he wants big time. If he wins VA he wins the election. If he loses VA and it’s called early, that’s bad news for him.

My comment was more about McCain’s improvement in IN than Kaine.

If you go to electoral vote.com, McCain is significantly outperforming Bush from 2004.

  7. Alex Knepper Says:

If things are really reverting to form, then he has no chance in Virginia, anyway, and would do better to go with an across-the-board great pick, especially since Kaine doesn’t even guarantee Virginia in the first place.

Why would Zinni be less effective in Virginia than Kaine, anyway?

  8. jim Says:

Also, after all these recent polls that show McCain improving in red states and consolidating conservative and GOP support, for him to pick a pro choice VP would be a monumental blunder.

He needs to build on his base support and find a way to reach out to independents, mainly through himself rather than the VP. He needs the VP to be conservative and prolife and pro gun to lock down his base.

  9. Alex Knepper Says:

I think McCain will do what he wants to do, jim. That’s just who he is. That’s why I think that a Lieberman pick is probably most likely. We wouldn’t even be talking about this pro-choice VP issue if McCain didn’t badly want to pick one.

  10. Alex Knepper Says:

That is to say, rather than nipping it in the bud: “No, no, no, no, the VP will be pro-life; McCain has repeatedly reiterated his commitment to pro-life values”, etc — but that’s not what we’ve heard from the McCain camp.

    McCain wants Lieberman badly.

  11. KnightHawk Says:

Good another sign (think this is number 3) that NC is where it should be. (relatively anyway)

Has BO pulled out of NC yet? Hope he’s still wasting some cash there.

  12. Another Bob Says:

Alex # 9: I think you are right that McCain will pick whoever he truly wants
not whoever the pundits think he should. This may or may not be Lieberman, but
I guarantee you that Senator McCain will not enter into any kind of unhappy
political marriage for any supposed political gain. In my humble opinion, Senator
McCain is close enough to catching Obama that he does not need to rock the boat
with a flamboyant pick. He can afford to pick somebody safe if he chooses.

  13. Another Bob Says:

KnightHawk # 11: I am okay with Obama waisting cash there. I just hope that McCain
    does not take the bait.

  14. Bryan Says:

McCain does not want Lieberman so you can just put that to rest. John McCain wants a man who can take over the country on a moments notice, a man that he has full faith and confidence in and someone who is a true conservative republican who is going to lead the party into the future, and although he respects Lieberman he is not going to be picked, the man that is going to be picked, and who was always the one going to be picked is the best Governor in office today…..TIM PAWLENTY!

    MCCAIN/PAWLENTY!

  15. MacisBack08 Says:

Obama was in Raleigh tonight, haha. He’s been to NC many times, spending good amounts of cash there. Only been to Raleigh basically… its the only area of the state to go for him.

  16. mary Says:

    Obama will lose NC.
