The timing of McCain taking the lead is perfect. It puts more pressure on the DNC meeting to be absolutely flawless, and it won’t be, and it will make Obama look even less fit to lead. You don’t want to head into a convention slumping, but that’s exactly where Obama finds himself. And he doesn’t have a sexy enough pick to rescue his current slide and change the narrative, except maybe Hillary, and I’m saying it’s too late for that unless he had already decided to drink the Kool-aid on that one.

An exciting time to be a Republican, my friends.

[...] Posted by: Flap in Barack Obama, John McCain Graphic Courtesy of Electoral-Vote.com A number of polls are out today that show John McCain with a slight lead over Barack Obama. This is a dramatic turn [...]

    Obama’s brother found living in a hut….

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/barackobama/2590614/Barack-Obamas-lost-brother-found-in-Kenya.html

I would like to see Obama provide some ‘hope and change’ for his brother and leave the rest of us alone.

  4. Laurent Fourier Says:

    Brian H,
I never thought I would live to see the day where Hillary Clinton is considered a ’sexy’ pick.

  5. Adam Says:

Hillary 2008 is way sexier than Hillary 1992.

  6. matt Says:

obama has to now turn negative, and his entire appeal is built on his ‘above-the-fray’ image. obama is in trouble, and i know his supporters think they have an edge in organization. not so. obama is trying to organize red states like virginia that have built in rnc-state party orgs ready to go.

just think, the numbers are this close, and the bradley-effect is not even factored in, obama could be behind by even more.

  7. bob Says:

#5, Obama went negative last week, the media is ignoring it. Go figure. He is running extremely negative ad’s against McCain in Ohio and elsewhere, but only the media reports on McCain negative ad’s.

  8. Clarence Claus Says:

The crosstabs look pretty favorable for McCain. Even though a very slight majority thinks the Iraq War was not worth fighting, they still say they trust McCain more on it. On the economic side, voters say Obama cares more about people like me, but only by a slim margin, troublesome for a Democrat. This is a very close race though. I wouldn’t yet say McCain has the upper hand, but he’s in good shape.

  9. Clarence Claus Says:

McCain usually is able to get away with negativity because he comes across as genuine. I know he ran some negative ads in the primary season and did not get a lot of heat for it.

  10. Illinois Republican Says:

    McCain is pulling ahead.

  11. Kristofer Says:

These are the cross-tabs that stood out to me.

    - Only 51% of the country believes invading Iraq was a mistake(wow)

    - A clear majority of the country now wants to drill in ANWR (wow!)

    - Most American’s support McCain’s Iraq withdrawl plan

    - The gap between the Democrats and Republicans in congress is closing

    - Michelle Obama has very high negatives

    - A majority of American’s say their personal economic situation is good or excellent

  12. Aron Goldman Says:

    Internals that caught my eye…

Who do you think is in control of Congress?
    Dems 56%
    GOP 27%

This is not an opinion question, but a test of one’s knowledge. McCain’s team has to work to move the Democrats’ number from 56% to at least 75%. Highlighting each day, until they act, of the persistent obstruction to offshore drilling by the “Democrats in control of Congress” should do the trick.

Do you believe that the situation in Iraq has gotten better, stayed the same, or gotten worse – over the past six months? (Results from May ‘08 in parentheses)

    Gotten Better 56% (32%)
    Gotten Worse 15% (30%)
    Stayed the same 24% (35%)

McCain: ‘I’ll lose if I can’t persuade voters that the war in Iraq is succeeding.’ (February 25, 2008)

    Job well done, John.

Who better represents this quality: Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama?
(results from May ‘08 in parentheses)

    IS A STRONG LEADER
    McCain 52% (48%)
    Obama 37% (43%)

Who better represents this quality: Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama?

CAN REDUCE GAS AND ENERGY PRICES
    McCain 40% (31%)
    Obama 37% (50%)

Who better represents this quality: Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama?
    WILL KEEP AMERICA PROSPEROUS
    McCain 43% (41%)
    Obama 43% (47%)

Who better represents this quality: Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama?
DEALING WITH THE WAR IN IRAQ
    McCain 54% (55%)
    Obama 41% (38%)

Who better represents this quality: Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama?
    HANDLING HEALTH CARE ISSUES
    Obama 54% (61%)
    McCain 35% (24%)

In thinking about the economy, how would you rate your personal economic situation?

    Excellent/Good 51%
    Just Fair 36%
    Poor 13%

Now, thinking about the issue of energy and finding new sources of domestic energy. I would like to read you a list of proposals regarding finding new domestic sources for energy. Please listen carefully as I read each statement and tell me if you would favor or oppose each of these proposals.

Drilling for oil and natural gas in ANWR
    Favor 58%
    Oppose 39%

John, you’ve got the necessary political cover to flip on this NOW, and leave Obama and the Dems in the dust.

  13. Kristofer Says:

Aron/Kavon, Call this gentleman. He will tell you when the National Conference call on energy is with Sarah Palin the McCain campaign.

If he gives you the date, you will know when McCain is going to flip on ANWR.

  14. Clarence Claus Says:

They also by a narrow margin thought McCain, not Obama, would be better for gas prices.

  15. The Mitt Blog » Blog Archive » Time for Obama to Be Very Afraid Says:

  16. jim Says:

    ANWR at 60%!

That means support is much higher in states that McCain will need to win like OH, MO, VA, CO, etc…

For those who dont think Obama wont flip on ANWR, you’re nuts. There is NOTHING Obama will not flip on. Nothing.

If Axelrod and Plouffe tell him he needs to become pro life and promise to take out Iran’s nukes with a first strike if need be, he will.
