From The Corner over at NRO, this little tidbit of information:
McCain aides whose judgment I trust are impressed by Sarah Palin. One was particularly amused by this exchange: A nervous young McCain staffer took it upon himself to explain to Palin the facts of life in a national campaign, the intense scrutiny she’d be under from the media, the viciousness of the assault that she’d be facing, etc.:
Palin: “Thanks for the warning. By the way, do you know what they say the difference is between a hockey mom and a Pit Bull?”
McCain aide: “No, Governor.”
Palin: “A hockey mom wears lipstick.”
Nice.

gotta love this from Sarah !!! watch out Joe Biden.

The expectations for Palin are ridiculously low. She’s going to exceed them by far and be a surprising success. She’s not enough to win it for McCain alone, but this is the most excited that the base has been since Reagan.

good one..

Gallup is out- Obama hits 50% today (50-42)
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Of course he has, look at the coverage from the MSM. It’s non-stop attacks.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I completely agree with EricB. Give the woman a chance. McCain is not stupid, and neither is Sarah Palin. I can’t wait for the VP debates.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
His bounce is less than 10! That is good news.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Yup. Non-stop attacks. And after the convention it’ll be even again. And then, as people get to know what McCain and Palin stand for, the tide will turn.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Just as I’m sick of hearing “Change” from Obama, I have a feeling that I’ll soon be sick of hearing “Hockey Mom” from Palin.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Love the response. Lipstick
I think we all are in for a new education and she is the new teacher to do it. Palin is like a breath of fresh air that has sorely been needed in the GOP for a long time. So calm you back seat nervous nellies and enjoy the ride.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Thousands of hours of glowing, uncritical media in favor of Obama and a feeding frenzi surrounding McCain-Palin and this is the best Obama can do?
The man is weak.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Did you know that Obama pushed for millions in earmarks for a lobbyist who happened to be Biden’s son? Strange, don’t you think?
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
” calm DOWN”- left that out
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:43 pm
The wall-to-wall coverage of Palin is going to spin itself out soon. The McCain people released this stuff about her daughter right now because they know it’ll have less effect now than in October. By then, it’ll be old news and no one will care. Even the media will be bored with it by this weekend. It’s going to backfire on them. It’s all just building anticipation for her speech tomorrow night.
As for the polls, the internals show that Obama is up because of increased support among Democrats. It’s the Hillary voters moving towards Obama, and that has to do with the Democratic Convention comparing McCain to Bush. Their opinions of Palin are still favorable. It’s the McCain-Bush connection that is turning away voters.

Yeah, let’s recap what we’ve come to know in the last three days:
She preaches abstinence only, but now has an unmarried, underage pregnant daughter. Further, she chose to drag her daughter into the public eye. Already being asked by mothers everywhere, how does she NOT be there for her daughter during this difficult time (or her 4-month old baby, for that matter)?
She is on tape asking what a VP does? Has suggested the war in Iraq might have been for oil.
Says since Alaska is near Russia, that constitutes foriegn policy experience?
Is under investigation for abuse of power in Troopergate. Has now hired a team of lawyers.
Risked the life of her special needs unborn child by flying eight hours after leaking amniotic fluid?
Was a member of a fringe Alaska political party to create an independant Alaska.
Was nearly recalled from her time as Mayor, and during that time ran up a huge budget deficit.
Was for the bridge to nowhere before being against it, but kept the money.
McCain didn’t know her, and only had one short meeting before picking her.
I know I’m missing a few more points here, but you get the idea. Some of this is and should be a personal matter, good only for tabloid papers. But it’s just the kind of juicy, gossipy story to have very long legs. The media’s already salivating. Now, no VP is ever going to come without some small issue, but isn’t this obvious yet how bad a pick she is, or how poorly she was vetted?
Palin’s it. We’re stuck with her, but she’s going to destroy the ticket.

“The McCain people released this stuff about her daughter right now because they know it’ll have less effect now than in October.”
They also released it to coincide with Gustav, I’m guessing.

Hilarious!

And Labor day.

#15 AI “We’re stuck with her, but she’s going to destroy the ticket.”
No, but people like you are doing their best job to do that.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Sticking your head in the sand won’t help the reality of this pick. I fully agree with Alex on his article, except that to pull her back would be disastrous. We’re screwed either way.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Here’s something the left understands, that we haven’t lately; you almost never lose when you defend your candidates unceasingly and unthinkingly. Palin isn’t going to be dropped. It’s sheer fantasy to think she will be. The folks “complaining” about her right now are in roughly the same position as the Hillary supporters protesting Obama in May. Nothing they could conceivably do could bring about their preffered result (in Alex’s case dumping Palin, in the case of Hillary supporters, dumping Obama). So they ought to pursue the next best option. If you have a hint of conservatism, the next best option is defending Palin without question, repeatedly, and to anyone who will listen.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Palin isn’t hurting the party. I would argue that all she’s doing is firing up the base of the GOP. The Democrats and the media hate it, and that’s why we’re getting these “scandals” that are really non-issues. If you want some real scandals, take a gander at the Dem ticket. We’ve got the racist, sexist comments from Biden and Obama with his un-American, terrorist, and other sketchy connections.
The election is going to come down to who do independents like more, like every other election is decided. McCain needs to be reaching out to independents from here on out. The Palin pick signals to the base that he’s with them. Now it’s all about independents and picking off as many Democrats as possible. Ignore the tabloid hysterics. They won’t matter.

So we have SoCons, FiCons, and MilCons … may I suggest another category for nervous nellies - NellyCons? This is to be distinguished from FauxCons, people who pretend to be conservatives on blogs to sow dissent amongst their opponents? Sometimes the former is hard to distinguish from the latter on the internet …
