A little appetizer for all our Rombots:
This evening former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will address the 2008 Republican National Convention. Governor Romney will expand on the convention’s overall theme, “Country First,” and the theme for today’s program, which is “reform,” as he discusses John McCain’s ability to repair Washington’s partisan environment and restrain the unchecked growth of the federal government.
Excerpts from the governor’s remarks, as prepared for delivery, are below.
On the need to change the culture of government in Washington:
“We need change all right - change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington - throw out the big government liberals and elect John McCain.”
On why John McCain is best qualified to be our next president:
“The right course is the one championed by Ronald Reagan 30 years ago, and by John McCain today. It is to rein in government spending and lower taxes, for taking a weed-whacker to excessive regulation and mandates, for putting a stop to tort windfalls, and to stand up to the Tyrannosaurus appetite of government unions.
“And at Saddleback, after Barack Obama dodged and ducked every direct question, John McCain hit the nail on the head: radical Islam is evil, and he will defeat it! Republicans prefer straight talk to politically correct talk!”
On the dangers of big government:
“Liberals would replace opportunity with dependency on government largesse. They would grow government and raise taxes to put more people on Medicaid, to work requirements out of welfare, and to grow the ranks of those who pay no taxes at all. Dependency is death to initiative, risk-taking and opportunity. It’s time to stop the spread of government dependency to fight it like the poison it is! It’s time for the party of big ideas, not the party of Big Brother!”
On why the McCain-Palin ticket is the right choice for the future of America:
“Just like you, there has never been a day when I was not proud to be an American. We inherited the greatest nation in the history of the earth. It is our burden and privilege to preserve it, to renew its spirit so that its noble past is prologue to its glorious future. To this we are all dedicated and I firmly believe by the providence of the Almighty, that we will succeed. President McCain and Vice President Palin will keep America as it has always been - the hope of the world.”

As a huge Romney supporter, I love the post, but is there anyway to keep the open thread on top of the other posts so that we get a little more action from it?
If not keep these kinds of posts coming because those who want to comment on the convention will find there way down to the thread anyway.

I just realized that after I posted it. I didn’t know the open forum was already up, or I would. I think only Kavon has the priviledges to move them around.

I just hope the delegates give him the welcome he has earned. As the strongest three legged stool conservative, the most intelligent man in a hundred years, the most qualified in a long time, the most ethical man of the lot, and the hardest worker John McCain could ever have dreamed of, he deserves to be welcomed like a true American hero which he is. God bless this great man that he may yet be given his opportunity to give back to America according to his God given talents and in accordance with his life long dedication to hard work.

Kennedy’s open seat?

“Governor Romney will expand on the convention’s overall theme, “Country First,””
That’s surprising because Romney will likely fail at making that point. Romney is in politics for Romney First, certainly not his country first. If he were a “Country First” guy he would have served his country rather than running off the France for a Mormon Missionary escapade (remember even John Kerry fought and was willing die for his country) and Romney wouldn’t have equated campaign work for one’s father to military service.
Disgraceful.

Since when is it not a great thing to do to serve a mission for God Almighty? I thought it was too bad that Mitt couldn’t just say that his sons didn’t serve in the military because they served a cause just as worthy, that of our Heavenly Father and building up the kingdom on earth. But, that wouldn’t have been the politically correct thing to say, just as it will not be welcomed on here. You’re the one who is disgraceful CG. Mitt Romney is a great man, and I only pray that he will one day be allowed to give to his country those talents he so vigorously cultivated and that our Father in Heaven blessed him with.

“the most intelligent man in a hundred years,”
And the Rombots wonder why everybody laughs at them. Really, the guy’s OK, but … geez.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
BobH- with all due respect, it is only one Rombot who says that. Please don’t lump all of them together.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
5 Mitt said that was one of his greatest regrets.

COLORADO GUY -
YOU SOUND ALOT LIKE OBAMA’S PASTER. WHAT AN IDIOT

“I’m talking about who has run for President…”
So you’re backing off your original comment? Good — that’s wise. And I note that you have now amended your earlier sycophantic comment that he’s the smartest person EVER to run for the presidency (it was embarrassing when I brought up Thomas Jefferson, wasn’t it?). These are good signs that you are edging toward sanity (do you still think America is unworthy of Him, though?)
“Name one…whose academic credentials are equal….”
So now it’s academic credentials rather than actual intelligence? In that case, the answer is Woodrow Wilson. Originally an attorney, he returned to college (Johns Hopkins) and received a PhD in history and political science, served as president of the American Political Science Association, wrote several important texts on government, and was president of Princeton when he entered politics.

colorado guy,
I’m from WY and do yourself a favor and stop bashing the mormon factor. Out in the West we live together - liberal and conservative - in such a nice way…”keep on your ranch, and I’ll keep on mine. We’ll still talk over coffee and a donut at the local gas station. No hard feelings.” You don’t have to agree with his choice… but don’t bash, it makes you seem ignorant and the fact that you are actively blogging about politics shows you’re intelligent.
