Some where in the comments section today, someone (I can’t remember who) mentioned that Dems were kicking around the idea of painting he McCain/Palin ticket as the mccain/PALIN ticket, hoping to brand the idea in peoples mind that McCain is the weaker of the two on the ticket.
Well alas, John Martin of Politico is quick to catch on…
I am not a real big fan of the Politico’s methods in general. From Roger Simon on Fred Thompson, to Martin’s initial interview of James Bopp in the beginning of the primary season. I guess we can now see were the attack lines are heading.

I really hope the Dems use this method of attack because it will backfire big-time. How on earth can they expect to hurt McCain’s chances by conceding that his VP is popular, regardless of how he compares to her.
If the subject of the election is who is more popular, McCain or Palin then we win either way. For Obama to win the discussion needs to be about him because he needs to prove himself to America. America already knows McCain well enough and he has a long enough record that he can win if the conversation is about Obama, assuming he fails the leadership test. The same cannot be said about Obama. Right now people don’t know enough about Obama for him to win as the default.

the last thing dems want is for palin to get exposure.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I can see the slogan:
“Vote McCain and You Get Palin!”
September 5th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I fail to see how this line will have an effect. I can’t imagine undecideds saying, “Well John McCain is cool enough but Sarah Palin really excites me. And because I like her more, I’ve got to vote for Obama.”
September 5th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Cute. The “Trojan Horse” ploy.
The obvious counter-point is that people are turning out for Obama but overlooking his ultimate hard-left partisan Congressional overlords: San Fran Nan Pelosi and Harry Reid!

It’s been interesting watching this evolve. Obama was mocked for his “change” message and for not having experience. When McCain saw his campaign was a loser, he switched his message to “change” and abandoned “experience.”
Obama was mocked for just being an empty suit who gives a good speech and for the cheering crowds that greeted him. Oh, how far you’ve come in just a week. Is Palin a “pitdog” or is she a “victim” who not only isn’t ready to be VP, but apparently isn’t even ready to be VP candidate so is holed up learning what her positions are.
Clowns.

Sometimes a headline is just a headline. And not a conspiracy.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Hey, I’m voting for Palin this November. If that benefits McCain, then he’s welcome.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
haha the MSM is so predictable, this is not going to work at all
September 5th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
obama/biden/CULTURAL MARXISTS ‘08
September 5th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Whether its MCCAIN-palin or mccain-PALIN, the leftists lose. That would be the democrats.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Eve, who stopped mocking O’s “change message”? What the heck does Barry mean by change? As said at the convention, change isn’t a goal in itself. If all he means is “change away from Bush” — guess what: A vote for McCain is also a change away from that, possible even more so, considering that Bush is now running the country under the legislative guidance of a Democratic Congress!
September 5th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
MWS,
I’m sure your aren’t alone in your sentiment regarding Palin and McCain.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
If the media want to try this strategy, I wish them all the luck in the world.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Would you disagree that Palin is the bigger draw, especially for conservatives? Honestly?
September 5th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
I wouldn’t disagree at all. I think the convention proved her to be a bigger star within the party at this moment.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Jason. This is not an attack line or line of attack. This is a great headline that benefits the ticket by reporting the interest that it generates.
I remember a reporter asking a McCain spokesperson before McCain’s speech how McCain could ever top Palin. HIs answer: He’s not going to try. Why should he? Sen. McCain is perfectly comfortable in the company of strong women.
We have one goal: to win in November. If everyone who votes for our ticket only votes because of Palin, we still win.
September 6th, 2008 at 12:00 am
I don’t think this headline is part of a movement to eclipse McCain by building up Palin. I’d love to believe that the Dems and MSM are that dumb, but they’re not (though sometimes their stupidity surprises me).
September 6th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Come Nov 4 I think we should be hoping (praying) that voters are looking solely at the top of the tickets when casting their votes.
September 6th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Yes this line of ‘attack’ will backfire again, bring it on…
But let it be known, ‘The Politico’ is the MSM, full stop. Just because it’s online doesn’t mean it can’t be MSM and thus generally in the tank for Obama. It is.

#6 - Eve, Obama CHANGES his mind on issues constantly, and HOPES you don’t notice. (Latest switch - the Surge “successful beyond our wildest dreams/imagination - but still would be against it.”
Eve, Obama wants to use Washington and the power of the presidency to change America into a Socialist State.
McCain/Palin want to change Washington to keep America free, great and strong!!
Now who is the clown?
September 6th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
P.S. Eve, Obama talks about hope and change and what he will do in the future, based on a record of zero accomplishments.
The strength of McCain and Palin is that they want to reform Washington for America, based on a strong track record of successful accomplishments.
Please tell me, right here, what Obama has done in the past to make a positive difference for the lives of people he has represented in Illinois. Here’s an example of what Obama left behind in the slums of Chicago:

Please tell me, Eve, right here, what his qualifications are for the position of POTUS.
Please tell me, Eve, right here, what Obama has done to confront the well-known corruption in the the Daley Machine/Chicago Politics.
Please tell me, Eve, what reform Obama has brought about in the past.
Words, just words — that’s all Obama has to show for his hope and change mantra.
September 6th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
They have nothing and it’s funny to see Arianna “I didn’t know my man was Gay” Huffington and Sally “Ted Kennedy is my Idol” Quinn retreating!!!
Now the qualified one is Palin and Mac is infecting her with the theology of Bush-Cheney, LOL…the MSM, Nut Roots and the Taliban Obama campaign have nothing!
More and more, this election is turning; did anyone see the crowds in Wisconsin, Colorado, etc…they are going crazy for Sarah!
Teddy Roosevelt, Maggie Thatcher, Annie Oakley and Wonder Woman all rolled up into One.
