I Love McCain As The Underdog, But…

This is the first moment since April 14 that McCain has led Obama in the RCP average of election polls.

46.7% to 45.7%

Mac is back and so is his maverick image.

I have never been more confident that we can pull this off.

Leave everything on the field John and Sarah and you will win on November 4.

More from me soon, I apologize for the hiatus.

its actually the perfect time. its puts obama on defense down the stretch, and energizes the right with plenty of time to boffo the organization

  2. Texas McCainiac (Formerly, Texas Conservative) Says:

What a great day for McCain/bad day for Obama!!

    Mac is back!!!!

  3. sampo Says:

maybe barry will agree to a debate now that he’s getting creamed.

  4. Kristofer Says:

I went on http://www.johnmccain.com then Obama’s web site, and I have to tell you, which ticket actually looks younger and more energetic? My, my, how times have changed. ;)

  5. matt Says:

russell brand trashed palin and her daughter at the mtv VMA awards. hopefully, him and the other celebs will find there way into an attack ad on barry soon!

  6. AC1 Says:

All 10 people watching much be outraged Matt.

  7. Brendan Antoine Says:

McCain and Palin are on the rise to victory!

  8. MetroRepublican Says:

New McCain site is great. No distractions, just a bio-ad, turns into bio-film.

People will just stay and watch. Brilliant web marketing.

  9. Sean M Says:

Drudge has on his site that the New York Times will be doing a piece on Trig Palin:

    NYT: MEET THE BABY…

PAPER PREPARES TO FRONT DETAILED STORY ON PALIN’S BABY, NEWSROOM SOURCES TELL DRUDGE… DEVELOPING…

    http://drudgereport.com/

  10. Victoria St. Gelais Says:

If the Wilson girls don’t like good Republican money, so be it. They just lost a bundle of it. I don’t know exactly how much the ASCAP fees are, but I know they’re hefty. If the campaign were allowed to use that song at every event, it would run into some serious dough. That’s ok, they probably don’t believe in capitalism anyway.

  11. Jeff Says:

nytimes article amazingly not a hit piece
    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/08/us/politics/08baby.html?hp=&pagewanted=all

  12. rnst_p Says:

The NYT piece not so subtlely trying to fuel the “Trig isn’t Sarah’s baby” rumors. Notice all the details that fit in with the theory. Quite pathetic.

  13. alaska jake Says:

I thought the article was fine - didn’t notice anything wrong. It even shoots down the theme that she had a baby and then left it at home so she can get back to work. It’s common knowledge up here in AK that her daughter Piper hangs out in the state capitol. They had a dog roaming around the building once too, but I think they got rid of it after it took a dump in an office hallway.

  14. Jeremy Says:

That was a nice piece. I don’t see what rnst_p is seeing.

  15. Gary Matthew Miller Says:

#12, I looked for any subtle smear in the piece and was unable to find any. What did I miss?

  16. Cp Says:

Thank goodness, the Drudge headline scared me. Something like this would be too hard to cover up. I think I am paranoid just because I am so excited (and after re-looking at the strange circumstances of the birth posted by the left-wingers). However, I found this below on Downs Syndrome which calms me down. Net, no matter how strange the circumstances of the child’s birth, the statisitics are pretty clear…

    Risk factors
Some parents have a greater risk of having a baby with Down syndrome. Risk factors include:

Advancing maternal age. As a woman’s eggs age, there’s a greater inclination for chromosomes to divide improperly. So a woman’s chances of giving birth to a child with Down syndrome increase with age. By age 35, a woman’s risk of conceiving a child with Down syndrome is 1 in 385. By age 40, the risk is 1 in 106. And by age 45, the risk is 1 in 30.

  17. Kristofer Says:

Cp, A.E. Culvahouse is the best. And everyone in DC knows this. Do you really believe McCain would not properly vet her?

  18. dotan Says:

    Here’s a cool resource, Kristofer:

  19. dotan Says:

We should start a countdown for how long it takes Obama to dump Biden in favor of Sen. Clinton.

  20. Kristofer Says:

dotan, do you know how many years I have spent trying to get this out of my mind? Thanks buddy! ;)

  21. John Mark Says:

19, I don’t think its in Clinton’s personal intererest to help Obama win. That said, maybe she cares more about the party than her personal interest.

  22. dotan Says:

    Yoikes!

  23. dotan Says:

    … Advancing maternal age …

    What are you insinuating?

  24. matt Says:

i’m sure the times piece on malia obama is right around the corner. ‘rolls eyes’

  25. dotan Says:

I’m still waiting for the NYT piece on the annenburg challenge and the close relationship between Ayres and Obama, see:

    http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2008/09/with-a-straight.html

  26. Kristofer Says:

dotan, interesting article on MSNBC and the changes. http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6593698.html

It almost sounds like an internal civil war was going on. I stopped watching the network, but clearly their ratings were hurting.

  27. dotan Says:

I got a tingle up my leg when I heard the news of Olberman and Matthew’s fall from grace, and thank you for the link.

The NBC executives, from what I understand, were “concerned” when the McCain campaign flatly refused their NBC or MSNBC anchors any access whatsoever. They had to content themselves interviewing low level surrogates reciting GOP talking points or with using their in-house talent to represent the GOP POV, e.g. Patty-Patty Buke-Buke.

They also had to endure months of complaints from Sen. Clinton’s campaign prior to her departure from the scene.

  28. dotan Says:

    From the NYT:

[...] When the vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lamented media bias during her speech, attendees of the Republican convention loudly chanted “NBC” [...]

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/08/business/media/08msnbc.html?_r=2&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

  29. dotan Says:

On reflection, however, would we be doing as well as we are if our opponents weren’t so stupid?—i.e. Obama’s almost sublime arrogance and aloofness and the MSM’s shameless non-objectivity and the blacklash it has produced?

We’re performing as well as we are because of Sen. McCain’s leadership and because of Sen. McCain’s pure dumb luck. Well, so be it. I’ll take it.

  30. jim Says:

A really great article in NY Mag that Kavon or whoever might want to front page. All about the conventions and the VPs and the state of play.

    Some great quotes

From Howard Wolfson, Hillary bigwig(and I imagine his words are straight from Billary’s mouth):

Maybe this is all premature and pointless Democratic hand-wringing—an occurrence about as unusual as the sun rising in the east. But it’s nothing compared to the fear and trembling that might soon be coming to a liberal household near you. “I’ll tell you one thing,” Wolfson says. “If McCain comes out of his convention ahead in the polls, an awful lot of Democrats are going to be running for the windows.”

    and

On the morning after her speech, in fact, former Bush aide and Schmidt ally Nicole Wallace, appearing on Morning Joe with Time’s Jay Carney, provided a vivid preview of how the McCain side is likely to turn denying access to Palin into a pseudo-populist cause:

CARNEY: “We don’t know yet, and we won’t know until you guys allow her to take questions, can she answer tough questions about domestic policy, foreign policy?…?”

WALLACE: “But I mean, like, from who? From you?”

    CARNEY: “Yeah, from me.”

    WALLACE: “Who cares? No offense.”

CARNEY: “Who cares? I think the American people care.”

WALLACE: “The American people want to see her. Who cares if she can talk to Time magazine? She can talk to the American people.”

    What a great answer!

    and:

Most Democrats concurred that by picking Palin, McCain was forfeiting the experience argument. But one of the party’s sharpest strategists disagreed. “The construct is this: Would you rather have a vice-president with limited experience or a president with comparably limited experience, possibly less, depending on how you define experience?” this person e-mailed to me. “The irony is that Obama made this both possible and plausible. Given this, McCain can and should continue to argue ‘ready to lead’—and I daresay he will with effectiveness. And I think the Obama team is making a mistake if they press this issue, because then the race becomes about experience, which is exactly what McCain wants.”

I bet that’s another Clinton person

  31. Joel Says:

For those of you apprehensive about Palin’s ability to answer questions, watch this C-SPAN interview from February. She is super smart and has a great command of facts.

  32. Rich(UK) Says:

    5. Can you keep Russell Brand?

    We don’t want him.

  33. alaska jake Says:

    30. . . “Who cares? No offense.” Greatest interview response ever.

  34. Laurent Fourier Says:

Intrade update —- McCain 48, Obama 52…. Highest ever for McCain….I suspect he’ll break 50 this week…Place your bets!

  35. Joel Says:

re NYT interview - great pimping of the family. Need to keep control like this: exploit when advantageous, cry “foul” whenever it makes her looks bad.

  36. Joel Says:

Fournier - posting intrade results is futile. 4 minutes later your post is already wrong: 54.4 Obama and 44.8 McCain. And those numbers will probably be outdated as soon as I post this.

  37. Adam Zuckerman Says:

I disagree about intrade. Of course they move around, especially on a day like today where people are absorbing the numbers. Have you ever watched the stock market or currencies? The point is that McCain is hitting new highs/Obama new lows, not that there is intraday volatility.

Also I know that people think intrade is pointless because it didn’t ‘predict’ Sarah Palin. But that’s not the point. Besides the fact that the VP numbers are unreliable bc of the low volume, the point of intrade is that it reflects the conventional wisdom at the moment. And the conventional wisdom is heading towards 50/50 McCain Obama, from 40/60 not so long ago.

  38. Laurent Fourier Says:

Yeah, I would say if you see McCain under 44, buy it! Who doesn’t think it’s a good bet….44 gets you 50 in a few days if you are a short term trader…if you are a true believer like me, 44 gets you 100 on November 4. Nice return, over 100%. Where else are you going to get that nowadays?

  39. Joel Says:

#37 Intrade was worthless on Palin because that’s just a few people (Dobson & Rove) picking a VP candidate rather than collective speculation on how millions of people will vote. I think the Iowa Prediction Market and Intrade are good measures. Now it’s O 51.6 McC 47.3 - see you could’ve already made a little scratch if you were gutsy enough.

  40. MetroRepublican Says:

    JMac now 50 at Intrade!

  41. OHIO JOE Says:

You are right Joel, it is about time we had an intrade update now that the news is good.

  42. OHIO JOE Says:

Thanks for the great news Metro, let’s hope it maintains and grows.

The Candidates
