Here is Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) from the floor of the House:
Rep. Cohen is not the lone Democrat making this comparison either. Here is Democratic strategist and former Gore 2000 campaign manager Donna Brazile:
Donna Brazile: The Bible says to whom much is given much is required and it comes out of that tradition. So it was insulting to see both, you know, the governor as well as Mayor Giuliani criticize people. There’s some on the Internet now that Jesus was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate was a governor. And perhaps they should understand the role of a community organizer, do help people in distress.
It is likely a combination of this unwelcome help from their fellow Democrats, as well as tanking poll numbers that have the Democractic operatives in “(Near) Panic.”

‘Jumping the shark’ understates this campaign.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
This is even worse than the lipstick-on-a-pig comment.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
…and I smell another McCain ad coming!!!!!!
September 10th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Wow! The ship is sinking!
September 10th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Wow, what a frigin’ gift. Who will be the first operative to DEMAND a apology from team Obama?
September 10th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Yes, this guy is nuts!!!
September 10th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Wow. They really DO think that Obama is the Messiah!
September 10th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Couric and company complains, and Youtube pulls the lipstick ad!
September 10th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
First to demand an apology? James Dobson.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Isn’t Cohen the guy who was all but accused of being a KKK member in his primary this year? Geez, the Democrats are nuts.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
This is an absolute waste of my tax dollars. This idiot and the rest of the house really feel the need to spend my money talking about Obama and Jesus. Why don’t they spend their time debating an energy bill.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Didn’t Pelosi, at some point, say Obama was sent from God?
September 10th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
You guys hadn’t heard this before? My UPS driver (who happens to be black) and I razz each other on politics all the time. The day after Palin’s speech he had this comeback ready.
Now, in the case of Jesus and Obama, there is an important distinction. Jesus was the Master of the Universe BEFORE he took a demotion to “community organizer.” Obama has it backwards.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I can’t wait to see the look on these rubes faces when Obama loses in November.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Jesus was a community organizer? I like to think of Jesus as wearin’ a Tuxedo T-shirt, ’cause it says, like, “I want to be formal, but I’m here to party too.” I like to party, so I like my Jesus to party.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Getting Couric to demand they pull the ad was probably the very intent of the ad in the first place. Brilliant.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
For Christian’s, was Jesus not the savior? Community organizer is a wierd comparison?
September 10th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
To make this even more weird, Cohen is Jewish.
September 10th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Marksal, yes, now that makes this VERY wired!
A Jewish Congressman, calling A Christian Governor, Pontius Pilate? LOL!
September 10th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
weird*

This just gets more and more sad all the time. First at the convention, “the hope we profess” was taken so completely out of context, then you have a “pig with lipstick” and now this. Dems just need to keep their mouths shut, and I am actually beginning to think this could turn into a blowout. I still don’t think so, but it will if this continues.
September 10th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
[...] Obama surrogates gone wild. [...]
September 10th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
The demographics of the voting public virtually guarantee that it won’t be a blowout for McCain/Palin. Remember, they start out 10 points behind because of the African African vote. I think the best we can hope for is 55% to 45%.

I’ve been crunching some numbers here. Very few of the state or national polls are probably accurately sampling the electorate. Using the exit polls from the 2004, I can adjust many of these state polls weighting them according to the 2004 exit polls for the party IDs. I’ve done this for the recent Survey USA and PPP polls since they release the internals of their polls. What I get is this:
PPP:
Michigan: Reported to be Obama +1, Adjusted to McCain +1
Florida: Reported to be McCain +5, Adjusted to McCain +6
North Carolina: Reported to be McCain +4, Adjusted to McCain +12
Survey USA:
North Carolina: Reported to be McCain +20, Adjusted to McCain +19
Oklahoma: Reported to be McCain +33, Adjusted to McCain +33
Virginia: Reported to be McCain +2, Adjusted to McCain +7
Washington: Reported to be Obama +4, Adjusted to Obama +2
These adjustments are only correct if the electorate is the exact same composition as 4 years ago. It may be, and it may not be. It’s hard to say.

I’m glad you broke down your title the way you did. I’ve been reading all these blogs about this and I have yet to read a full post because I didn’t know what they were talking. You and another friend’s blog made it clear:
Barack Obama=Jesus Christ, Sarah Palin=Pontius Pilate
September 10th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Kavon, Gary — Dangit! I was going to post something on this this afternoon but you beat me to it. And I was even going to ask if it qualified as the O!bama campaign officially jumping the shark.
Guess great minds think alike!
September 10th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
So a “Democratic strategist and former Gore 2000 campaign manager” and a Democratic congressman saying stupid things means the whole party is pancking? C’mon guys, this kind of post makes you look as dumb as the two aforementioned Dems…

How can you compare Obama to Jesus. He was a Nazarite, a dispised small place. Where does the Bible say Jesus was living. Where does it say He made negative remarks. Where does it say he was for abortion, He said, Suffer the little children to come to me” Did he say, but not those born with special needs, or those from unwed moms. No. His law said, “Do not kill”.
What about, bearing false witness, for those who don’t know what that is, its slander. How can we honestly say Obama is like Jesus.
My prayer for those who are calling him “Jesus”, is “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Obama, if a Christian should be very offended. Has he ever heard of the anti-christ.
Give me someone for leader who is a true christian.
A true christian in my Bible is a sinner-saved, not a saint in there own eyes for they have no need of Christ.
This Country needs a revival and a turning to God. It starts as my own need. We seem to belittle the power of God.
God bless and save you all. McCainites and Palinites alike

This country was started on religion. thats why so many came over here because they were persecuted in their own countries, Sorta like the christians in the US now. If this country is not run based on the Word of God what can we expect??? The only reason this country still exists is because our LORD still has a remnant here. The best thing for this country is that we return lo those same principles of George Washingtons and other godly men after him. Could it be is will Governor Palin is on the ticket. Think about it. Let us not be guilty like Saul and his men in Ps 59 where David calls his oppossers “belching and barking dogs”. Sound familiar. I pray that whoever reads this will read Psalm 59 and take it to heart. It could make a big difference in this country.
Let us not be guilty of “barking” and “belching”
